Nice Staff, Good Food, older building so its not that fancy and the parking sucks! But whats important is the food! My favorite is the Parillada. It has steak, chicken, shrimp and chorizo (Mexican sausage) it says it feeds 2, but 3 of us ate easily with left overs. read more

A LOT of food for a very reasonable price. I had a chalupa, enchilada, tamale, taco, chile relleno, beans, and rice, chips, and salsa, for $10.99! So much food, it came on 3 plates!! Had to take the taco with me, as I was more stuffed than a burrito grande. Food was good, hot, and served quickly by a friendly waiter. Standard salsa was pretty boring, but if you order the "spicy" salsa, $.99, it lights you right up. For all of the people that are whining about this place being gross or dirty get over yourselves. This place has one of the nicest staffs a restaurant could ever have me and my husband are obsessed with this place and they practically no order before we even sit down. And the prices are outstanding $6 for a full meal at lunch time 7 days a week. I've lived in Gonzales for 20 years and unfortunately I just moved so this restaurant is definitely one of my most missed things and every single time I go back home I stop and eat there. This is one of the best Mexican places I have ate there service is great and food is delicious there steak fajitas and nachos are the best I recommend staying with the chicken steak and shrimp the shredded beef is not the best there queso is amazing and the bill was 50$ to eat for 4 people with a few alcohol beverages along with extras like queso and we left with a full stomach and a happy wallet definitely recommend there waiters are also very friendly but I have noticed a rise In prices on the menu but it wont stop me from eating at this delicious restaurant. read more

Yall, this place needs to be inspected and shut down! We had an OK meal, wasn't fantastic but wasn't bad. We were leaving happy THEN, as we were walking out one of my kids pointed to the decorative chili peppers hanging on the wall and said "what are those bugs?!" We look and I'm not kidding, the chili pepper wall decor was COVERED in German roaches! I'm not talking 1 or 2, I'm talking like 30-40!! Disgusting!! I think we all left a little sick!! read more

If this is what authentic Mexican food tastes like, I will stick to my favorite "faux" Mexican restaurants. I decided to branch out and try something different and after a bad experience here years ago, I was ready to forgive and forget. Well maybe I shouldn't have. The floors and walls looked like they haven't been cleaned since my first visit years ago. But I thought I'd look past all of that and have a great meal, not so much. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and my husband ordered the chile relleno. The quesadilla was like something I've never eaten before. There was more juice on the inside of the tortilla than there was meat or cheese. It was the messiest dish I've had a long time and I've never had a messy quesadilla before this dinner. The chile relleno was edible but nothing to write home about. The chips and salsa are complimentary but even they were not as good as most jars and bags of chips from the grocery store. The wait staff speaks very little English so if you know Spanish you have an advantage. I will not be branching out in El Meskal's direction again. read more

My husband and I have enjoyed eating at the Gonzales El Meskal many many times. However, last night was our last time. We sat at the bar and witnessed a rat run down the side of the refrigerator. We stayed calm and quietly told our waiter. He said he would tell someone. We then asked another young man that was getting drinks behind the bar if the owner or manager was there. He said he didn't understand English but had answered an earlier general question to us in English. When we left our waiter told us that he did let someone know. I'm just so disappointed because we have always enjoyed the food AND recommended the place to others. I'm disgusted when I think of all the times we've taken our kids and grandkids there. It saddens me to feel the need to make this incident public but they did not seem surprised or interested in hearing about what we saw which gives me the impression that nothing will be done about it. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. Always lots of cars. Boy was I disappointed. when we walked in it was dirty outside and the inside was not much better but we thought we would try it because some of the best food I have eaten have been from little holes in the wall. We ordered taco salads the meat did not look good but again I tried the first bite I knew something was not good about the taste and then I felt something rough on my lips and I clean off the fork and there was lots of old food on it. I told my girlfriend to stop and her silverware was dirty to. I should have asked for the manger but we just got up paid and left. now my girlfriend is in the bathroom and I am in the living room filling up a garbage can full of vomit. read more

Was in the area visiting our son who is in the USCG. While in Gonzales, we wanted some good Mexican food. We decided to give El Meskal a try and were not disappointed. The service was friendly and fast and the food was well prepared, hot, and very tasty. I highly recommend this place to anyone needing to satisfy their Mexican food craving. read more

When we first started coming here, we loved it! Then the service became terrrible. We couldn't get our drinks or chips the 2nd to last time we came. We had 2 different waitresses take our drink order, and our drinks STILL didn't come. Then we kept asking for refills and napkins until my husband got up and got it all himself. The food was good. That was it. We thought maybe they just had a bad night, so we gave it another shot the other day. BIG MISTAKE!! We couldn't get our drinks again... nor could we get our utensils or really anything we asked for... we had to ask twice. They are clearly understaffed. We saw 2 other couples come in, sit down, and leave after not getting service. We also saw others getting up to get their own napkins and refills. We asked for our check 2 times and then stood at the register for a good while. I've never really been one for giving people a hard time. If they'd hire more staff, they'd be a lot better off, and wouldn't lose business. read more
