My daughter bought 2 plates of ropa vieja, a Cuban sandwich and like 5 guava pastries. Which total came out to like $50 bucks. I started eating the sandwich but I smelled something weird. Then I got a piece of pork and it smelled putrid I spit out the piece I had in my mouth. I called Nuevo Mundo and explained to the lady about how the meat smelled bad and she was like bring the sandwich and we'll give you another one or your money back for the sandwich. We bought an arroz con pollo in the past which was very good. We came back about a week ago and this time ordered chicken and rice but separated...not arroz con pollo. They gave 2 small pieces of chicken and half a plate of what tasted like uncooked white rice. The plate wasn't cheap either. I couldn't eat any of the rice. It was so clumpy and hard. They had to of known before even serving it. You can tell how hard it is when scooping it with a spoon. Next time I will take the food back, but I honestly think they will not care. This is a great little market in Bell that sells items needed for Cuban and Puerto Rican dishes. They have a meat market and serve a variety of Latin dishes and desserts if you're looking for a quick bite. The owner and one of the employees were amazing today. I was able to find products I couldn't find at other markets such as culantro, frozen pidgeon peas, and ajicito peppers. One of the employees helped me locate the freshest ingredients they had, which I was thankful for, since I'm attempting to make homemade sofrito for the first time. He really took the time to find out if they had everything on my list. The owner came out and chatted for a bit. He was welcoming and incredibly personable. He told me a little about their deli and which items were popular. They cure their own pork which is great if you're looking for fresh salted pork! Parking was free and located in front of the store. I went shopping to El Nuevo Mundo two weeks ago mainly to get ajicito and they had plenty. The ajicitos were all green, but after finding them for the first time in Southern California after 20+ years I won't complain. I also took home some yuca, but typically that is not hard to find. It seems like they also carry culantro, but they didn't have any when I went. I was hoping to find some gandules, but given the holiday season I understand them running out. Maybe on my next visit they will have the stuff I missed. They had plenty of canned latinamerican items, may of them Goya, but on some items there were other choices. They also had a few bakery items, namely breads and sweets. Since we were coming from Riverside we decided to bring home a few cooked items: lechon con congris, carne guisada con congris, sandwich cubano, croquetas, and relleno de papas. Needless to say we enjoyed it all and it was worth it. To the owners thanks for your business that sells these hard to find ingredients that help us make our foods taste mire authentic.
