I've been coming to El Pollo Amigo for nearly 30 years, and I'll never forget meeting the original owner, Waldo (RIP), at 24 Hour Fitness and trying the Monster Neal burrito for the first time. This place used to feel like a West Hills staple. But lately, it feels like things have changed -- and not in a good way. When I ordered my usual BB meal with two chicken breasts, two rices, and tortillas, it came with just one small salsa cup. Back in the day they used to just give you an extra one no questions asked .... Now when I asked to get one more "Small" salsa, they told me they couldn't do that -- they couldn't give me one for free and they also couldn't even charge me for a small.... the only option was to buy a medium for $2. Why can't I get another small for a fair price ?? Most restaurants let you pour salsa yourself or at least offer a reasonable option for an extra small. I wasn't asking for something free, just fairness and flexibility. Then came the worst part. When I got home and started eating, I found a piece of metal wire -- like a bristle from a grill brush or cleaning tool -- mixed in with my food. It wasn't foil; it was sharp and rigid. I took pictures because it was honestly shocking to find something like that in my meal. Thankfully, I spotted it before swallowing, hopefully there wasn't any more .. but it's very dangerous. After 30 years of loyalty, I never thought I'd write a review like this. Carelessness in the kitchen and poor customer policies are exactly how long-time customers get driven away. I really hope the current owners take this seriously, both for safety and for the sake of keeping this local gem alive. read more

Classic chicken is served here! Moist, rich, and delicious! Forgot about El Pollo Loco and give El Pollo Amigo a try. The sides were fine, we got the beans (3 stars) and the cole slaw (3 1/2 stars), but the chicken is the star here, solid 4 stars. Waiter with the piercing is SO rude! We have gotten so much food from here, recommend so many people and have done large catering. Was trying to order a 4 piece, all dark meat and was told I can't, fine so I said sell m3 a 4 piece which ever way it comes and a side of 2 piece dark meat which is on the menu for $7.00 extra. She's say, "I can't guarantee that what you will get!" Like what??? Why have it on the menu or just say you are out. The entire time she had an attitude. If anyone were to ask me, what would be the only food I can eat for the rest of my life, it will definitely be the chips and salsa from El Pollo Amigo. Salsa is chunky, lightly spicy and full of flavor. Chips are thick and crunchy and I can get a big scoop of salsa. I wrote a 5 star review for El Pollo Amigo seven years ago. Cannot believe I have not been back till now. The only way I remembered was that I recently went to a friends birthday party and she had food catered from El Pollo Amigo. The next week I took my kids there and fond memories came back. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of my delicious food because I was so hungry but Ildid take pictures of the delicious chips and salsa because I ordered extra. I've had their cheese enchiladas, beef tacos, carne asada tacos, carne Asada fries and carne Asada nachos. Great flavor, great portion, very reasonably priced. Friendly staff, all five stars for me and my family. My kids and I went to do this a bi-weekly thing. I said, absolutely!! Small hole in the wall taco shop with yummy food. I really like their shredded chicken street tacos and usually get them on Tuesdays when they're on special. They are really small and the prices have gone up, but still a good deal and very tasty! They also include a small bag of chips with salsa with your order. It can be hard to get through by phone when they are busy so you're better off just going in to place your order. read more

Located in a crowded strip mall with limited parking, this chicken friend is ready to serve up some delicious grub at a pretty good price. On this particular visit, I went in for a Carne Asada burrito. A pretty good size for under $12, the burrito was packed full of delicious ingredients and the carne asada was marinated well. I also picked up a medium bag of chips and salsa. Plenty in the medium size for two people, and is a steal at less than $2. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. A few indoor and outdoor seating options, or you can simply grab a go. Definitely one of the tastier Mexican food options in the area. Would return! read more

Don't online order here or eat here if theres any chance you'd have a mistake in your order that you'd want to have a reasonable response to, like giving the missing item or a refund... i eventually after a crazy and frustrating experience conversing with the cashier, was able to get a replacement for the missing item from my order because the female cook got involved and made it for me. But the cashier was the definition of unhelpful and would have had me walk away $9 short with no food item if she hadn't gotten involved (thank you to her). Apparently there is absolutely no way to contact an owner or manager too if the employee is being unreasonable. read more

I've been going to the spot a little over 20 years. This food is amazing. I'm probably the best Mexican food in the West Valley. Chicken tacos, I'll meat burrito with Carne Asada, shrimp plate, you name it, they got the best. I don't know why it's taken me so long to review this place, sometime good restaurants, and great food you just take for granted. I highly recommend this spot if you're ever in the neighborhood. I heard from my roommate that they were now open at 6 AM for breakfast. So I decided to swing by and pick up breakfast burritos for my coworker and I. While it was filling and did the job as far as feeding me, it was VERY bland. Even with sausage and chorizo in it, it had very little flavor. My coworker commented that even the salsa couldn't save it. I'm thinking maybe some onion / bell pepper, a little salt & pepper. On the other hand, the service was awesome! They have some various foods here: charbroiled chicken entrees, Mexican fare (burritos, tacos, tortas etc), salads, burgers and wings, various sides, and some bbq meals. Body Builder Meal - Two charbroiled chicken breasts, served with two small sides, tortillas, and salsa. Definitely enough for two people or two meals and the chicken has a nice flavor with the spice used. I usually go with rice and beans for the sides. I love the rice! It's so good. The beans are good as well but the rice is the better of the two. Love the small kick in the salsa which seems freshly made. Chimichanga Combo: Rolled flour tortilla filled with chicken and cheese, deep-fried and served with rice, beans, salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Chicken Strips- Served with fries and coleslaw. This time I came for their all meat burrito. I got the asada and at $14, I thought it was a little small for what they were charging. The burritos I get from Zamora's Taco Truck is bigger and heavier. But when I bit into it, wow!!! The meat was so flavorful and juicy. This place is always prompt and easy to pick up from. The owner is a real nice gentleman and friendly. The grilled chicken, Spanish rice, beans are really good. The grilled chicken with the house salsa is really the tastiest option on the menu. The tortillas were sort of cold and not placed on the grill it seems like. Overall not a bad place for take out. I think they need to also work on the interior to make it more up to date so we can eat there as well. I think they would get a lot more customers if it was modern and up to date in there. read more

This place is a hidden gem! Strip mall chicken joint on the corner of Platt and Vanowen and man oh man once you find it, it's the only place to go. Parking can be a challenge, but there's street parking nearby. Don't think this place is only a chicken joint, while they do chicken and do it well, this place does fish tacos, this place does a VERY decent hamburger, and this place does ribs. Yes RIBS. Great ribs. Get the ribs. They also have fantastic sides, the fries are AH-MAZE-ING. Crispy shoestring fries that are perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw is wonderful. Everything is hot and delicious. Since then, I moved away from this area but every time I come to visit my family I have to order some food from this yummy place. I guess new owners have once again taken over.
