We had an unofficial Bite Club meeting at The Waffle Bus recently and I'm not gonna lie... this was some big back behavior lol. Between the group we ordered two HOT Chicken Thunder Fries, the HOT MESS fries, three orders of the jumbo chicken tenders and waffles (two hot honey, one plain), a full order of mac and cheese, and the Cheeseburger Fryders. It was a lot of food and somehow it was all hot, fresh, and honestly really good. I love a sweet and savory combo when I'm expecting it, and this place definitely delivers. The waffles reminded me a lot of classic Waffle House waffles and the tenders were huge and actually seasoned well. The loaded fries were seriously loaded too. Lots of sauce, lots of meat, and we definitely didn't feel cheated. We were stuffed and still had leftovers. The only thing I personally wasn't crazy about were the Fryders. I think mini waffles as buns would've been better, but they weren't bad and my friend scarfed them down. Service was quick once we ordered and the staff was super chill. They let us sit there gossiping and picking at food for almost three hours without making us feel rushed, which I really appreciated. A couple small complaints though. Ordering is only through the iPads so you don't really get to ask questions, and the tables could definitely be wiped down a bit more often. Also the AC could be turned down a little... it was pretty cold in there. That said, the prices are actually pretty reasonable for The Heights. I spent a little over $50 myself and didn't feel scammed one bit considering how much food we ordered. Funny enough we originally tried to go to their Alabama location on Sunday but the line was out the door and parking was a nightmare. My friend literally drove off and told us to cancel. I don't typically like to put a bad review but the owners need to know. It would be a great family friendly place if the workers actually worked. Two times I've been there are people sitting in the corner. Only one person acknowledged me for the two times I've been. The restaurant feels icky. All these people sitting around and they don't clean? Not sure if they aren't clocked in. It's a bad look. Such a weird vibe. prices are insane for a fast casual restaurant where there is no staff to take your order (you use an ipad), pick up your own food, and you are expected to bus your own table. Atmosphere - 4/5 - Located next to Killer Noodle (which we also ate at), it is in a very busy, constructiony area. Inside, very spacious. The only knock is that you must order via a kiosk at the counter (cannot order with a person) Staff - 5/5 - You do not really engage with them other than grabbing your food. However, was friendly when I received my order and gave me my condiments with no issue. What we ordered: I wasn't able to order much, as we just ate Killer Noodle. Overall I would go back and try again, but I think everything taste like a knockoff they all taste good, but I wouldn't bring an out of towner there. What a great experience! I saw Keith Lee review this place and this was on my bucket list for Houston. I decided to try the MacDaddy Biscuit. I didn't want the Mac n cheese but I was glad that they offered an option to put it on the side. They really should have just done a regular yellow cheese, it was not good at all and very disappointing. The very reason why I do not choose to order mac & cheese from restaurants. I also ordered the breakfast burger, but I chose to get that on a biscuit as well, I am so glad that I chose to make that customization because it made it feel more like breakfast. The onions were a nice touch the burger, a little bit of a sweet taste to it overall it was very scrumptious. I definitely recommend my only qualm was that the Patty was thin. Decided to finally try the Waffle Bus. I have mixed emotions about it. When I entered, there wasn't anyone at the front counter. They have it set up at the counter where you can order yourself. Being that I had never been there, I didn't know what the sauces that they had were, so I wasn't totally sure what to order. I think someone was able to tell that I was having trouble, so a nice person came to the counter to help me out. After speaking with her, I decided on a burger and waffle fries. The burger: the bun was the best part of the burger. It was so good. The meat was very thin, but it had a good flavor. Even in saying that, I wouldn't order it again just because the meat was so thin and it wasn't worth the price. waffle fries: well... they were ok. Not great. I also wouldn't order those again. After finishing my burger, I wanted to get a dessert waffle. That's where I should have started. Boy, oh boy... it was so good. I got the Strawberry Irish Creme Brulee waffle. Getting to waffle bus, be prepared for lots of construction on shepherd ave. Also be prepared for limited parking in front of the restaurant. I was lucky to find one spot left. Not sure what you would do if there weren't any parking spaces. If you place an online order, you get text messages regarding the status of your order. When you enter, line to order is on the right and pick up orders are on the left side. Quick and easy pick up. Noticed it was a medium sized dining area. Chicken and waffle fryders were a huge disappointment! Please refer to my photo. Honestly I felt like they just quickly put chicken tenders in between two waffle fries and called it a day. No attempt to make them sandwiched. Could've just been chicken tenders and fries thrown in a box together. Barely any spicy Mayo either. At least the waffle fries in the fryders were a little seasoned. I had ordered a side order of additional waffle fries and they were not crunchy at all !! I was so disappointed in it. I didn't even bother finishing it. TLDR - Honestly, overpriced and I probably would've been better off making everything myself by buying frozen chicken tenders and waffle fries. The waffle was average; it was soft and fluffy but thin and didn't have much taste. The chicken was also just average. I got the hot honey on the side which helped, but I would have liked more seasoning and sauce to give the meal some flavor. I think it could also use a fresh element such as coleslaw to help elevate the dish. The wait times can get really long, especially on weekends, so be prepared to wait. 3.5 edging to 4. Stopped in for lunch with the family. The restaurant is ran very efficiently with kiosk ordering. The food came out very fast. Its a bit small inside, but there was seating even during lunch. The menu has many items that look interesting and made me want to try. Chicken Sandwich with Waffle bun: Wife and son had it plain with Thunder sauce, I had mine Deluxe with Thunder Sauce. It is a good size sandwich, I needed to cut into to eat. The size of the sandwich is about the size of 2 small chicken sandwiches when you cut it into. The waffle "Bun/bread" was tender but lacked a bit of flavor, however the sauce and the Deluxe items more than made up for that. I will say if you order it deluxe it can get a bit messy. The chicken was moist and the batter was nicely attached to the chicken. The only downside to the chicken was that was not super crunchy and it needed the sauce to flavor it up. We all liked the sandwich, and I would suggest that you try it if you have not. However next time I would try the HOT or the MacDaddy. Or you can get some extra syrup and dip you sandwich in it. Cheeseburger Fryders: Sliders that use waffle cut fries as the "buns". These were ok, but would not order them again. The hamburger meat was very very good and flavorful, it makes me want to try out a full size burger. I guess my biggest disappointment was just the cost/value for the sliders. They are more of a novelty item in my opinion. The other Fryders may be a bit better than the plain Cheeseburger one. Seasoned Waffle Fries: Good, nicely cooked and had a good season to them. there was a good amount that came on the medium side. If you are looking for a quick lunch and want something a bit out of the ordinary I say give the Waffle Bus a try. It was fast and the ingredients were of a good quality. The Wings & Waffles dish was pretty good. The wings were plumper than the typical wings and flats you get these days and were coated with a flakey and crispy crust. All of the sauces someone else chose were pretty good. One was spicy and sweet, and the other was creamy and heavy. The waffles had a tasty batter. I liked how the waffles come covered with powdered sugar and strawberries with a side of maple syrup, so you get a dish with both sweet and savory flavors. Since it was delivered, the waffles weren't crispy, but the chicken was pretty hot and mostly crispy. The coleslaw was fresh and covered in a good amount of sauce. read more
