I typically visit the Layne's on Shepherd and had never visited this particular Layne's before. In the future, I'd probably skip this location because, in my view, it just doesn't live up to the standards quality-wise that I expect from Layne's. Not sure how people who visit Layne's in College Station would rate this location, but I see a few differences between the Shepherd and Ella locations. The Shepherd location has decent parking - you could easily drive around to the parking lot to eat if you wanted to. The design of the Ella location, however, makes that more difficult. We do like the drive thru "tunnel" at Ella, which has a really cool mural featuring a chicken dressed as an astronaut, lol. Cue: Cibo Matto's "Know Your Chicken." The issue is: once you leave the drive thru, you only have the option of driving on to Ella, and it's the stretch of Ella near 610, which is always super busy! We drove back to a side street, but you also have the option of sitting at tables outside. If there's an issue with your order, like there was with mine, and you're not sitting outside (it's too hot anyways), you then have to drive back around through the drive thru and back on to Ella. This is a hassle. On a different note, I will break everything down by numerical ratings:: 1. Toast - 1/5. Totally burnt. Dark brown color. 2. Gravy - 2/5. Tepid, no flavor. Whataburger's gravy is better. Haha 3. Layne's Sauce - 2/5. Usually good, but flavorless here. 4. Fries - 4/5. These were good but the oil the fries were fried in seemed old. Also not many fries in the box. 5. Tenders - 3/5. Fried kind of hard, not juicy. The toast was so bad - I just broke off a small piece. So I couldn't really enjoy my lunch. At first, the cashier at drive thru apologized. Then she reversed course and actually had the nerve to say this is how we make the toast here. No ma'am, you are straight up lying, lol. Cue: Montel Jordan's "This Is How We Do It." Hahaha. Seriously, you could have just stuck with the apology and re-made the toast (which they did), but arguing with customers after an apology about poor quality is wild. No Thank You. This was my 1st time trying Layne's. Decided to give it a try after a couple of friends recommended it. We weren't impressed. Ordered via their app for pick up. The pick up timeframe was about 20 minutes (not too bad). We got there a couple minutes early and it was ready for pick up (awesome). FYI - they share their drive-thru with the Halal Guys. We ordered a 5 & 4 Finger Meal (did 1/2 regular and 1/2 spicy on the 4 meal) and a side of potato salad. The food was a little cold by the time we got home. For comparison, we usually get Raising Canes, that's located across the street from them, and their food doesn't get as cold. Their strips and French fries were salty. Their fries were also oily and also tasted stale. The sauces we tried were just ok (Layne's and Honey Mustard) nothing to brag about. Lastly, their potato salad tastes like it was bought at a local Kroger. I had high hopes for this place but ultimately felt let down. I hope y'all have a better experience than us. read more

Intro: Layne's Chicken Fingers started in College Station and is easily described as a Raising Cane's or Zaxby's competitor. I've been twice, both for late-night meals. Service (4/5): This is fast food so service isn't a big part of the experience. It's mostly a drive-thru spot so you know the drill. You also have the option of ordering at their outdoor window and sitting at one of the few picnic tables outside. I've done both. If you're doing the drive-thru, make sure you don't miss it. It's pretty narrow. Ambiance (4/5): Again, a fast-casual spot so ambiance isn't a big part of the equation. With that being said, I like how Layne's looks, and I appreciate that there's an option to sit outside in addition to the drive-thru. And that they're open late. Drinks (4.5/5): No alcohol here but they do have two of my go-to non-alcoholic beverages: sweet tea and lemonade. You can't go wrong with either. Food (3/5): Since they're all similar, I'm going to have to compare them to Cane's and Zaxby's. What I like about Layne's is that they have a more diverse menu than Cane's. Unfortunately, the food just isn't as good. The chicken tenders, the core of the menu at all three spots, is not as flavorful or crisp at Lane's. Neither are the fries. So this place has a drive through and a stand where you go up to order with tables to eat at . The food here is nothing special it's pretty low quality hot chicken that's not that hot . The prices here are not worth it for the food that's not high quality and Does not have alot of flavor to it . As others have mentioned, this location does not have any options to dine inside. The primary way to get a meal here is drive-thru but there is also a window and a few tables outside. I got the 5 finger meal and loved it, I might even say that I thought it was better than Canes. The sauce was more peppery and the breading & seasoning of the chicken was perfect. The only reason that I'm not giving five stars was because the customer service was so-so and can't stand when there's a tip screen at fast food places. I lived in Houston three years before checking out Layne's, which was my mistake. I've been back twice in the last month, but times ordering a chicken finger meal with fries and toast. Both time, the chicken was juicy, with large pieces of quality meat. The fries were crispier the second time (a must for crinkle cut) and the toast was just fine. This is certainly personal preference, but I wasn't fond of the Layne's sauce because it's pretty peppery, but they have several alternatives to choose from. I've visited Layne's in College Station as well as Layne's in Katy, and enjoyed both greatly! So I was thrilled to learn that the long-awaited location on Ella had opened. My excitement grew when I pulled up and saw a Halal Guys employee eating at the Layne's. Clearly, this Layne's was the place to be. I liked that Layne's packaged the food in a cardboard box rather than the styrofoam we see so much elsewhere. And the Layne's sauce had that bold, peppery taste just like all of my other visits to Layne's. Layne's also gives you plenty of sauce in the five finger combo. You can go all in with your fries and still have plenty of sauce left for the fingers. That aside, I was pretty let down by my visit. Unlike the other locations I've visited, there is no dine-in space at this Layne's -- it is just a drive-thru and a few picnic tables. The Texas Toast -- my favorite part of a Layne's combo -- lacked the saltiness and butteriness that can make it so good. The tenders from this visit were unmemorable. I expected that the arrival of Layne's to the Loop (well, basically) would replace Cane's as my official chicken tender vendor. But the outstanding Layne's flavors, which are in no shortage at the Katy Layne's, were lacking here thus far. I thought I'd like a thicker toast for the texas toast but this one did not disappoint. The sauce was amazing. It was a bit more BBQ sauce-y than cane's sauce and had a bit more heat. Unexpectedly, the fries were the star of the show. Super crispy on the outside, and super soft on the inside. We originally had an error with our first order. The sauce that is comes with is very similar to Cane's sauce but with more pepper. I actually thought it was better AND they give you a generous amount of it.
