The entire time was fabulous - Laura was a VERY sweet, respectful waitress, the service was also rather rapid. That's a big plus. It's location is super nice, calm, serene, even. The food - As you can see, I have a good serving of leftovers I can have in my 3.5 hour ride back home. Parking can sometimes be an issue but there's always people coming in and out. Food is a definitely a taste of back home. Went for the breakfast on a Saturday morning, first time! I would give it high 2 stars. Service was okay considering we were 1 of the 2 tables at the restaurant. A good tell-tell sign for any Colombian restaurant is their empanadas. Not fresh to cook and the pique was one of these old school share the same container + spoon. I think they should simply move away from that. Back to the empanadas, It's not always a bad thing to have empanadas ready to serve, most places do them per order, but that's always a double sided coin (hunger vs. freshness). I would give it a hard maybe to go again, maybe breakfast isn't their strong suit. Who's paying for dinner?! read more

This place was a neighborhood staple. Great food every single time. But, their delivery person literally peed in our staircase before hand delivering our order. Our building manager has the surveillance camera recording of the man peeing in the corner of the staircase, it is a closed staircases so the odor is 100x more powerful. We tried calling the restaurant, and the manager is no where to be found. The act is absolutely disgusting and we can never order or eat here for this reason. What a shame. read more

Hialeah has a host of so many flavors and Don Matias does a great job of offering good Colombian food and really great service. The owners wife always greets you at the door and her smile is present. We had the calenton which is rice and beans mixed with a pork rind , corn cake and eggs with veggies to finish off the meal. The resturant is made for the workers in the area that make this place a staple if your in East Hialeah. The price point is decent and the location is pretty big. As a tired tourist, I was looking for a dinner meal for a semi-large group of 6 that was both close to the Howard Johnson hotel and Latino-inspired, being as close to Cuban as possible. This restaurant did those expectations pretty well. The service here is great. Since we were one of the few groups of people at the restaurant, we got a lot of attention. Good thing I had some Spanish under my belt, since nobody here speaks English. Maybe this created a more authentic experience? They were patient with my slow Spanish/Spanglish though. I asked for the daily special involving the tilapia and they said I couldn't order it, so I guess this is only for lunch and not dinner. Of the menu, I was not very wow'd by the tostones, platanos maduros, plaintain chips, sausages, and chicharrones. The steak, ceviche, and tilapia with tomato sauce were all just ok. What really stood out for me, though not 5-star-impressed, were the beef empanadas. I was a little disappointed by the way the food turned out, given the flavor possibilities in Cuban food, but overall I thought this was a good option for food given location and service. read more

The food was, at best, mediocre with the chicken breast I ordered being paper-thin, very dry and hard and, adding insult to injury, tasteless...even for Colombian food. In the heart of West Hialeah near Palmetto expressway and Okeechobee Road there is a restaurant hidden in a corner in a shopping plaza. It is called Don Matias. They specialize in Colombian and Cuban food. They have great food from their Colombian style burgers soaked in their tangy sauce, pan de bono, arepas to the can't miss Bandeja Paisa. They serve traditional Colombian beer Aguila in a frozen mug. The decor brings out native Colombian style huts and a wooden theme that is really a nice warm feel. As Colombians are big soccer fans they show all major soccer events. It is a nice place to catch a soccer game, hace a casual lunch or nice dinner. Can't go wrong at this place the Bandeja paisa brings fried eggs, chicharron, steak, beans and more. Last but certainly not least comes dessert. I tries the milo dessert it was chocolate goodness with a cream twist a must have! This has been a rewarding find for me and I recommend it to anyone wanting a Latin style comfort food meal. I have been interested in this place for quite some time now, finally stopped by. No Cazuela Paisa, but I made my own with one of the best bandeja paisas that I have had outside of Medellin. The restaurant serves mostly Cali with a lot of coast meals reminiscent of Cartagena and or Barranquilla, but guys the Chuletas Caleñas was like being there again. Everything is made fresh to order, even the arepas! Great service from everyone. The restaurant is hidden from the street and on outside view it hides how big it is inside. My impression was not too good with the service of the establishment. We waited a wile to place out order. Then when we ordered and our food arrive she didn't come to check on us till almost the end. What saved it honestly was the personalized service the actual owner have us. He approaches our table we finished told us a little about their future plans for the place.
