Ordered 3 chicken taquitos, 1 chicken tostado, 1 chicken quesadilla app, guacamole, chicken fajitas with bean salad, a side of refried beans. $57.36 They absolutely don't accept Amex cards at all. Unbelievable, beyond disappointing. The corn chips are quite greasy, but crunchy. The guacamole isn't too bad. We asked for jalapeños to add to it, we got pickled jalapeños. I would have thought they would have loads of fresh jalapeños, given the type of cuisine here. The pickled jalapeño gives the guacamole a very different taste to it. Cheese everywhere. Ugh. All over the taquitos and the chicken tostada too. The chicken in the taquitos are hard as jerky. The rest of the chicken in the taquito is super dry. The bean salad is so-so, has overcooked peas in it, corn, bland beans, red pepper, tomatoes. The chicken fajita is okay, a tad dry, there's some tomatillo or salsa verde in the grilled chicken with the red pepper, green peppers and onions. The small pico that comes with the fajita has good heat, from the fresh jalapeños. The quesadillas have a ton of cheese, not a lot of chicken inside, looks like an after thought. Service was ok. I wish I could give them zero stars. I came here once in 2013 and realized why I never came back. I hate writing bad reviews, but unfortunately I am. I gave them another try today because I randomly wanted some Mexican (and I totally forgot it was May 5th). So I came here with my family and should have stayed home. This was thee worst Mexican I have ever had in my life. My corn tortillas were turn into crispy shells because they were cooked too long and not soft (pan heated). My carnitas had no flavor. My horchata was so sour tasting and smelling. It was also thick and very curdy. I sent it back. The rice might have been the worst part. There was no flavor. The rice is what I remember 12 years ago. It tastes like minute rice. The only things good were the chips and salsa. The waitress was nice, but she was new. Nothing was her fault. I unfortunately was very unhappy with this place. I saw that El Mariachi wasn't too far from where I was at the time, and it got good reviews, so I decided to try it. The restaurant is fairly large, but they only had half of it open when I was there. The decor is bright, airy and friendly. I was only seated a minute when Eric brought out chips and salsa. Very good chips and salsa. Very dangerous chips and salsa! Lol! In my opinion, it seemed a little more upscale and expensive than other Mexican restaurants, but not overly so. They also offer a lot more than just your average tacos-burritos-enchiladas. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted; I changed my mind several times but finally settled on the small carnitas fajita salad, which is something I hadn't seen on a menu before. It was pretty big for a small salad; I couldn't even finish it. (Probably because of the aforementioned chips & salsa!) the meat was cooked nicely, and I liked the variety of vegetables in the salad. The tortilla shell was particularly good -- light, crispy and flaky, and not at all greasy like so many other shell bowls. First time here and was impressed. Enjoyed the chips and salsa. Chips were not super fresh but not stale. Good tasting salsa - personally I love cilantro so a little more in the salsa would have been great. I orders the taco combination - it was great as I can never decide what kind of taco I want. I got one fish taco, a ground beef taco and a carne asada taco. Each one was delicious! Hubby ordered Pollo Ranchero. I am not a dark meat chicken fan but even I had to admit the spicy flavor and grill on the chicken was superb! We will be back and explore the menu further. read more

Started out praying that we wouldn't have to sit next the small child in line with us watching TV on her parents smart phone at a volume everyone in the lobby could hear. #bad-parenting. I would definitely say this restaurant makes authentic Mexican cuisine just like my Godfather did! The rice and beans were exactly as I recall. The taco was crunchy, not greasy and the meat was flavorful as well. The green sauce enchilada had some spice but not too much for this gringo. We went to the Novi restaurant. It was cutely decorated. I really loved the taco figurine in the fish tank! We visited for a long while and we were never rushed out by the staff or felt we were needing to hurry. There are standard American favorites available like Mac n cheese and burgers for those that may not want any spice. Worth the visit. read more

