Okay, okay, okay! I've heard all the hype about their tacos. I finally stopped to give them a try. This may be a newer location in a recently developing area. The place is nice and clean with a lot of seating outside as well. We decided to enjoy the nice weather out on the patio for our visit. I love a shredded beef taco, my favorite style taco...other than an Al Pastor, but there are other places for that kind of taco! Back to the taco at hand! The El Parasol shredded beef taco. I ordered two of them along with a carne adovada burrito (for later). They bring the food to your table which is very nice. I liked the tacos, but they weren't as crunchy as I prefer. Also, there was something mixed in with the meat that I wasn't really a fan of. It was kind of like a paste, like it might have been mixed with refried beans and chile? It wasn't bad, just not my cup of tea. I'll have to try a ground beef or the chicken next time. We were heading to show and I knew nothing would be open afterwards, so that's why I grabbed the carne adovada burrito. They asked me if I wanted beans in the burrito with it, I said no. Just the adovada works for me! Let me tell you, this burrito did not disappoint. I know it would have been ten times better had I had it fresh and warm. That, I can say I would happily order again. This place and its other location always get over the top reviews. I've been to the other location a few times (yes I've had the tacos) this is my first visit to this location. This time I had a green chile burger with fries. It was okay, the fries were okay, the green chile had okay flavor but no heat. The service was fine and the place had a lot of flies flying around on the inside, I actually had to dump my drink because one landed inside my orange Fanta. I just don't get the hype this place gets. It's not bad but it's not the place it's made out to be by other people, I guess I'm just missing something. Recommended by a friend who lives near this location, I ordered the smothered bean and cheese burrito with green chile and a hard shelled ground beef taco. The taco was delicious and the shell had this unique flavor. The burrito was good as well, but was a bit cold when served. The prices weren't too bad but the portions are a bit small IMO. Ist time at SF location. Hubby got chicharrón burrito and tostada w/ guacamole. I got red pork tamale plate. Lady at register said red was "mild" and green was hot. No ma'am--that red was solid medium. Red salsa is fresh and bright tasting but that medium-hot sneaks up on you. If you can handle medium heat, stick with red; if you can handle fire, try the green. If ur a tourist, stick to things w/o chile or get everything on the side. read more

I am a native Santa Fean. I love all El Parasol/El Paragua and have my whole life. I was SO happy to find my beloved chilaquiles back on the menu, even just as a "special". So if you see it, do it. The veggie tacos are wildly good even if you are a hardcore carnivore. The places look and feel the same and that's a good thing. We love seeing the same owner/manager we have known for over 10 years with the same great service. Sadly in Abq now I still dream of their red chile & red salsa. read more

I've heard a lot of great things about this restaurant, and I was excited to try it coming from out of town. Coming from Chicago and growing up around a lot of authentic Mexican food, I was looking forward to try a place that was marketed to me as authentic. A lot of the things on the menu did seem authentic, but they didn't have your standard Mexican street tacos with cilantro and onion, so some did seem pretty Americanized (eg lettuce and cheese). The steak taco was very good and the guacamole was tasty. I had heard the carne adovada was a must try, so I ordered it, and while the meat was seasoned and cooked very well, I thought the burrito was just okay. Being just meat in a tortilla, the burrito left a bit to be desired for me. Overall good, but I don't think I'd make a special trip back. read more

