Lately the food hasn't been as tasty as it use to be. Came here a few days ago to try the tri tip burrito. The meat was chopped huge and was very tough. I had heard great things about this restaurant so when I was in Ventura I decided to order on-line and pick up for my family. Ordering on-line was easy...food was ready when I arrived. They have a family meal with chicken and tri tip and it was awesome!!! We also got a bowl and extra tortillas. Everything was amazing! Food had tons of flavor and quality of the meat was excellent. El Pollo Norteno has been a family favorite for decades. The flavor of the chicken and tri-tip has been perfected and is consistently good and fresh every time. We always do a takeout order of the Family Pack that includes 1 whole chicken, 1 tri-tip thinly sliced, plus 16oz containers of salsa, beans and rice with half corn tortillas and half flour. My family and I decided to order take out from this location. This past weekend my brother ordered a combo number 5. We called in the order. When we got home and opened the plate, it was missing the the steak. When we called them to notify them that an error was made with his order, my brother was rudely accused of lying. He was asked to return with the order which my brother didn't mind doing. When he went in the "manager" a tall heavy set man who took my brothers order originally helped him again. He didn't bother to take accountability for their mistake. He accused my brother of lying and responded with a sarcastic attitude. As a manager he had no sense of professionalism and customer service skills. Their food is usually great however after this experience I wouldn't recommend going to this location. i work in an elementary school and while our staff filled in the tables at wood ranch, our cafeteria ladies always opt out for their own gathering.....el pollo norteño. one of the children from school said it was their family's favorite place to go. i began asking around and it seems it's very popular with the mexican population. i figured it had to be good. the menu is simple and i've had it all. the chicken is okay but the tri-tip is fantastic. one poster said the plates come with rice, but all of mine have come with beans. you can order a side of rice, though. the quarter tri-tip is my favorite. it is so juicy and tender. i let the juice run into the beans and pinch it all with a corn tortilla. i've only been to this one and it's the old keeley's coffee shop that fronted the skyview drive-in when i was a kid. read more

There are a few of these small chain chicken and tri-tip restaurants in Oxnard, this is the only one I've been to. Very simple review,because it is a very simple establishment. There are only two main dishes you can find here, wich I find a little funny, cause I'm used to choices, but I see why they did it. They specialize in roast chicken and tri-tip. It is this "specializing" technique that provides customers with excellent flavor on these two dishes. Your choices are, well... chicken or tri-tip... or chicken and tri -tip, oops, make that three dishes, lol. But both are good, the chicken is tender and has a great skin to it. The tri-tip is seasoned well and always tender. Most dishes come with a side of rice, corn/flour tortilla, and salsa. I suggest to get extra rice and I'll explain later why. I would have given this joint 5 stars, because they tend to be very stingy with the rice that comes with it, about 2 tablespoons worth, not nearly enough to make my little burritos with the meat :-( So order an extra side of it. Plus it does get a little pricy for the portions they provide you. That for me(price) is never really an issue since I'm willing to pay for tasty food, plus it's just me & my lady. But if you have a family, I can see it getting pricy. Don't let that be a deal breaker, because it's still a decent joint worth peeping out at least once. Eat well friends.. read more

Love this place!!! I was taken here not so long ago and fell in love! The food is always so yummy! Personally, I've noticed that coming around noon is the best time to get a piping hot plate of food! I say that because I've stopped by around various times and its not as hot as around noon time. The only thing I sort of dislike is the fact that there is a charge when you ask for an extra salsa cup! I was honestly shocked the first time I asked for one and noticed the charge as I was waiting for my order. I got the 1/2 tri tip 1/2 chicken combo, but next time I think I'll forego the chicken and just go with all tri tip instead. The chicken was pretty dry but it had decent flavor.
