My first time at El Nibble Nook was a few months ago. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted so I chose a combo -- one with the Jardin burrito specifically because I wanted some veggies. Boy, was it delicious! The other items on the plate were amazing as well, ESPECIALLY the salsa. Made fresh daily, the salsa has a good amount of heat and a favorable mouth-feel. Every dish I've had since has been divine -- I just don't remember what they're called. Haha. I've only sat at the bar, though the patio looks pretty nice. The bartender that's usually there, while busy, still makes time to chit chat, answer questions, and even provide great recommendations. He's pretty darn good at making drinks too! The margaritas are PHENOMENAL, and they have a pretty great selection of craft beers and a titillating cocktail menu (don't miss the boozy desserts on the dessert menu!). I only wish it were closer to my house so I could drink more and get a Lyft home! And maybe one day I'll somehow make room for dessert. :) read more

One of the better Mexican restaurants. They have a separate vegetarian menu and and make every effort to make the customer happy. It was our first visit there and we had the 7 layer dip with fried tortilla and jalapeno poppers which were good. Their salsa varieties range from mild medium hot and all are pretty good. The dessert was the highlight of the night we had the ice cream taco and would definitely recommend it, its basically ice cream with whipped cream, nuts, strawberry, chocolate. read more

Simply terrible.. the service is unbelievably bad.. waitress couldn't remember our order! We ordered appetizers and they never showed up.. she just brought us the main course! Of course also forgot our drinks :) .. we had to remind the waitress.. Now onto the food.. meh! Lacks taste and flavor... The salad was soggy and the chimichangas were dripping with oil! This restaurant was blah ! The salsa was the worst . I asked if there was something hotter , she finally brought it after I had reminded her to bring it . It was worst than the mild ? I told the waitress it tasted kind of funky . She didn't know why , she just made it that morning ? So ... the waitresses make the salsa ? Yeah she said a can of diced tomatoes and some chili pepper flakes ? That explained a lot . Perhaps they should leave the cooking to the cooks ? What keeps me going back to Mexican restaurants is the chips and salsa , I would think they would take the time to prepare it so it would make you want to return . I have fond memories of eating at El Nibble Nook when I was a kid but clearly the only similarity with the experience and food I remember is the name itself. I would rather have eaten the Mexican dish of the day at West Bloomfield Convalescing. This was the saddest meal I have eaten in sometime. I actually considered paying for my meal and going to another Mexican restaurant that has good food. The tortilla chips were stale. They could have at least done the right thing and served us Tostitos. The fajitas came to us on a plate. Everything on one plate. No skillet. Any chain restaurant would put the effort in to serve it hot on a skillet. The side items were in little plastic cups so as to not hide the fact they were probably portioned out last week. Everything was greasy and lacked any culinarily skill in seasoning, preparation or even the tiniest amount of effort. I felt sorry for everyone there and could not figure out how they have regulars. These were truly wasted calories. A Hungry-Man microwave dinner would have provided more satisfaction. Please don't waste a meal here. read more

We came here on Cinco de Mayo, which meant it was incredibly busy. Even with that, the wait was relatively short (15 minutes). The wait staff were very polite and efficient, returning several times to to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent. I had the fajitas, which I shared with my daughter. The steak was cooked exactly as was ordered, and the selection of condiments was better than most places. My wife had the fish tacos, which she devoured (a testament in itself). Desert was simple: fried ice cream. The choice of honey and cinnamon as a topping was excellent, making the ice cream sweet without being cloying. My daughter had the ice cream taco, which she described as "beautiful". All-in-all, it was a fun and delicious dinning experience. read more

I really had high hopes for this place. It had several cars in the parking lot, so I thought it must be OK...WRONG! The food was awful and the waitress was even worse! I wanted to order tacos or tostadas with shrimp or fish because I do not eat meat. The waitress was standoffish and refused to check with kitchen to accommodate me. I said I don't did say I didn't mind paying extra. When I only ordered guacamole, she got a major attitude. My husband ordered beef tacos and said they lacked flavor. He left almost his whole meal and the waitress did not even ask why he left so much. Don't not waste your money here! There are too many great restaurants in the area. I've been coming to the Nook for my entire life. It's a nice mix up from other basic american-mexican spots in the area. The food never disappoints and the made-in-house margs are delicious. They are not overly sweet like most pre-made mixes, and can be served in carafes which is perfect for two people. read more

