Lex L.

I've been coming to El Pollo Amigo for nearly 30 years, and I'll never forget meeting the original owner, Waldo (RIP), at 24 Hour Fitness and trying the Monster Neal burrito for the first time. This place used to feel like a West Hills staple. But lately, it feels like things have changed -- and not in a good way. When I ordered my usual BB meal with two chicken breasts, two rices, and tortillas, it came with just one small salsa cup. Back in the day they used to just give you an extra one no questions asked .... Now when I asked to get one more "Small" salsa, they told me they couldn't do that -- they couldn't give me one for free and they also couldn't even charge me for a small.... the only option was to buy a medium for $2. Why can't I get another small for a fair price ?? Most restaurants let you pour salsa yourself or at least offer a reasonable option for an extra small. I wasn't asking for something free, just fairness and flexibility. Then came the worst part. When I got home and started eating, I found a piece of metal wire -- like a bristle from a grill brush or cleaning tool -- mixed in with my food. It wasn't foil; it was sharp and rigid. I took pictures because it was honestly shocking to find something like that in my meal. Thankfully, I spotted it before swallowing, hopefully there wasn't any more .. but it's very dangerous. After 30 years of loyalty, I never thought I'd write a review like this. Carelessness in the kitchen and poor customer policies are exactly how long-time customers get driven away. I really hope the current owners take this seriously, both for safety and for the sake of keeping this local gem alive.

The chicken is the star here, moist and delicious - 4 stars!
Scott J.

Classic chicken is served here! Moist, rich, and delicious! Forgot about El Pollo Loco and give El Pollo Amigo a try. The sides were fine, we got the beans (3 stars) and the cole slaw (3 1/2 stars), but the chicken is the star here, solid 4 stars. Parking was easy with a lot in front, service was quick and easy, and the food is no frills and classic. Would definitely come back for take-out any day of the week!

What a rip-off.. $16.50 for 2 pieces of chicken rice and beans ? You've gotta be kidding me... I'll never come back..

hands-down, best salsa ever delicious chips. Food is great as well. Definitely is different from the update but quality is still great super friendly on the phone quick food.

Peruvian Chicken so good!!!

This review is for the takeout Peruvian pollo a la brasa. It's delicious and well-packed with all the spicy sauces. The service is always quick, and the place is clean.

Best chips ever!! Thick and extra crunchy!
Rena H.

If anyone were to ask me, what would be the only food I can eat for the rest of my life, it will definitely be the chips and salsa from El Pollo Amigo. Salsa is chunky, lightly spicy and full of flavor. Chips are thick and crunchy and I can get a big scoop of salsa. I wrote a 5 star review for El Pollo Amigo seven years ago. Cannot believe I have not been back till now. The only way I remembered was that I recently went to a friends birthday party and she had food catered from El Pollo Amigo. The next week I took my kids there and fond memories came back. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of my delicious food because I was so hungry but Ildid take pictures of the delicious chips and salsa because I ordered extra. I've had their cheese enchiladas, beef tacos, carne asada tacos, carne Asada fries and carne Asada nachos. Great flavor, great portion, very reasonably priced. Friendly staff, all five stars for me and my family. My kids and I went to do this a bi-weekly thing. I said, absolutely!! Just give me my chips and salsa and I'll be happy and I'll chase it down with cheese enchiladas, and carne Asada nachos.

Shrimp cocktail with tons of large shrimp. Comes with saltine crakers.

Sometimes business wonder why we support tacos stands or small businesses is because of places like this that lose their essential care. Let's start off with location wise it's very centrally located in the valley so you can get to it fairly quick. Parking was not it's best. It is on Ventura Blvd so street parking is very difficult. They do have onsite parking in the back but there's only about 5 spots only and it seems like most of them are take either by staff or delivery vehicles. Now walking into this place you are def transported into a very lively Mexican culture that is undeniably amazing. I loved the decor and how you just feel at home. They are playing music the whole time loud enough for you to feel the vibes but still be able to have conversations. Now the food let me just say 10/10. I had the mole the presentation is amazing and the taste of it is even better. My fiancé had the aguachiles con mango which he says are also a 10/10. Finally my mother ordered the queso birria tacos which were pretty good as well. The margarita flight was def my favorite, I am not a big margarita fan as they tend to be a bit sweet for my liking but these were actually pretty well balanced and delicious. Overall I had a great experience the service was good. Will def be coming back and will recommend.

We ordered and rated the following dishes: Guacamole: 9/10 HH tinga Nachos: 7.5/10 (flavor was there but most chips were burnt) HH Taquitos papas: 9/10 great flavor and sauce HH steak tacos: 7.5/10 the corn and portion of meat to the taco was very good. The steak a little well done for my liking. Enchiladas verde: 9/10 great portion honestly enough for two to share. Rice and beans were okay. Beans a bit salty and rice was a bit bland. Would definitely come back for the apps and drinks! They also have brunch which looks like fun.

I use the El Torito app, which gives the users many promotional offers, and one is a free birthday entrée each year. The night we most recently stopped by, my significant other and I decided at the last minute to take advantage of the offer before it expired. For the first time in a long time, we dined in the regular dining area rather than the cantina. Our server was Victor, and I noticed another person with him. I asked her if she was training and she said she was. As it turned out, it was first day working at El Torito. Although it was Reina's first day at the restaurant, it was not her first day working in a restaurant! She was a true pro!! Between the two of them, we were taken care of throughout the night. We even had a visit from Sam after I mentioned his name to Victor, and it was so nice to say hi since he was not working the last couple of times I was there. He even made sure to ensure that I had a birthday dessert. The food was prepared well and was delicious. I tried the seafood taco trio and was happy to be able to get a combination of shrimp and mahi mahi tacos. My significant other got the sizzling enchiladas. We also had salads, and overall, it was a lot of food. The manager, Matthew, also stopped by to check on us throughout the evening. Everyone really made an effort to make the birthday dinner special. It was another fun evening with good food and top notch service.

They immediately rebuilt in the same location, but it was only now that we were able to return. I see many differing reviews, mostly 3-4 stars, but I have to say, we LOVE this place. I don't know if their having to rebuild had anything to do with improving what was already great food, but this visit, the food was better than ever. We usually find their rice and beans to be a bit bland, but we never cared because we were too busy filling up on the tacos, chips, salsa and guac... but THIS time... I completely polished off the rice and beans. They really added a lot of flavor to both items. The rice was really flavorful, and the beans really had a nice punch of flavor, too... more than in the past. As for the shrimp tacos, I always get the same delicious, stuffed with loads of shrimp tacos served on freshly made corn tortillas. I avoid their hot sauce cuz it's way too hot, and I nix the cilantro cuz I just don't like it. I still get the chopped onions but ask that they only give me a small amount (they usually put on as much onion as there is shrimp, and that's just too much for me. I do, however, add lots of guac and the milder salsa (the chips salsa), and my tacos are then perfection. The 3 tacos, coupled with the rice and beans, we loved every bite of food we had. I'm so glad that freak accident of someone crashing through their window didn't ruin their business forever. It was a pleasure finding them back in business, better than ever.
