Churassco w/ white rice, black beans and plantains 10/10 ohh this is everything a churassco should be. Juicy, tender and cooked full of so much flavor. The rice was perfect not sticky just perfectly fluffy and not oily and the beans are exactly what I always hope to be served at any Cuban restaurant. Absolutely delicious and full of so much flavor. I came by their new location in Westland Mall today since I was shopping and I was hungry. However, with slow service and nickel and diming (18 percent automatic tip) and smallish portions I don't think I'll be back. Having had a quick workday lunch and walked around the mall, I had worked up an appetite. I was seated in a corner table for two and my order was taken. The restaurant did not seem that crowded even for a Friday night but it felt like a long wait. Unlike many Cuban places, they don't offer complimentary bread. I ordered their "platanos a tentacion" (bacon wrapped sweet plantains), grilled chicken and moros. The rice was a little hard and the chicken breast on the small side and barely seasoned other than the onions garnishing it. Service didn't feel very attentive for me as a solo diner. Between finishing my dinner and waiting to order either dessert or cafecito, I also sat and waited until a waitress finally came by. At that point, I just got the coffee and my check. I don't believe I was offered a printed receipt, just the card terminal. I asked if the tip was included and pretty much in time when I was putting the usual tip (trying to be generous with 20 percent) I was told that it was a service charge, and that the tip was extra, but had full amounts starting with 18%. So basically I paid 30% tip for a small portion of food and inattentive service. Looking back, I see that this restaurant had a different name and I had enjoyed dinner at their other location six years back. It's disappointing to see how it has fallen off. Brought my mom for brunch on a Sunday, restaurant was empty when we arrived. We were seated right away. We both ordered Patio sangrias, delicious! We shared a couple appetizers, the stuffed tostones & a tamal. My mom absolutely loved the tamal but the tostones were just ok, would not order again. Also service was pretty slow & waitress did not check on is after bringing the food. It was also very pricey for the small portions. All in all we enjoyed the ambiance, drinks & some of the food. Just be warned that it is located inside of the Westland Shopping Mall and the outside area is just of the view of the parking lot. Other than that, I recommend. Food was really good. I came here after a trip to the vet since we were hungry and we saw they allowed pets. We sat outside and the ambiance was nice, it's attached to the mall so your view is of the parking lot. The service was decent minus a dirty lie, food was mediocre and the dessert was awesome. My biggest gripe with my experience is I asked the server if the tip was included when he showed me the tipping screen and he said no, so I tipped. When I saw the emailed receipt at home, I noticed a 20% service charge was already included, so he blatantly lied and I double tipped. The food was not great. The tuna tacos we had for the appetizer overdid it on the soy sauce and they were very salty. My entree was the sandwich cubano el Moreno. The meats inside of it were very stale. Not worth the excess calories. Perhaps I made the wrong selections, but both of these items were recommended by the server. For dessert we got the lava cake and that was actually really great. The chocolate inside was not overtly sweet. It was nice and warm and tasted fresh. A lot of places will have similar desserts and they taste frozen and microwave heated. Not this one. I really wanted to like this place but the food was not great and I was blatantly lied to in order to squeeze more money out of me. Hubby and I have been here twice. Today was our second visit and it seems like they are trying to rebrand since the logo and menu are somewhat different, though both seemed fine before. Food is decent and service is pretty good, but we likely won't return often because I can't stand this new trend where restaurants are automatically adding tip even to small parties and then asking for a tip as if you haven't already paid one. It's just offensive at this point and this particular restaurant added a service charge of 20% then asked us to choose between adding 5, 10, or 15% tip without making it clear that this was in addition to the 20% already paid. This is not the first place we see this shady practice at, but it is the first one doing it at 20% rather than 18 and it does not matter the party size as there was just two of us. It's not like the place is cheap either. Prices are high enough as it is, so to force me into prepaying 20% tip without knowing if the service justified it and then ask me to pay more tip on top of that just feels like highway robbery. The service was good and we would have tipped at least 20% anyway, but baking it into the cost and then trying to trick customers into paying more tip on top of that is just plain deceptive. I think I may start boycotting places that do this purely on principle and I will certainly be leaving a review about it every time I come across it to help future customers avoid getting duped. Also, I wish I had taken a picture of it, but the churrasco that my husband ordered was either a) not churrasco (he thinks it was palomilla) or b) a really substandard cut of churrasco (I think this is most likely). Originally when they sat us down the table was too small as we are not small people and they very graciously provided us a larger table towards the rear of the restaurant. The server brought his device for payment to our table and rushed