June 6, 2023 - El Parasol Restaurant (Santa Fe, NM) We came here in search of a quick authentic Mexican food meal we could take back to our motor home at a nearby RV park. A dark storm was looming and we wanted to take it all in as we sat inside our cozy little RV with a glass of delicious California red wine, some warm posole (Mexican soup), and tacos. We showed up around 5:30 and got our order in pretty quickly. The woman at the register was friendly and efficient. Good service! We got a 16 oz. cup of beef posole, 2 beef tacos, and a vegetarian taco. They also do phone orders, so if you want to speed things up, call it in. It took about 10 minutes for our order to be filled. The restaurant is quite nice, with ample tables and chairs and a self-serve drink machine. Beautiful Mexican theme. A much classier version of a Taco Bell with much more authentic Mexican food. Food comes out on a self serve tray if you're dining in with styrofoam containers and foil wrap burritos. Our to-go food came in a brown paper bag with plastic eating utensils, napkins, and a container of red and green hot sauce - very hot sauce! Red much hotter than green. We got back to the motor home 5 minutes away and chowed down. The green chili posole was both temperature hot and spicy hot. I had to let it cool off before I could eat it. It was flavorful! The beef taco was to my liking, with a crisp fried corn shell and seasoned shredded beef, lettuce, and shredded cheddar cheese inside. Not gourmet quality but better than Jack in The Box. Not bad for a $4 taco. Wish I had remembered to add a little of their hot sauce. That could have amped things up a bit! I didn't try the vegetarian taco but my wife said it was good. Overall, the food was reasonable for the $21 we spent and it made being in the storm very enjoyable with rain, Thunder, and lightning filling the sky! read more

The only bad thing I can say about this place is....WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE ONE IN ALBUQUERQUE! :( This place is Amazing. Hands down some of the best shredded beef tacos I have ever had in my life. We went here due to a recommendation. I had high expectations for this location since it's closer to the border compared to NV. I was expecting more authentic cuisine. I got the combination plate with chicken tacos. My first bite of the taco reminded me of Jack in the Box tacos. The flavor was okay. The beans were fine too. I got the pozole on the side, I was surprised when the cashier told me it came in a 4oz container. Pozole was disappointing. Pozole needs the onion, cabbage, Chile powder, garnishes to bring out its true potential. I asked my group what they thought and they agreed it did not meet expectation. We stopped by about thirty minutes before closing based on several reviews and it proximity to the interstate. We were traveling to Pecos for an overnight camping trip. We were expecting a sit down experience, but it was set up for a walk up experience (maybe pandemic related?) Obtaining our meal was a long wait, but we assume that it was our timing and the massive influx of people picking up call in orders just prior to close. The food was well worth the wait! I had a shredded beef taco (crispy shell) and a steak taco on a soft shell. Both were great but the shredded beef I will declare as the winner by far. I was so expecting it to be the steak! The shell was clearly "home made" quality! It was indescribable quite honestly. I can't wait for another chance to stop in, it was that good! My husband had a beef and potato burrito. Last Sunday, I returned to El Parasol on the Dinosaur Trail near Rancho Viejo Boulevard. In January, I had the opportunity to try their breakfast burritos. Unfortunately, I arrived after 11:00 am, only to find that the restaurant, in a move reminiscent of a Micky D's era, had already cut off breakfast items. I couldn't help but feel that this business decision was a misstep. Some individuals would like to demean a flour tortilla. The flour culture is as real as corn. The local brands of tortillas are simply the best. Commercial providers such as multinational Mexican corporation Gruma have moments with their products, but not often with flour tortillas. A poor tortilla of either variety is trash. The flour tortilla is the form and function of a burro. El Parasol's tortillas could not stand up to the heat and moisture. The tortillas were soggy upon construction. The fact that many of a burrito's ingredients are cheap is not fiction. Potatoes are abundant in the marketplace. Eggs, depending on the source, do not require extravagant expense. Depending on the type, Mexican chorizo can be smoked or cured in different ways depending on the locality. Most often, restaurants like El Parasol use the "parts is parts" variety in a plastic tube disguising itself as a casing. Cheap parts, primarily low-quality fats, and expelled chiles. When cooked, fats and color are the primary substances. El Parasol's chorizo excelled in these poor ingredients. The burritos I purchased were dead on arrival and soppy with the greasy seasoned chorizo. It overpowered the green chili. The egg, not eggs, was a small, precooked egg. The potatoes had been sitting around, again precooked and falling apart. At this point, I made my final visit to El Parasol. Three stars for its reputation. read more
