Wifey and I decided last minute to Dine at PV. Vale was our cordial, professional server. Wifey ordered the Martin Special which she said was hotter than usual. She gave me the jalapeños to add to my Chicken Burrito. It was all good including the salsa. The ambiance is colorful and comfortable. Stopped in for my brothers birthday. Very cute place, staff were nice, and service was fast. The menu is very different compared to other places I have been. So instead of my usual chicken, rice, and queso, I picked something random. It was LOADED. Chicken, steak, shrimp, and rice on the inside of the burrito. The queso has a nice smoky taste. It was delicious. The salsa you get as an appetizer is hot and mild. I didn't try the mild. But the hot was pretty spicy to me. But had great flavor. read more

Wifey and I brought 2 grandchildren to dine at PV after church on Sunday. Bale and Luis were our servers. Our daughter showed up several minutes later to join us. We started with chip and salsa, cheese dip and guacamole. The cheese dip was a little runny, but we got through it. Wifey ordered a lunch-size chicken fajita nachos. She liked it. I ordered 2 shredded chicken burritos. I keep forgetting to ask for the white cheese sauce rather than getting the red sauce, but it was okay. The chicken and wrap were very good. Daughter ordered 2 chicken chimichangas and liked them. Grandson ordered children's taco plate. He ate the taco and pretty much left the rest. Granddaughter ordered the children's steak plate and barely touched it. She said the steak, which was chopped up, was too tough to eat. We boxed it up and took it home for her mother. I think I usually go 5 stars at our favorite Mexican restaurant, but taking off a star on this occasion. Bale and Luis were very courteous and helpful. I trust we will be back soon. read more

I always enjoy eating at PV. The service is always good & it never takes long to get anything. We went around 6:00pm on Tuesday. We were seated as soon as we walked in. They had Tuesday margarita specials so we got a pitcher of lime margaritas for $12.99. Instead of getting the same thing we always get, we decided to try something new for dinner & I'm so glad we did! We ordered the Volcan Fajita - it comes with beef, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, fresh Mexican cheese, & spicy Volcan cheese. It comes with rice, beans, guac, sour cream, & tortillas. It was AMAZING. They have some great daily specials. I enjoy the Taco Tuesday special. They have some great flavor.

Since our last visit there's been a few improvements. The salsa, while still too "wet" had much better flavor. And the flour tortillas were much improved. And again, a packed lunchtime crowd without any sacrifice in service. I ordered lunch sized chicken fajitas and my wife went with a tostadaguac. Essentially, a tostada with ground beef, lettuce, cheese & guacamole. Portions are ample. The food served hot. But again my chicken was on the dry side. And, despite being on the menu as a side, you can't get black beans instead of refried. To us, that's a big deal. Puerta Vallarta is fine for lunch-but there's a lot of others to visit. read more

I was pretty pleased with this place. The interior is wild, someone really went to town on the faux finishes, but maybe if you came at night it wouldn't be so distracting? Anyway, my friends and I over-ordered because there was SO MUCH FOOD, and the prices were not bad at all for how much we got. We started with the CHORI QUESO (Mexican sausage topped with cheese sauce, grilled onions, and tomatoes, served with tortillas). This was decent, it was better with chips than the flour tortillas given though IMO Then we ordered the CHICKEN WINGS (Basket of 8 chicken wings served in your choice of sauce). We chose spicy buffalo sauce and while these were also good, they were not spicy to me Finally, my entree was the FISH TACOS (Fish topped with lettuce and tomatoes, served with rice and avocado slices). The fish was oddly prepared, at first I thought it was chicken because it was coated in a sauce and cut into cubes. But it was pretty good, although I wish they offered a traditional cilantro and onion instead of the tomato and lettuce. I couldnt tell you anything about the rice because by this time I was about to pop and couldnt take another bite. The menu skews american, which I guess is to be expected based on its location, but the people working were super efficient and nice, so if i was in the area I would come back again. read more

Had to take a walk to have dinner here on business. My wife and I went to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon in 2009 and when I saw the name the dinner choice was sealed. And boy was I delighted with the EL BURRITO DE LA ROQUETA. So flavorful, rice was really good and so were the chips and salsa. Had a delicious Corona Rita for a perfect pair. Cheers! read more

First things first. SOME of the dishes are good - like the chicken fajitas or carne asada burrito. Other items (anything prepared with ground beef) taste like a pure salt lick. So, fair to say I've had an on again/off again relationship with this restaurant. I mean, I even gave them a second chance after one of their employees added a tip to my take out order. (Management reimbursed, by the way). Now let's get real. We all know prices have increased. This last visit my daughter added onions to her entree. The cost? $2.99. For ONIONS! Utterly ridiculous. This was my first visit and I enjoyed the chimichanga, I thought everything was good. I definitely will be back.

Just ordered the Volcan to-go. $17.99 They charge an extra 70 cents for to-go orders. I did get salsa and a bag of chips. The chips were a little hard compared when you sit down and eat there. A couple of the staff asked what i was looking for. I wanted several different items like a taco, burrito, enchiladas... I decided to just go with my favorite The Volcan. I did not get my tortillas that are suppose to come with it. I even double checked and asked...do tortillas come with this? Well some one dropped the ball on that. They weren't busy so there is no excuse. Didn't like the extra charge for carry out but i paid. The menu is way too big! Most the combos are similar but called different things. Kitchen staff must go crazy over the huge menu. They can probably cut it in half if they wanted. Took it down to a 4 star because they firgot my tortillas and the up charge for carry out. read more