Salsa, both mild and hot, get 5 stars from me. Super great flavor I would buy if sold in jars. Chips fresh and hot. After that, everything else was your average Mexican food, nothing to write home about. I ordered the Fiesta Salad. Per the menu, it comes with: spring mix lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, black bean salad, tortilla strips, cheese, dressing. I added grilled chicken. While it was a fine enough salad, when I got it I was laughing to my parents because it had frozen peas all over it. Frozen peas. Not in description, and more importantly, not an ingredient I would ever expect to find on a Mexican salad. Very strange, so I had to carefully pick them all away. Also ordered at my table were enchiladas and a mini combo plate. Huge portions which was good, but again, very average Mexican food. But it has been my experience that Mexican restaurants are like asking people's opinions, they're all different. I politely declined. But she was insisting we should. What a great surprise! We stopped in on a whim only to discover a gem! First... great food. The beans were legit. The carne asada tacos were quite tasty, the meat was tender and seasoned authentically. My date had the quesadilla and it was great too! It was not busy but nor was it empty when we stopped in for an early dinner. Great service! The gal who served our table was fun and friendly. Thank you! I think the biggest surprise was that from the street it is hard to know what to expect. It's northern Novi so it's suburban, neighborhood. I have nothing nice to say about this place. The experience was ruined by the terrible service. We were served by a woman named Amy who had without a doubt the worst attitude I've ever experienced. I've worked in the restaurant industry and I know how difficult it can be as a server, but she was shockingly, unreservedly rude and for absolutely no reason. My party of 6 sat down and we hadn't even been inside this restaurant for more than 3 minutes tops before she immediately came over to us with an attitude, rolling her eyes, scoffing at our questions, and giving us rude remarks while taking our orders. She did not want to bring us water or napkins or silverware, genuinely looking annoyed and rolling her eyes when we asked for these things. Amy had a problem with us and she made sure we knew it. Not sure what we could've done to deserve this treatment. We did finally confront her about this, genuinely confused about why we were being treated this way. She played dumb. I will never return to this restaurant after Amy left such a sour taste in our mouths and I sincerely hope management speaks to her about this. I really don't like people getting in trouble, but I've never been treated so poorly before and had my night ruined by such a miserable person. Everything I've tried from here I have really liked. All the meats are of high quality, the ingredients are always fresh and the service is friendly. They also have a wide variety of beers and mixed drinks available. The hot and mild salsas are both made from scratch and the tortilla chips are deep fried on site. Their refried beans are delicious and 100% vegetarian, although I usually opt for the charros beans as I find that they are perfect for mixing with my rice. Quick summary: We've been here twice now! 4.5 stars for food, 3.5 for service, which can be little flaky but hasn't been that bad for us. Of the 3 or 4 Mexican restaurants in Walled Lake and Farmington Hills I've been to, this is my favorite. It's noticeably cleaner than most restaurants and the decor is bright and cheerful. The food is always good (although my wife doesn't like their enchilada sauce) - freshly cooked, the right temperature, and the right amount for the price. There are always families with kids in here, and the staff and customers are very kid friendly (towards our 1-year old.) Some of the wait staff consists of local high school students, it seems, which might explain the inconsistent service. They haven't been a problem for us though, and they're certainly not a good reason to avoid this place. Tonight, our fajitas came faster than I expected, in fact. Eating here has been a great experience for us both times, and we'll be going back again in the near future. read more

Really, really good! My son and I shared nachos here for lunch and it was just right. There is an upgraded nachos on the menu with avocado and refried beans; we chose that with carne asada... delicious! I also had a hibiscus tea margarita, which was only so-so. The waiter asked if I wanted salt or sugar on the rim, but I was on the spot so I quickly chose salt; it likely would have been much better with a sugar rim. Even with that caveat, I probably would not order it again. Our waiter was odd to the point that I wondered if he was developmentally handicapped.
