The pollo bowl, with chips and a drink was $5.00, or $5.41 with tax (that's before receiving the $1.25 cash back). I used to love this place and have been a frequent customer since it opened. Prices are very reasonable and food tastes fresh. Their biggest issue is constantly being out of chicken. Yes as in Pollo, the main main ingredient. I've left several times and gone to El Rey instead. EPL is closer and more affordable, but often out of posted menu items. The portion size of the chicken breast is very small so either order extra or plan to eat light if you get the 2 piece breast and wing meal. Ella is getting more fast food options. If the road wasn't already busy enough, we get another restaurant. They did the build out of this place fairly quickly. I drove down Ella one week they were under construction and a few months later boom there was already a line of people. I came in here for lunch with my co-worker. We split the family pack which had 8 pieces of dark meat and 3 sides (special - usually only 2 sides). We got the mac and cheese, corn, and cole slaw. The chicken itself is decently flavorful, it's fancy rotisserie chicken in my opinion though. Out of the sides the only one that was good was the corn. Definitely not need to order. The cook the chicken well in advance and let it sit there and dry out on the grill on the cool side. When you order your food they take the dry it out chicken throw it on the grill heat it up cut it up and slap it on your plate. I felt like I was eating a leather shoe. First time visitor to EPL. I ordered online. That was easy enough. My order was ready when I got there so I was pleased with that. When I got home I was amazed at how fresh and hot everything was. The chicken is juicy and flavorful. The thing that impressed me most was that the skin was crispy. It's rare to find crispy skin outside of a fried chicken place. The tortillas and sides were also hot and seemed fresh. The charro beans in particular were really good with a deep smokey flavor. I was eating at this place (multiple locations ) a lot over the holidays. They had this quesadilla with beef (like pot roast) I really enjoyed. Of course today i realized that has been discontinued. They are really obsessed with chicken (not all of us want chicken btw ) so I ordered a beef tostada since that's the ONLY beef item on the menu. Ordered chicken nachos for my husband and a coke plus small chips and queso all from the curbside. Got to the curbside and a lazy person in a truck is parked there and inside eating I assume (I can't stand when ppl can't read and do this ). I mentioned my online order the employee jumped into asking me what I wanted , I did want another soda (thinking my soda I ordered online was ready) plus some chips and guacamole. I got those items I ordered at the drive thru and asked the employee where my online order was and repeated my name, I heard someone in the back say my name and the man said "that order has already been picked up ". He admitted someone STOLE MY ORDER. They tried to offer me a chicken tostada and the man and I said at the same time that I did not want chicken. They had to remake our entire order that some selfish thief stole(why are they not verifying ID's on takeout orders?) and then I wanted probably another 10-15 mins for them to remake my order. This whole location is a bonafide mess! Incompetent people and thievery. Yes , they remade my order (I haven't checked yet to see if it's what I actually ordered ) but this will be my last trip to EPL, I may also forward this to corporate. I'd never been to a El Pollo Loco before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's basically diced chicken bowls/burritos/tacos. But I found my bowl to taste really good. They have good spices in the food. I liked that you could grab your own salsa with your side of chips, and I also used some of it in my bowl. The green salsa was pretty delicious. The interior is very fresh, new, and nicely done. They did a good job with the inside of the place. My only dislike was that the staff seemed a tad unprofessional. I mean... I don't want them to not have fun at work, but it seemed just slightly out of hand with how much chitchat and crosstalk there was going on with all the employees.