From a to go view point, my food was ready in a good amount of time. The employees were nice and working hard. There is a decent amount of space in the restaurant to sit and eat, parties, etc. The food was ok. The burrito was covered with cheese and toppings, with rice and beans on the side. Which is very Tex-mex for me and I wasn't expecting that. The nachos had too much liquid and the chips became soggy. This came with extra chips on the side as well which didn't help because they kept breaking. The fajitas did not come with corn tortillas like we read online, which was disappointing. The ala carte tacos apparently come with hard shells automatically l, so just a heads up. read more

This loyal fervor is comparable to the passion surrounding, say, Ollie's Trolley or Momma's Mustard over in Louisville. I don't know if I'm quite THAT sold on Puerto Vallarta, but it is a fine establishment. Good value, dependable staff and crowd-pleasing, flavorful fare make this a reliable option for a laid-back evening out. As far as "American-friendly Mexican" food is concerned, I wouldn't say this reaches the same heights as El Caporal or Yellow Cactus, but it certainly ups the ante from El Nopal or Tumbleweed. 3.5/5 rounded up to 4, and I particularly recommend the enchiladas rancheras. read more

Tucked inside the historic Quartermaster Station, serving up tasty salsa, cheesy quesadillas, spicy (but not spicy) burritos. When we looked up a Mexican restaurant in our area, this place had 4.3 stars, the reviews were great, so we decided to give it a try. Upon walking in, a man was eating and looked up at us like we were bothering him- he was an employee (shift manager or owner?) he grabbed a couple menus and walked to a table and stood in front of it, then turned around and looked at us like he wished we would leave. The waitress then came to our table and asked what we wanted to drink and if we wanted an appetizer (uh, we just sat down, haven't even had a chance to look at the menu) we order the guacamole and 2 waters. We thank her and she walks away like she has better things to be doing. She comes back, plops some green slime at our table, but we don't have any chips... she comes back a bit later with the chips and salsa. We order our lunch- I got enchiladas verdes and requested it with rice. My husband ordered 2 cheese enchiladas. Our meal comes out and mine has beans instead of rice, and my husbands enchiladas have been over cooked and are stuck to the plate. My enchiladas were very watery and not much taste. We went to pay after our already not so great experience, and no one is up there to take payment, also no one ever dropped a check at our table, so we had no idea what the cost was. Finally a kitchen guy came out and asked if we needed to be seated!?! This terrible lunch cost over 20.00. I do not recommend this place at all. I'm not sure how they got such great reviews, but I hope this helps another person not have to endure the terrible experience. read more

We go to Puerto Vallarta weekly with my husbands parents. We never get tired of it because of the quality and the endless menu options. This place is the best. Mexican food is my favorite and this place never disappoints. We've tried many things on the menu and they have all been nothing short of great quality and deliciousness. My favorite has to be the fajita chicken quesadilla. Chicken, cheese, and green peppers & onions. Queso and homemade salsa are the best I've ever had at a mexican restaurant. The food always comes super fast. So fast that (unless you stay and chit chat and sip on margaritas) you're in and out in about 30 mins. In my opinion the strawberry mix they use for margaritas and daiquiris tastes kind of "fake". That's the only bad thing I can say about this place and it's really not even bad. I just always go with the mango and it's always amazing. Service is always great and we've never had any issues or mix up with any of our food or orders at all. Great place all around! read more

PV has been our favorite Mexican restaurant for years. On this occasion they were not busy. My grandchildren and I were seated and forgotten. I finally flagged down the manager to give our order. We received chips and salsa and cheese dip TWICE before they took our order. My grand-daughter said "this is the best cheese EVER." After we ordered we asked for another chips and salsa. The manager told me it would be $3 for more chips and salsa. We came hungry and the service was taking longer than normal for not being crowded, so I gave him a look that he better not be charging me extra. He said this time we won't be charged extra. The whole time our server seemed perturbed with us. The food was delivered and fine as usual, but after ordering straight from the menu with no extras, our server tried to upcharge me on the bill for cheese on the kids meals. The menu states those meals come with cheese so I told her to correct the bill. Again, our server was perturbed. I paid my bill with two $20 bills and was shorted $10 in change. AGAIN, our server was perturbed. No apologies from her for getting it wrong. She doesn't seem fit for this line of work. Guests should have a pleasant dining experience. I used patience and gave them opportunity to correct the substandard service. What they did with the opportunity earned 2 stars what normally is 4 or 5 stars. Puerto Vallarta is one of the better "authentic" Mexican restaurants around. Good salsa, well the hot is good the mild is basically just tomato sauce. Great cheese dip. Strong margaritas, too strong if you ask me. I like a little flavor besides tequila in my margaritas but I definitely feel like I got my money's worth. I usually get the Is Special which is basically their seasoned rice topped with chicken and their white cheese sauce. It's simple but yummy. I usually get a side of beans and a side of tortillas to go with it so I can wrap it all up like little tacos. Decent prices for sure and always quick service. I do recommend avoiding the guacamole. It is by far the worst I have ever eaten. It was slimy and tasteless. Similar to the crap that comes in a jar at the grocery store. Other than that I recommend The food at Puerto Vallarta. read more

It really depends on the day you go and the food you order if this is a three or four star restaurant. I adore the queso here. It's fabulous. The chicken taquitos are usually very good. The last time I ordered a quesadilla it was limp from the amount of grease it had. Not a good thing. The Ishmael with a side of beans and queso on top is probably my new go to now that I have diabetes. The chicken and shrimp in it are yummy and the beans, while full of carbs, are better for you than chips or tortillas. Puerto Vallarta is my favorite of the the three restaurants in Quartermaster Station where I work. It is a convenient and tasty lunch choice for days I splurge and don't bring my own lunch. read more