us to sign and complete. We added another 25% tip to the bill, not realizing we had already been charged 18%. I'd like to take a moment and recommend our server, Sabrina. After a turbulent start with another waitress, Sabrina took over and immediately turned our experience around. Initially, we waited for water multiple times, waited for our appetizers for about an hour, and had the menus take up space at our table. Was it busy? Not really. Perhaps, the first young lady found her conversations with her coworkers more amusing than actually doing her job. Understandable. No one actually enjoys working. I was ready to never return, when we were lucky enough to have Sabrina relieve our first server from her shift. Not only was she tentative, quick, and really courteous, Sabrina was quick to put in our food items, pick up empty dishes, and be mindful of our time. The food was good with some standout items. The ropa vieja pita tasted like it was prepared with a store bought pita bread dough and smeared with "Wholly Guacamole" from the supermarket. So I came again - (now fully vaccinated) and I could eat happily inside with the air con. See my previous review, I love, Love, love the decor. I came for my birthday treat with my daughter on a Friday at approx 3 pm - we ordered the following.. - Their appetiser - called Platanitos en Tentacion - which in short is sweet plaintains with an applewood bacon wrapped around it served with a five spice syrup. It looked beautiful. I would give it a 6.5/10 - it was too sweet in my opinion and I also think the applewood bacon is too thick to serve with it. My daughter said I like the taste but the consistancy together was kind of weird. The plaintain is super soft and then the bacon is kind of too thick, and a bit rubbery and you are still chewing it after the plaintains has disintegrated in your mouth. The flavour is there though and the idea is innovative. To make it perfect, I would choose a thinner bacon, and ease up on the sweetness element of the sauce. We shared their - Havana Blue Burger - which is 1/2 burger with applewood bacon, crispy onion and blue cheese, with mustard sauce and tomatoes on a brioche bun. It came with fries. It was MA S S I VE - so glad we were sharing. Again the presentation was amazing. BUT the burger is so god damn tall - it is impossible to eat, without, cutting into it and dissecting it. I challenge anyone to wrap their mouth around this baby, AND if you do, please send me a picture. What I did NOT like......I asked for tap water, and we were served with a bottle of water for 1.50 - I asked our server please take this away and she said no, we cannot give you tap water? what? what? what? TAP WATER IS FREE TO ALL AMERICANS.. I AM IN YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AND PAYING FOR FOOD??? I feel confident saying this was one of the best crema de malangas I've ever had. We then ordered our main meal, the Ganster Frita, which was a bust. The frita burger was soaked in the juice, leaving the whole plate watery and the bottom bun completely wet. After biting it, I was utterly disgusted. I have had plenty of fritas before (especially from El Rey de Las Fritas), and they have never been so wet that they ruin your bun. In addition, it was flavorless, which was disappointing. Anyway, our waiter came back and tried to explain that is how fritas usually are, but I was not having it. He politely brought me back the menu, and I ordered the croquetas as he recommended. It is twice as much as the shredded pork burgers we get in Texas, so bigger than Texas-sized burgers. King Salmon: I have a big salmon enthusiast, I get salmon everywhere I go. But this one, it is THE BEST SALMON DISH ever! The presentation is phenomenal, the salmon is fresh and tender, it is at least 8 or 10oz, and at the bottom there is sautéed spinach and passion fruit buerre blanc! Passion fruit burre blanc, where else can you find that?! The combination of all these flavors is heavenly. This dish deserves Michelin stars, it puts all the salmon dishes at those big fancy restaurants to shame. Just go and check out the picture, the presentation itself is an art! Found a gem in Hialeah. Located in a strip mall in West hialeah. Walking in this place transforms you back in time. There is memorabilia from back in the day, old tvs, old cameras, cigar boxes, etc. Let's talk about the food, I ordered the pan con bistec. I've been to this place 3 times the first two times i just had the burgers and loved it but sadly those are the only good items on the menu my family all got different dishes and we all thought the food was disappointing. The worst thing is on saturdays they don't have burgers after 4pm and i had no choice but to get something else, the marisco rissotto it was mediocre the calamari was tough and the risotto was just liquidity long grain rice it was salty. overall the restaurant had great burgers but don't bother with anything else i think they should rebrand as just a burger place, as well as the food was expensive 360$ for a family of six usually our check is about 250$ but it felt, over priced and not worth it. read more

But, nonetheless, it tasted fine. The croquettas are definitely my favorite. I am obsessed with their taste and the sauce they are served with. The guava torrejas are also great. We also tried the ropa vieja steam buns but I did not see the point in these at all. The ONLY thing I tasted was ropa vieja... what about the sauce it has or the avocado?? I didn't really care for this. But like I said, everything else was good. One negative though - after I left, I realized there was a "card fee" on my receipt... was anyone planning to tell me that they were going to charge me this on top of the food, tax and tip??
