This review is for the NIXA El Lago. I have written great reviews for the Branson West restaurant in the past. This review is very similar. The speed of service is crazy good. The waiters are super responsive. The food is great. The very thin chips for appetizers are amazing. The salsa is free and they bring it as often as you need. We went here because it has a 4 1/2 star rating which usually means it's pretty good. We were kind of disappointed. It was so so Mexican. The guacamole was way too salty and the beans were completely bland. My SIL had the taco salad, she said it had big chunks of bellpeppers in it. We were on our way back to Branson from Springfield on the back roads and I asked Siri for Mexican restaurants near me. The suggestion was El Lago and it was on our way home. We were very impressed with the service and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Service was quick and friendly and the food was amazing. I've eaten Mexican food all over the U.S. and would rank this in the top 5 Mexican restaurants I have ever eaten at. I had the Nacho Fajitas and my daughter had the Alhambra. Excellent food and plenty for a second meal the next day. My husband (who was not with us for the trip) went over after we got home and ordered his own Alhambre! Lots of certificates on the wall for Best in Branson and we'll deserved. We will be back! read more

Oy me! My steak fajita was exceptional! The second we sat down they had chips and salsa on the table. It wasn't a minute later it seemed they had our order out! My top shelf margarita was wowzer strong! Usually restaurants water down the drinks so I've gotten used to that. There were several young men waiting on tables tonight and they constantly came around to check on us. If you're vacationing at the lake you owe it to yourself to come over to Branson West and experience this restaurant if you love Mexican food. There's a full bar as well. You should for sure get a margarita too because they're making them the way you'd make it at home! read more

Me and my boyfriend were visiting Branson and unfortunately this is the first place we ate. The service was horrible, we felt extremely rushed, absolutely NO care for their customers. The servers just dropped our stuff at the table, no communication or checking in. Luckily we were not there long enough to need a refill, because that wouldn't have happened. The food was mediocre for what it is made out to be. We were also confused why our bill had an extra $8 on it? It was not tax and nobody clarified what that was. Our server sat us in the very back isolated which was strange, we wanted to sit outside but we were not even asked. The chicken was dry and didn't have everything on it that the menu said it did. This is one of the worst dining experiences i've ever had. SO DO NOT EAT HERE. read more

My sisters and I were visiting a friend in Galena, MO. She generously treated us to a meal at El Lago. My friend and her Dad ordered their usual choice very quickly. However, since my sisters and I had never been here we needed time to look over the menu. The young man who was waiting for us to decide was extremely impolite and impatient. After he brought our drinks he asked if we were ready to order. I said I wasn't really ready to order yet....that I was still trying to decide. He was obviously annoyed at waiting on us as he took his server order pad and was hitting it quickly on his hand. I could NOT believe how rude he was! (It wasn't even crowded in the restaurant and he was impatient!) If my friends hadn't ordered already, I probably would have suggested leaving. I have never experienced such discourtesy when ordering at a restaurant. "Mr. Server, learn some manners!"....or rename your restaurant "El Brusco!" read more

This is our go-to Mexican restaurant in the Branson area. It is usually the best food and value around. Yesterday we went to El Lago for lunch and we're a little disappointed. We love their fajitas, especially when they are the Thursday lunch special. Yesterday, the sizzling portion of steak, onions and peppers was half the usual amount in our fajita order. My search is over, I've been looking for good Mexican food in this area, tried quite a few so far! My hubby likes chili rellanos and he liked them. I love cheese on Mexican food and they gave me plenty for my tacos. Now the guacamole was loose and not thick it was just okay. We both loved the chips and salsa, I like the thin crispy kind and not to hot salsa. Hubby likes the thin refried beans and he got them! The service was good, asked a couple times if we needed anything. The cheese sauce I got on enchiladas was tasty, opted out of red sauce because was not sure if it was hot, but will try next time. This was a total surprise! We picked it from seeing their billboard and very nondescript outside, but when we entered it is a very large and attractive restaurant. Extensive menu and the food was outstanding! Try the Enchiladas Mar if you love seafood! So delicious! And the chorizo tacos were excellent! Chips are very thin and crispy. New to Branson West and came across reviews for El Lago Mexican Restaurant. We came away impressed with the service, delicious food and turnaround time from submitting our order to the hot food arriving at our table. The prices are good for beer and wine with daily specials. We had 1/2 order enchiladas and it was filling and 2 steak tacos with 1 chicken taco. The chips and salsa are delicious and not too spicy, but plenty of options for adding your own hot sauce at the table. Well, let me just say this is the best Mexican place in all of southwest Missouri. Very friendly staff, very quick service. These guys were practically bouncing off the walls! Chips and salsa were spot on, queso was perfect and margaritas were so good we decided to have one more after our meal. My wife and I have decided to make the drive every other week to come here. Really good salsa! My husband and I split the fajita quesadilla for lunch and it was the perfect amount and tasted great.

VERY quick staff and delicious food even when swamped. I have never seen harder workers at a restaurant.
