We enjoyed the food here and thought it was decently priced. However, the portions were a bit small. Food was served promptly but the only thing that I didn't like about our experience was the rudeness of the waiter. No conversation with our table, little friendliness, very standoffish the whole time. A little courtesy goes a long way!

We ate here in a Sunday at noon. I figured that the place would be packed but there was two tables, one a group of four and the other a group of three. I mentioned that I was surprised and a member of our group said that they restaurant has really been going downhill in the last 4-5 months. I noticed that the floor beneath the table that the host took us too was dirty. The table top was sticky as well. Our server was at the table quickly, brought our drinks and took our orders. They arrived fairly quickly. The chips and the salsa are the ones Gordon Food Service sells, just typical quality bulk store food. I ordered chicken Fajitas with no tomato and no beans. The picture below is what I got. Notice the big hunks of green pepper, uncut ends. There was no cheese, no lettuce, no rice, no Pico de Gallo, no guacamole, no sour cream, etc. even though the menu says it is served with that. When I asked about it, I was told that was a Mexican Salad and asked if I wanted to order one. We had one drink re-filled one time. Service wasn't horrible but it wasn't average or above, especially when you consider the empty restaurant. When we left just before 1 pm they'd only had a total of 5 tables, the largest was the group of four (two adults and two kids). I guess they really have gone downhill. I'll go to one of the Wood River Mexican restaurants. They're only 3 miles away. Bathroom was a C-. I would HATE to see the Kitchen.

Tonight I had the chicken nachos; little less cheese sauce than usual but still good.

I have a few near my home in IL, but they're basically the same and I wanted something new this Tuesday. I arrived a little after 8PM. When my server came to the table I immediately ordered a house Margarita. While my server was retrieving my drink, another brought me a basket of chips and salsa. The chips were crisp and warm and the salsa was a typical salsa, but it had a little more pepper taste to it. For an appetizer, I tried their, Choriqueso. It was served in a cast iron skillet and the cheese was almost scorched and there really wasn't that much flavor. Next time I'll just get good ole white cheese dip or guacamole. I did enjoy a hard shell beef taco, since it was Taco Tuesday and it was fairly decent. The beef was seasoned well and the toppings completed a good experience. My main entree was a Chicken Fajita Quesadilla. It was very good. However, I do not understand why none of the Mexican restaurants on this side of the river, slice the quesadillas into sections. They've all served them in one big piece. The side of rice that accompanied my quesadilla, was some of the most flavorful that I have enjoyed on the IL side. One of the highlights of going to any Mexican restaurant is always, the Margarita. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. I had two and both of them were very weak. My first one was a medium size with no salt. When I ordered a small for my second drink, I would have thought the server would have remembered, no salt. He did not and they were not that busy. Service was friendly, even if he forgot my "no salt" request. They also, did a steady and good job cleaning between diners. Being seated near the cashier stand, I was impressed with the number of carry-out orders they were processing and that guest came in wearing mask. I'll give them another try. I heard you have to try the, Joe Morales Tacos, which are Fried Tacos similar to those you get at Jack-n- The Box. I also, want to give their burritos a try. When: August 31, 2021 Why: Taco Tuesday

The absolute fastest service on every visit, no other restaurant we've been to serves entrees that fast. Also, if you want a great dinner that's easy on the wallet, this is the place. Because, when I do come, I enjoy my experience. The other day I stopped in for lunch and in the foyer, they had a board with weekly specials. One of the specials was, Shrimp Chimichanga. That made my decision real easy. Shrimp Tacos and Quesadillas are my favorite Mexican foods, so why not try a Chimichanga. It came with Refried Beans and Rice. It also has small servings of Guacamole and Sour Cream. The shrimp inside my Chimichanga were good sized and if memory serves me right, there were 8 stuffed inside. If not 8, it was 6 and it filled it to the brim. I love it when an entree has Guacamole, that way you can use it with your chips as you enjoy your entree. It also allows me to order good ole White Cheese Dip at the beginning, to enjoy with the complimentary Chips and Salsa. When I was served mine, the chips were still warm. Nothing beats a fresh warm chip dipped in salsa and white cheese. Dining alone makes it acceptable to double dip mixing the two together. A Margarita was my adult beverage of choice. I enjoyed a Jumbo sized and it lasted me through my appetizer and entree. To my delight, it was served to me in a frosted Margarita glass. I was frosted better than some beer mugs I have had. My server was friendly and attentive. In addition to waiting on tables, he was busy wrapping silverware and his multi-tasking did not take away from quality service. I plan to keep Taqueria Maya in my rotation of Mexican restaurants. It's worth the drive and worth passing by some of their competitors, to enjoy their quality of food.
