It was Taco Tuesday and I wanted a new experience. One thing I do miss about living in STL, is the vast selection of Mexican restaurants I had to choose from. I have a few near my home in IL, but they're basically the same and I wanted something new this Tuesday. I arrived a little after 8PM. When my server came to the table I immediately ordered a house Margarita. While my server was retrieving my drink, another brought me a basket of chips and salsa. The chips were crisp and warm and the salsa was a typical salsa, but it had a little more pepper taste to it. For an appetizer, I tried their, Choriqueso. It was served in a cast iron skillet and the cheese was almost scorched and there really wasn't that much flavor. Next time I'll just get good ole white cheese dip or guacamole. I did enjoy a hard shell beef taco, since it was Taco Tuesday and it was fairly decent. The beef was seasoned well and the toppings completed a good experience. My main entree was a Chicken Fajita Quesadilla. It was very good. However, I do not understand why none of the Mexican restaurants on this side of the river, slice the quesadillas into sections. They've all served them in one big piece. The side of rice that accompanied my quesadilla, was some of the most flavorful that I have enjoyed on the IL side. One of the highlights of going to any Mexican restaurant is always, the Margarita. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. I had two and both of them were very weak. My first one was a medium size with no salt. When I ordered a small for my second drink, I would have thought the server would have remembered, no salt. He did not and they were not that busy. Service was friendly, even if he forgot my "no salt" request. They also, did a steady and good job cleaning between diners. Being seated near the cashier stand, I was impressed with the number of carry-out orders they were processing and that guest came in wearing mask. I'll give them another try. I heard you have to try the, Joe Morales Tacos, which are Fried Tacos similar to those you get at Jack-n- The Box. I also, want to give their burritos a try. Our favorite Mexican restaurant never fails to deliver. We went there tonight. The Joe Morales tacos are amazing. I love their rice and beans, as well. The absolute fastest service on every visit, no other restaurant we've been to serves entrees that fast. Also, if you want a great dinner that's easy on the wallet, this is the place. Super nice staff, every time we've gone, anyone says differently then they are not being truthful. read more

This is an average Mexican restaurant in the Metro East. The menu features the same items found at every restaurant in the area. In fact it seems like it may even be the same menu with the name changed. The Joe Morales tacos are an interesting local flavor consisting of ground beef, lettuce and cheese in a deep fried taco shell and sprinkled with Mexican crumble cheese. It's different and worth a try one time. To be fair I am from California and have not found Mexican food in the metro area to match that of home. However I am also grading a little hard due to the service. I usually had better service here but tonight we seemed forgotten by our waiter. The chips were extremely stale and never saw the waiter for refills. Even took awhile after finishing just to get our check. Will I return here someday? Certainly. I miss Mexican food and it's not like there is a great alternative. This place will cure my craving. read more

Stopped here for lunch today. They have outdoor seating, and indoor as well. They have a lunch menu, we ordered from that. I had a chicken chimichanga, with lettuce, rice, and refried beans on the side. Melted cheese on top of the chimi. It was all good. Daughter had a full order of beef nachos, beef, refried beans and melted cheese over taco chips. And, of course, they brought out chips and salsa at the beginning. She liked the nachos. I feel a little biased making a review for Los Tres Amigos. My co-workers and I go there several times a week for lunch. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. The place is clean inside and well kept. the interior is decorated nicely with bright colors and part of the dining area was recently redecorated. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. We are very well taken care of. I have a few "go to" items on the menu like Tom's Special". Morales tacos, and La Bandera. The food is always hot and fresh and served in a timely manner. read more

Stopped in for a stroll down memory lane for the taste buds! The last time I was here was 2007 and it felt and tasted like I never left... The same great atmosphere with soccer on the TVs and music in the background. I ordered what Los Tres is famous for, the Morales tacos. The exact same size and taste... Wonderful. Always saw this place from the road every time we came to Walmart, and finally decided to give them a try. I had a large burrito and my wife had a chicken chimichanga. Both were good and the side queso dip was even better. Service was very friendly and prompt. Would definitely come here again! read more

Let's hop and skip over to the important parts: WALK IN: I really don't pay attention to the decor, it's all the same cheesy crap. The inside is fairly clean and the bathrooms were spotless. Staff greets you right away. They speak a fair amount of English. Your seated with menus and complimentary chips 'n' salsa. CHIPS AND SALSA: Besides the friendly staff, the chips and salsa are the first impression. Chips actually tasted like corn tortillas, not that waxy crap you get at some Mexican restaurants. Salsa is where I took a star off because it was nothing special. Usually I put away the chips and salsa if the salsa is good. This I ate some and then was done with it. FOOD: The menu describes everything and even has a section for definitions if you don't exactly know what a chalupa is. I thought that was pretty helpful. They have your basics and other specials you'll see at other restaurants. What I noticed is the prices were good and their food specials don't end at a certain time (say before dinner time), they're all day long. Kitchen staff churned out our order pretty quickly. I ordered the taco salad and was very pleased with the generous sour cream, usually they skimp because it's so costly. It also had white shredded cheese AND white cheese dip. Yummy!!! The rest of my party was pleased with their Mon night special of 3 tacos, rice and beans for $6!! Yes, $6 freaking dollars for all that! My husband's steak burrito was large and already drenched in white cheese dip. Usually you have to pay $1 extra if you want it topped on your burrito. OVERALL ASSESSMENT: This place is an A+ in my book. Although I can't vouch for the drinks, (I'm trying to be good) the food is top notch to where you don't even need a marg. Overall this is a good standby for a quick lunch or easy dinner. Been here many time for a quick workday lunch. The service is always prompt and friendly. The restaurant is clean, well maintained and has plenty of Mexico-Americona decor. As for the food you get plenty of for your dollar and the quality is always consistent. The chips and salsa the comes to the table when you are seated is ok but nothing specially. If you like your salsa anything above mild you won't be impresses. The joe morales tacos are pretty good. Usually have to ask for extra sour cream. The chips and salsa was pretty good. You get beans and rice with this dish. The service is pretty fast. You get ground beef, lettuce and a white cheese. I mixed the salsa into the shell. Meat was a little dry. Drinks are served in a big cup. read more

I have never been a huge fan of this place but I thought we would give it another try. The mood/decor is about the same as any typical restaurant. Our waiter(s) was very nice and polite although he did put lemons in our water even though we asked for none. No big deal. The drink glasses are giant so they don't need to be refilled as often. That is a plus. Our food came out extremely fast. I got the enchiladas supremas (4 different enchiladas). The sauce/salsa on top was kind of meaty. It tasted like a cheap red sauce out of a frozen 'Italian' dinner. The beef didn't seem to be cooked as much as it should have but none of us got sick or anything. My meal had too much lettuce and my enchiladas were somewhat soggy because the plate was watery. Like I said, I have been here many times and thought I would give it 1 last chance. If you are in a pinch and this is the only Mexican you can get, I would give it a go, but I like El Mezcal in Bethalto better. read more