Refried beans were from a can, limes were brown and half rotten that came with my corona. Paid 9 dollars for greasy, tasteless meat in a tortilla with lettuce for a topping. Went here for lunch with a couple of co-workers. The restaurant looks nice, but I probably wont go back. A few notes: The waitress awkwardly interrupted our conversations multiple times. I ordered the Tostada Tijule(sp?) con Queso. The beans looked like they were from a can opened two weeks ago, though they gave me more than I would have expected (kind of throwing off the taste). Based on what I've read, I should have ordered a margarita. Perhaps that would have made my food taste better. Based on experiences with other Mexican restaurants with comparable dishes, the meal was a little over-priced. The waitress sat us next to the window, which had a nice view of the outdoors. If you don't leave with a stomach ache, you'll surely get one on the drive home because the food just tastes weird. I ordered a combination platter called the La Fiesta. It sounded like a party would commence in my mouth after every bite...or so I thought. It came with rice, refried beans, an enchilada, a rolled up tortilla thingamabob, a chalupa-type taco, and a whole bunch of cheese sprinkled on the plate. Based upon this array of food, I got a taste of everything El Nibble Nook has to offer and well, it's not much. The food was served warm. Not hot and not cold, even though I would have preferred one extreme versus a temperature somewhere in the middle where the food was either not cooked enough or it sat out for 20 minutes until the waitress decided to grab the plate. The refried beans were served lukewarm and had crusted over on the top. The melted cheese over my enchilada had hardened on the plate. My chalupa-type thing was all shell with way too much lettuce and tomato and way too little chicken. The rolled up tortilla thingamabob with cheese and chicken tasted sweet. The salsa was pretty good though and the chips were served warm, however, everything else was pitiful and I'm a little bummed. The place has a great Mexican atmosphere and they were totally decked out for Christmas. I'm no Mexican food buff, but I know delicious and this place doesn't have it. read more

I have decided I am officially a Mexican snob. I work in Mexican Town so I get GREAT Mexican food all the time. I was hoping to find a spot closer to home, but, um, no. I would make the 25 minute drive there ANY TIME!!! I ordered a Coke. This was not Coke. This was not even RC. I don't know what brand of brown carbonated beverage I was given. But blech! I had to giggle reading the other reviews where Yelpers commented on the "fresh chips". No, they are not fresh, they are just warmed up. I walked past the kitchen and saw huge bins of chips just waiting to be warmed up. The salsa tastes like ketchup with some cilantro, onions, and maybe some jalapenos. I ordered the tostadas con queso. Uh, how boring. The beans were clearly from a can, the rice was dry and tasteless. Oh, and to the vegetarian Yelper who thought the beans and rice were vegetarian, they most likely were not. Most Mexican rice seasoning has chicken fat or stock already in the mix. Also, most people consider beans to be vegetarian...they don't think to check and see if lard is listed in the ingredients. (I too am a vegetarian, and I slack when it comes to beans and rice). My kids ordered a bean taco, and nachos. The nachos were simply chips smothered in cheese. No lettuce, no tomato, no beans. Nachos simplified, I guess. My husband had the cheese enchiladas. I stay away from dairy, but had a bite of his (for research, sake!), they were good. By far better than what the girls and I had. The taco was deep fried, which my daughter who goes to school in Mexican Town with me, was very confused by. She is used to having her bean taco with two corn tortillas that are warmed and lightly oiled when cooked. We took my husbands grandma and grandpa out for dinner. With three kids meals, 4 adult meals, and three adult non-alcoholic drinks with tip it was $80. I was pissed. I can add, but doing the mental math with how crappy the food was and how much more expensive it was, I could have fed all 7 of us three times AND had food that was WAAAAY better! If you want good Mexican food make the trip down to SW Detroit to Mi Pueblo or if you want seriously Mexican food in a more divey atmosphere hit Los Corales (cash only) on Junction. read more

This place is just gross. I wish my friend didn't like it here or else I wouldn't go. When I go to any establishment that serves food and beverages I don't want to flag down bartenders that aren't busy in order to get any type of service. For instance, can we get a menu? Do you think we can place our order now? Don't you usually have chips? Can I please get a water? Come on now. I'm not that uppity but the staff isn't attentive. I ordered what I though was a beef chimichanga. I'm getting close to forty and I'd like to think I know the difference between beef and chicken at my age. Hell, it tasted like BBQ pulled pork. At my father's suggestion, we ate at El Nibble Nook last night. I hadn't been there in a while and thought we could give it a try. Nothing was terrible, it just wasn't good. My parents shared fajitas which were basically flavorless. I am on a low carb eating plan so I had the taco salad with chicken. It was chincy -- more like a side salad to which they added a few slices of chicken and avocado. At 12.99, it had a very low price to value ratio. Very disappointing. Yum! We ordered a couple combination plates, chips, medium salsa and guacamole. The guacamole (not a usual favorite of mine..raw garlic kills me) was garlic-mild yet chunky with tomato but had the creamy texture of real avocados. The salsa was cooked rather than the fresh style you see at many Mexican restaurants...but still very tasty and seemed to have a freshness. Chips were crispy and just salted enough. I had the Tijuana Bypass combo, a shredded beef burrito, a chicken chalupa and a beef burrito accompanied by rice and beans. The shredded beef taco was so flavorful. Simple, just lettuce, tomato the beef and a beautifully fried corn tortilla. The chicken chalupa was the star. A mini fried tortilla cup (no grease, no grease pockets) filled with the most tender chicken and this SAUCE. Red with tomatoes and chilis and magic. Topped with cheese, baked then domed with a mountain of guacamole. The La Hacienda combo consists of a chicken flaunta, the chicken chalupa , and El Burro del Jardin...a broccoli and mushroom taco situation...with a cheese cream sauce!! Now, after the chalupas and tacos and flauntas, oh my!(which were amazing!) we have no idea what that tastes like. But it smelled delicious. So much food. Delivered hot and fast. Not overly salted or spiced, just perfect. Looking forward to leftovers. read more

