We got our drinks in minutes, and shortly after we had our appetizer. The menu was extensive, but easy to read and understand. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious, freshly prepared, and very generous portions. We have found our favorite Mexican restaurant, and won't go anywhere else in the area. Our visit last night to El Jimador was most excellent! My husband, daughter, and I stopped on our way back home from the airport and we are so glad we did! Our cocktails were very reasonably priced and refreshing (my daughter and I both had the margarita flight) and my husband had his favorite tequila neat. Our meals were exceptional! Plenty of food to fill us, and delicious! We all enjoyed everything so much, we did more eating than talking! Rare for our family! Ha! Kudos to our bartender server, and the chefs! We will be back! The waiter forgot to put our order in. He came to the table after 45 minutes of waiting and told us this. I ordered a Sam Adams draft and was charged for a house margarita. Well this was an odd experience... I came here for my cousin's birthday as we were staying at an airbnb near by. There was a group of 9 of us. I ordered the taquitos. Everything was dry and bland; rice, chicken, beef, everything. They forgot about my husband's order. They offered to bring him "something else that was ready" instead which leads me to believe they gave him someone's else meal. I'm giving 3 stars because everyone else at our table seemed to enjoy their meals and licked their plates clean. I think this is the first time I've been back here this year. As with before, the drinks are phenomenal. The bartender is amazing and knows his tequilas and his margaritas like a professional. The chips and salsa are great, which is something I rate all Mexican restaurants on. The food is fantastic and not overpriced like many places in the lake region. Within three minutes, not an exaggeration, we were seated, had salsa and chips, water and our drinks!! No kidding, no fooling! Thank you Junior!! You are an amazing server and we appreciate how much you care about your diners! The salsa and chips are excellent but please try not to fill up on them. Here's why: when you order the El Molcajete, you will have enough food for three people and it is by far the best dish we've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. It has grilled steak, chicken, shrimp and Mexican sausage that comes to your table in a sizzling black cauldron of cheesy, perfectly seasoned goodness with onions and cactus. The roasted peppers are hot so use sparingly if at all since they are whole and can be pulled aside. It comes with at least six flour tortillas, rice, beans, lettuce and sour cream. All for $30!!! Pair that with a Dos Equis or the house margarita and you are in for a very enjoyable event. El Jimador, we will be back! read more

Good Mexican food. I started with the chicken tortilla soup. It was homemade with large chunks of chicken, thick slices of yellow and green zucchini, a dash of cheese, and a tasty (not spicy) broth. Loved it. My entree was a "veggie combo," including a black bean burrito and mushroom and spinach quesadillas. The mushroom came with cheese and was my favorite of the three (fresh and chunky pieces), the black bean was okay and the spinach was ruined with some herb. I cleaned my plate. One of the locals who brought us here complained that this was the second time they got his order wrong (this time his dish didn't come with the shrimp he ordered), but he will still be returning because their food is very good. read more

The chips were served warm and the salsa in a small carafe that has about 3-4 servings in it. The salsa needs a bit more cilantro, onion, garlic, and jalapeño, but that's coming from someone growing up in the southwest. For east coast/New England Mexican salsa, this is wasn't too bad. The service was incredible and so fast. We were quickly served margaritas and water and our server, Zoe, was very attentive and checked back on us regularly. The margaritas are a great value ($6 before 5 pm) and strong. Best value in the region for sure. The portions are quite large, enough that we both had leftovers for 2 more meals. The best part is that there weren't a lot of fillers (rice and beans), but a healthy portion of high quality seafood, meat, and vegetables. The rice doesn't have the most flavor, but it was nothing that couldn't be doctored up with a bit of salsa and a squeeze of lime. Speaking of lime, I asked for a side of lime and was delighted to receive a full lime. The churro was very authentic and Zoe was kind enough to give us the caramel on the side. My only issue with this place is the number of bees/flies in the window, but they didn't interfere in the meal. Everyone should definitely come check this place out! read more

Holy extensive menu, Batman! What impressed me most was the extensive vegetarian menu. And the seafood options! There were just so many items to choose from. Our server had a great attitude and did a great job balancing how busy they were. The complimentary salsa had good flavor. The chicken soup, ordered and consumed by my husband, had a wonderful aroma when it was delivered. And the size of it was huge! I had the spinach enchiladas, and I loved the queso drizzle over the top. The Mexican rice was also delicious. My husband had the birria tacos, that came with a dipping sauce, and he was over the moon with how good it was. The only complaints were about the immovable table that was not centered for the bench seating (my side was scrunched up and his side had plenty of room) and the worn out look of the carpet, tables, and seating. We go out to eat every week for a family date. This week we went to El Jimador after not going there for a few months. We tried new foods that we weren't sure what they were or how to pronounce. Our server, Beto, was amazing. He helped us without any hesitation. Beto is a true professional; he worked the room, providing the best experience for each guest. While this will never top the Vineyard (iykyk), this is a great spot for authentic Mexican food in this area that has no shortage of mid American options. The huge interior is cozy with water features, a fireplace, and a good sized bar. I ordered one of the fruity drinks on the menu which wasn't very strong sadly and slightly too sweet for my liking. For dinner, I got the taco salad (great deal at $9) with veggies as the protein, and subbed out the cheese and sour cream making this actually a somewhat healthy dish. Everything was delicious! The taco shell really added flair and there were plenty of veggies and refried beans. I even had a decent sized leftover portion. Chose it based on yelp reviews and were not disappointed from the moment we walked into the very nicely decorated restaurant with soft Spanish music playing. Very helpful staff who made changes to our meals so they could be vegetarian. Very authentic and fresh food down to the hot salsa. Extremely reasonable prices and generous portions. I ordered a chimichanga and my husband had the quesadillas. Lunch menu not more than 8 to 9 dollars per person.
