I don't like to reviews chain restaurant but for this one I had to. We have been to this El Torito a few times before and decided to do their HH again. Small HH menu selection on food and drinks. Food on the HH was decent. That's why the three stars. If it wasn't for the food it would have being decent if would have been a two star. It's thier service that made it bad. We were ignore from the get-go. It was open seating and we sat at a table that had table occupied next to us. We waited about 10 minutes until our waitress came over to get our drinks order and another 10 minutes for our drinks and complimentary chips and salsa to be delivered to our table. When we finally got the chance to order some HH food in we were pretty much done. I had to flag down our waitress down every damn time and at the end they ask for 18-20% tip. LOL. Went here for my graduation brunch and te food at this location was to die for!!! Very home made and fresh. Definitely quality Mexican food. Our server Jesus was the Absolute BEST!! Well, as you can tell, my review has drastically changed. This wasn't just one visit that changed it but multiple over the past couple of months. The service has been terrible. It takes more than 30 minutes for a quesadilla to come out and even longer to get the check. Last night our server watched the game on the tv and then disappeared for 20 minutes and the other server couldn't find him and had to have the manager print our check. The drinks have stayed consistently good but the food has severely went down hill. I hope things go back to how they were. read more

We stopped by a couple of weeks ago for dinner, but I haven't had a chance to update my review until now. It was another great experience, so I wanted to leave another updated review. I use the El Torito app, which gives the users many promotional offers, and one is a free birthday entrée each year. The night we most recently stopped by, my significant other and I decided at the last minute to take advantage of the offer before it expired. For the first time in a long time, we dined in the regular dining area rather than the cantina. Our server was Victor, and I noticed another person with him. I asked her if she was training and she said she was. As it turned out, it was first day working at El Torito. Although it was Reina's first day at the restaurant, it was not her first day working in a restaurant! She was a true pro!! Between the two of them, we were taken care of throughout the night. We even had a visit from Sam after I mentioned his name to Victor, and it was so nice to say hi since he was not working the last couple of times I was there. He even made sure to ensure that I had a birthday dessert. The food was prepared well and was delicious. I tried the seafood taco trio and was happy to be able to get a combination of shrimp and mahi mahi tacos. My significant other got the sizzling enchiladas. We also had salads, and overall, it was a lot of food. The manager, Matthew, also stopped by to check on us throughout the evening. Everyone really made an effort to make the birthday dinner special. I've been coming to this location for a while now. Admittedly, I liked it better when the Fry's next door was open because there was way more parking. Now it feels like you have to compete more for a space because it shares a lot with a few other businesses. Not my favorite but what can you do. I orders their Grilled Chicken Taco Salad and I was satisfied. Not only is it a big portion (I made it into two meals), I like the mix of ingredients in it. The crispy texture of the taco shell, the crunch of the pepitas, and the heartiness of the refried beans made me feel like I was making a healthier choice without compromising the taste. We were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. First of all I want to say our server Estela was amazing. She has a great personality; took care of us like we were guests at her home. We ordered the Ignited Fajitas Supreme. Excellent choice. We split the dish which was good for two people. The presentation of the flame at the time of serving was enticing. The shrimp was grilled to perfection with spicy flavor. The chicken and skirt steak were grilled to a tender juicy bite. The grilled steamy veggies were just right and tasty. We also ordered the large guacamole. Estela came by with the molcajete (traditional Mexican bowl for grinding) Scooped out the ripe avocados; added the onions and a shot of chopped serrano chilies to make it perfectly spicy. (Of course Estela asked first how spicy we wanted it. We said the hotter the better. ) We took the fresh handmade tortillas which were grilled just right; spread the fresh spicy guacamole first to keep all the other ingredients from slipping out of the tortilla; next the hot sizzling veggies; some chicken; some shrimp and some steak; Fold it up and enjoy an explosion of Mexican deliciousness. The side of rice and beans were just like homemade. And of course the El Torito sweet corn was a happy added flavor. The chips are so good, not chewy or tooth breaking. Just the right touch of crispness and crunch to hold the salsa. Overall I am so glad we chose El Torito in Woodland Hills for our anniversary dinner. I had forgotten how good El Torito was. It can be a little expensive but totally worth it. Our bill came out to $75.00 for two with two large draft beers Fajitas $32.00 Guacamole $15.00 Beers $9.00 each We were there on a Saturday around 2pm; there was no waiting; it did get more crowded as the dinner hour got closer. This is the best spot in the Valley for a great affordable brunch, awesome daily happy hours and the best bar staff in the game. Both Ernesto's behind the bar are always welcoming and treat you like family. Best bartenders in the game! The bar "Chalupas" are the best and the house Margs can't be beat. Came here on a Sunday anticipating lots of options since it's a Sunday brunch but to my dismay, there were very few selections. El Torito's website indicate seafood selection - there's none in this location. For $37.50 a person, I don't think it is worth it. The food was good like the birria and chile verde but the taco meat (carne asada) was dry. When we walked in, it took 10 minutes for a server to approach us and take our drink orders. And what's weird was-our server gave us 3 stacks of pancakes and we didn't ask for it. They were good but I thought it was a tactic so we get full fast and therefore eat less from the buffet selection. C'mon - we came here to eat Mexican food not pancakes. The ambiance was great but they need to clean the restrooms. They were dirty. Also when I got my bill, I was charged for a surcharge. It's not that much but I've never been charged a surcharge. Excellent restaurant. One of our favorites here in San Fernando Valley. We came here yesterday, on Friday dinner. We had a reservation for 16 people. The restaurant is big, so although they were a lot of people, you still have privacy and a lot of space. I am a mother and so when I was deciding on a place for Mother's Day brunch, I chose El Torito. I have not been here for years but they always have great food and great service so I thought it would be the perfect location. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!! I will never return especially for Mother's Day. I made reservations almost 1 1/2 months in advance. Even with reservations, we had to wait over an hour and a half. When we were seated, it was on plastic picnic tables and chairs placed randomly in the middle of an isle. There were absolutely no food, no plates, no drinks. Everything was empty and there was not enough staff to replenish the items. We were there 4 hours and left tired, hungry, angry, and exhausted. And it's not cheap! The manager even made the comment "Mothers day weekend is hell weekend for us.". SMH we paid $500 and feel like we flushed this money down the toilet, a waste. Oh...and their bathroom was a mess an no toilet paper. read more

My husband and I decided to go to out for an old school dinner. We have frequented El Toritos since the '80's from Marina Del Rey to now Canoga Park. We ordered the famous Cadillac Margaritas and were disappointed with them. The drink comes with a full shot of Grand Marnier but what we received was what looked like a shot that they split between the two of us. I asked the waiter what happened to the shot and he stated 'that's what the bartender gave'... 'he told us the bartender said the glass is big so it's half'... I'm like WHAT????? Even the waiter was surprised. Then to top off our evening the quality of the food has gone down hill as well. What a disappointing evening... will probably not go back.
