I am a fan of El Pollo Loco! As fast food goes, I like the way that they approach it. EPL grills the chicken right in a huge grill behind the counter. You can see exactly how it is done. I know this is preference, but I like grilled chicken rather than fried and breaded. Their marinade is pretty good too. The sides that they provide are fairly substantial and wholesome. Corn on the Cobb for example rather than canned corn. They include tortillas with many of their meals. I almost always go with the coleslaw and beans. My kids like the corn on the Cobb and the mashed potatoes. All that aside, the salsa bar is a huge draw for me. Fresh serrano chili peppers, red salsa, picante or guacamole salsa go great with a chicken coleslaw burrito made right at my table. Their churros are a little doughey... It has been quite a while since ordering from this location, and now it's my last. This location is rude, unwelcoming, no common courtesy, no acknowledging customers, and their chicken is burnt, dry, and poorly cut. Their thigh cut is the chicken oyster( meat on the back) connected to the spine. If I had seen the chicken before leaving the restaurant I would have definitely asked for my money back. The 12pc family meal is almost $50.00, the least the owner of this franchise can do is cut the chicken "THIGH", not the back connected to the spine. The chickens appearance is very poor, it's burnt, dry, and incorrectly cut aside of the pieces being small. Inflation hurts everyone, however as a customer paying almost $50.00 for "legs & thighs", not the breast, at least give me what I pay for, and cook it like you enjoy cooking. The woman cooking may have been the manager, however she was miserable, unfriendly, and no one communicates with each other to be helpful with the customers at all. There was a gentleman waiting at the counter for a long time, and all he wanted was salt. The employee tossed it on the counter, never apologized for the wait, and returned to the back. The lady at the register never smiled, doesn't greet you, she only said, "Are you ready", that's really unprofessional to say the least. She never said "thank you" to any customer, she never interacted with customers to see if they needed anything else. This is the worst El Pollo Loco I've ever been to, and I've visited many in different cities. I'm pretty sure this is a franchise, that said, the owner should care about the customers and train the employees to have common courtesy and great customer service skills. The economy is very bad, food prices, housing, and lack of jobs everywhere. Franchise owners should appreciate customers spending money that is from long work hours, and tight budgets from trying to survive the economy. The employees should appreciate the customers, and management should appreciate their job and customers. At this point when situations like this arise, you realize why corporations are investing in kiosks, and robots for their restaurant businesses and other businesses. More employees like the ones from this location should think about the fact that people are being replaced by robots. No poor customer service, and the robots are trained to be courteous, so customers don't expect a smile when ordering, they're not human. The employees from this location should visit fast food restaurants that already have robots doing everything, and only "ONE" employee on sight. Take a trip to the Bay Area to see how the robots are being useful to save money, no employees, low overhead cost, no WorkComp, and you'll appreciate your jobs. One day you may wish you had your jobs, and realize it wasn't such a hard job after all greeting customers, showing common courtesy, and a smile is always appreciated. As for now, your management and owner need to be trained in customer service skills so they can teach you, the employees how to be courteous, welcoming, and actually care about your job and the customers. Your location lacks all of the necessary skills to work in a restaurant where you interact with customers, and common courtesy should come to you naturally. Good luck with your futures. read more

Go here about once every two or three months to meet up with friends for a sit down lunch. Typical "fast food" seating and decor. But the food really is good. I usually get the taco bowl and I am very satisfied with it. If the location was closer we might go more often. The counter staff is very courteous and friendly. Paid $11 for one of the salads it was supposed to be double protein. The other salad was the small ones that came in the tortilla bowl, $5 !! The larger salad by money had less chicken than the small one. We had to pick out the chicken and throw it away. It was so disgustingly dry it was like saw dust in your mouth so dry I couldn't swallow it. 7/27/2022 - Today was the worst experience I have had here. I haven't been here in awhile, in fact, this is the first time I have been here since they started inside dining again! When I walked in there was no one at the front, one staff member hurried by the cash register and told me someone would help me in a minute, so I stood there and I caught her looking back; then a young man appeared. He took my order and I looked over at what used to be the salsa bar. He then told me that I would have to order the salsas when my order came. I went to the self serve soda machine and got my iced tea. I looked around for a place to sit and could sit anywhere because there was only one couple there. My order came and that's when everything fell apart. I asked for the following: (2) pico de gallo, (2) avocado sauce and (1) roasted hot sauce. He ran around looking for the hot sauce and said they didn't have anymore, then I asked for the Serrano peppers, he looked for that and came back and said that didn't have anymore. I said "what?!" I turned around very upset and sat down thinking that I made a very bad decision to come here. I should have gone elsewhere. Well again, I will not be back for some time. Then, I looked at my tostada and it didn't look like it used too. I know for sure the tostada crown was different and then I broke off a piece and yes, it was different. Also, the salsa was watery. I know EVERYTHING has gone up in price, but it doesn't mean cut out the value of your dishes. Plus, it was a little too warm in there. I felt a little air come out. It is still summer and I know this franchise makes enough money for air conditioning, and you can set it to go on off & on in intervals. For the amount I paid, I was seriously thinking that I could have had a nicer dinner. My double chicken tostada with extra avocado and drink was almost $17.00. This location reeks customer service. I placed a mobile order for 12:15 PM. I arrived and told the guy upfront. I asked him if I can have a side of cilantro since I wasn't given the option in the app. He was like, "You need to pay for cilantro." "Since when? The cilantro has been free when it was offered at the salsa bar" I stated. He replied in an aggravated voice, "MA'AM, you NEED to pay 0.44 cents for it!" He had a rude disposition. I asked to speak to the manager after this. The manager corrected him and said that, "We only charge for Cilantro dressing, not cilantro." I have been eating at El Pollo's for years. Usually on a lunch break from work. Either in Sac or here in Stockton since they are always close to my office. They are usually consistent and offer a wide variety of items that usually seem healthier than your average Mexican fast food place. Sala bar is fresh, and adds flavor to the food which is usally on the blander side for Mexican food. I usually stick to their bowls, which they change up from time to time and often have them on special. Right now they have a crazy good deal going on until 8/4.. A bowl, two tortillas, and a small drink for $5. You can't even eat at home or bring left overs for that price! I used to love their crispy chicken tacos which they took of their menu. Their creamy cilantro dressing is tasty and they also make in a lighter version which is served in packets. It tastes great with their salads. read more