Dry chicken, pickles were kind of strange but I love pickles so no big deal. This Mexican restaurant serves up a wide array of yummy tex-mex dishes, where you can get a quick meal for a great price. With locations in both West Bloomfield and Livonia, this is the spot I love for a weekday dinner out. The entrees here are massive! I love the combo meals because you get a little bit of everything and they will run you $10-$12. Chips and salsa are complimentary but appetizers are anywhere from $5-$9 and all other entrees cost $6-$27. The vibe at El Nibble Nook is simple, comfortable and homey. So called salsa no flavor Pace Picante sauce has more flavor than this place . This place is less than a mile from our house and yet we have not been here in several years due to past experiences. I'm pleased to say that our visit today has done a lot to put El Nibble Nook back into our rotation. Since our previous visits the salsa has improved (used to be much thinner, now a little chunky), the water has improved (used to taste like well water, now they either have a good filter or are on city water) plus the guac and margaritas were as good as they always have been. I have reviewed the one in Livonia and grew up going to that one. I every so often come to the one in West Bloomfield and only do so when I am dragged by relatives or friends that live in that end of town. The food is not as good, the portion size is smaller, and they make you pay for "extras" that you get for free at the place in Livonia (you get one round of chips in West Bloomfield and each extra round you have to pay for, for example). Although the food is OK it is much better to make the drive to Livonia. read more

This is your standard fair Mexican with added Americanization. The coleslaw is really good and its good to see that they redid the menu recently... They put the picadores back on the menu which is a big plus. All you can eat chips when you sit down with your pick of three salsas is a plus. Try the fajitas for two. read more

We were so excited to see that el nibble nook was in west Bloomfield you see years ago my husband and I used to go to the one in Livonia and loved their food... unfortunately we had a horrible experience in west Bloomfield the waitress assumed I wasn't going to have the fajitas I ordered when we asked for the batona so took our drink orders and started to leave and my husband told her he hadn't given his dinner order she took it down and left the table so she brought the batana and my husband's order same time and after about 5-10 min realized she didn't even put mine in so she put a rush on it and when it came it was supposed to be shrimp and it was chicken I even asked her in the beginning if I could get a mix of chicken and shrimp no you have to order a full order so I said I'll have the shrimp. I know watresses can make mistakes but this one was all over with mistakes and she had worked there for many years I'm sorry but I can't give her a free pass it's unfortunate for the owners but these days you need to step up. read more

We have not been here in years and decided to try it tonight. We arrived to a half empty restaurant at 7:00 pm on a Saturday night. Environment a little cafeteria like with too bright of lights. We ordered the Ultimate Margaritas which were very good and the chips and salsa were also very good. However the food was not very good. I ordered the cheese quesadilla with beef and my husband ordered the chicken enchiladas. My meal was not very good and my husbands food was ok. The waitress was very nice but kept explaining why everything was so slow to being "too busy". Again the place was half empty. We won't be coming back again--there are way too many places that are good with a nice environment. My advice is to skip this restaurant unless you just want a margarita at the bar. read more

Outstanding mexican food. My kids love the tacos. We go there after swim meets and they could eat a mountain of tacos.

For starters, at least they don't use chips right out of the bag. Those are just not allowed at a mexican restaurant. They are warm, but the salsa lacks in spice. The mild was basically stewed tomatoes dumped into a bowl. No onion, no cilantro or garlic. The spicy version probably just had some hot sauce tossed in. Aside from the lackluster salsa, I really do enjoy their Beef Chimichanga. It is slow-cooked meat, shredded. Tastes almost like barbecue seasoned. Then its inside of a deep fried tortilla. I crave these now, though the rest of the menu for the rest of the family is just eh. Luckily my kids are three and four and just fill up on chips and salsa and my refried beans. Ambiance is good for families, and now that its all non smoking, I can actuallly eat there without choking! Bottom Line: If you are a fan of the pulled bbq beef, I recommend the chimichanga. Always love The Nook! Very strong margaritas never fail. The shredded beef is a great Tex-Mex flavor. My favorite is substituting it into the beef and cheese enchiladas!