If I could give this place a zero or a negative number, I gladly would. One and a half weeks ago I went to this location in the drive-through. I ordered two chicken and cheese rolls. I also ordered a drink and a burrito. I only received what was supposed to be one chicken and cheese roll, but I did not notice it Until I was halfway up the road. The chicken was old and dry and it turns out it was not a chicken and cheese roll at all. It was a chicken avocado roll that was filled with gristle are cock cartilage. The rest of what was supposed to be meat was burned and looked to be throwaway. I called and spoke with a person who claimed to be the manager. I explained to her that I did not receive a chicken and cheese roll, and there was only one in the bag which turned out to be a chicken avocado. She placed me on a long hold and then came back to the phone to tell me that she went through the cameras and saw where they placed two in the bag. I told her they did place two items in the bag plus some nachos but they did not place two chicken and cheese avocado rolls in the bag. She proceeded to argue me down, and I told her that I need a refund. she promised that she would process a refund, but then said that she wanted me to come in and see the video footage. When I told her that I could not believe that, she's arguing with a CUSTOMER, over an order that wasn't even complete and yes, it did have two items in the bag but the total order number was three items. It was also unbelievable that she alleged that she was going to refund me for the order that was missing but to date she has not. I told her in terms of coming to look at the video footage, if I am ever in that area again I will, but because this is the second time that CUSTOMER SERVICE has been subpar, I doubt that I will ever stop at that location ever again. I have initiated a dispute with my bank, because after calling to see what the status was of the refund there seems to be no one who knows about what I'm speaking. After going in this location the first time I went there, it is a wonder if the health department has not paid them a surprise visit. It is also baffling to me why OSHA has not been in there. But of course, that will change as I have also made a call concerning their cleanliness, and the lack of safety measures with grease all over the floor and trash. read more

I vowed to never eat at another El Pollo Loco because of this location right here. My mom sends here me to order some food for the family and gives me her debit card. Her debit card is a temporary one while she waits for her permanent one to come in the mail. I walk in the place, place the order, and now comes the time to pay for the food. I pull out the debit card and give it to the cashier for her to charge it, she swipes the card, then looks and it and squints her eyes a little bit. She then turns to me and asks to see my ID, so I of course give it to her. The cashier then says "per company policy, any debit cards that don't have a name on it being used by someone else we have to destroy." I tell her to "wait! that's my mom's debit ca......" and before I can even get that completely out of my mouth she takes out these big f*cking scissors and cuts the card to piece right in front of everyone. Mashed potatoes are literally like wall paper paste (no, I've never tasted it!) Corn seems like all skins and nothing inside the kernel Chicken pieces are small and not a lot of meat on them. Enchiladas were tasteless...had to exchange the first order because the cheese was not melted!! For the $20 I could have purchased 4 rotisserie chickens from Costco!!! BEWARE this place will give you the wrong order and won't provide a refund. I ordered on the mobile app for a curbside pickup, the employee gives me the wrong order. Of course, I am back at my house before realizing the employee gave me some random guys order. I mean really how hard is it to match the name on the tickets. After every excuse in the book, the restaurant says they will refund my payment......but they don't. First it was, it will be 3-5 business days, then it has to be refunded through the corporate office so it will be a week. Then the manager is sick and we will call you tomorrow. Well it's been a month and a half and I still haven't received my refund or a call from the manager.
