The fajitas came in a sealed aluminum tray with two guacamole salads, the tacos and rice in separate containers. Everything was really tasty, the portions were generous, and I especially liked that the salsa they included was a little spicy. The waiters were quick to answer a couple of questions I had for them. Friendly, too. A nice place I look forward to revisiting.

We were there after the lunch rush so there weren't a lot of people and the service was impeccably fast! I had their popular Texas ACP which was shrimp, steak and chicken over Spanish rice and then topped with their white cheese sauce! It was delicious and fresh. The shrimp had a nice snap to them and not overcooked! I liked the cheese sauce but would order it on the side next time because it was too much for me. Bonus is that this was the special of the day so it was $1 less than the menu price! The salsa brought to the table with chips was my favorite, but the salsa's at the bar were excellent too. Gotta love salsa bars! Will definitely go back to try other dishes in the future, yum!!

LET'S begin with the positives:…read more 1. The steak tacos and the cheese dip with Mexican sausage are AMAZING! 2. Susana, the server is very attentive. Now for the sub-par: 1. Oh, let me just unleash an overwhelming tide of despair and outrage over this wretched experience I endured! The horchata drink, which I so foolishly believed would be a heavenly elixir of delight, instead tasted like the murky remnants of flavored puddle water! My taste buds, once vibrant and eager, were left gasping for reprieve--NO, this is NOT good at ALL! It is a travesty to the culinary world that such a desolate concoction exists! 2. And as if that atrocious drink wasn't enough to shatter my spirits, the restaurant had the audacity to impose a credit card fee of $1.15 on every single customer! How infuriatingly unjust! This illegal practice in South Carolina sent me on a desperate quest to the ATM, fumbling for cash like a prisoner seeking freedom, just to escape this grotesque charge before they would begrudgingly revoke it! 3. But wait! The universe wasn't done tormenting me just yet! The manager, a veritable tyrant cloaked in rudeness, stood as the final nail in the coffin of my joyous evening. And one of the employees--oh my soul, I can't even begin to describe the offense! With a physique that resembled a poorly built tank, all back and no grace, had the sheer audacity to mock me for being "broke," as if her existence was some pinnacle of achievement! Little did she know, I glide through life in a $70k car while she scrapes by on a pitiful $3/hour plus tips! The irony is almost laughable if it weren't so tragically sad! I am left in utter disbelief, engulfed by a whirlwind of emotions--a storm of indignation--over this most dreadful encounter! This has been an absolutely devastating restaurant experience, one that has shattered all my expectations. While the food had its moments, the overall experience left me heartbroken and disillusioned. I can't bear the thought of returning to a place that operates in such a morally bankrupt manner. I will not stand idly by; I will shine a light on their illegal actions and make sure that their wrongdoing is exposed for all to see.

This town and the adjoining town of Swannanoa was hit terribly by the hurricane in Sept 2024. They are really trying to get some tourist to come back . They need it. When you get off the exit go left and check out the adorable little town. Lots of boutiques and from what I can tell. This town has lots of little art stores and shops and really nice people. Come dinner time, we found this place. The menu was large and the staff very accommodating. The food was delicious. My husband and I have zero complaints about our food or experience. This was the first place I've ever been that served warm bean dip with your chips. It was delicious. I can't wait to go back. Go visit Black Mountain and show support by shopping and eating there. Take a drive up the mountain too. I'm already planning big to go back !

I had cheese enchilada and they were very good. I am a lover of sauce and do wish they had a bit more sauce. The chili relleno was very yummy . The food came out really fast.. And the service was great. Wish I would have gotten the young man's name who helped us. He was blonde with a nose ring and very sweet. Everything I had was so yummy I had to take a flan to go I snuck a little taste and it was yummy. A bit strong in flavor but I am looking forward to eating that as soon as I get back to my room. Margaritas are great as usual, Not sure I've ever really had a bad Margarita. As long as it has tequila, I'm a happy girl. All in all, this was a great stop and I would highly recommend.

Great Road Trip Stop on the Way Back to Charlotte…read more After an epic day exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, I found myself rolling through Shelby on the scenic route back to Charlotte. Traffic through town was moving slower than expected thanks to the endless stoplights, but in this case, it worked out in my favor because Papa's & Beer appeared on my right just as my stomach started demanding attention. The restaurant itself is bright, colorful, and festive. The dining room is filled with vibrant Mexican décor, colorful tile accents, booths and tables, and plenty of personality. They had a FIFA soccer match on the TVs, which was fun to watch while I ate. The volume was low, captions were on, and it added energy to the room without becoming distracting. One thing worth mentioning: it was pretty warm inside during my visit. There were fans running throughout the restaurant, but the air conditioning seemed to be struggling. It wasn't unbearable, but on a hot North Carolina afternoon, a cooler dining room would have made the experience more comfortable. The menu is huge. Tacos, quesadillas, seafood, combination plates, house specialties--you could visit several times and still have plenty left to try. I settled on the Carne Asada Combination, which came with grilled steak, Mexican rice, refried beans, salad, and a cheese enchilada. Before my meal arrived, my server brought complimentary chips and a warm bean dip that was downright addictive. One of the highlights was discovering their salsa bar. Nobody mentioned it to me, but curiosity paid off when I saw other guests gathered around it. The selection was excellent, with everything from tomatillo salsa and creamy sauces to chile de árbol varieties that brought some serious heat. As someone who loves spicy food, I was in heaven. My only criticism was that the salsa bar temperature seemed off. One container had a large chunk of ice floating in it, and a few of the salsas were colder than they should have been, which diluted the flavor a bit. The entrée arrived quickly. Portions were generous, and there was no way I was finishing it all after attacking the chips, bean dip, and salsa bar. The standout was the cheese enchilada. Loaded with melted cheese and packed with flavor, it was easily my favorite part of the plate. The carne asada was also generously portioned and cooked well. The rice was the weakest link for me. It needed seasoning and lacked the rich tomato flavor I expect from Mexican rice. The salad was also overdressed, although mixing some of it with the rice actually improved both. One small annoyance: I requested a side of white onions and later discovered there was a $1.50 charge. Not the end of the world, but I would have appreciated a heads-up before it was added to the bill. Service was friendly and efficient throughout, and when I left with a very full takeout box, the cashier happily provided a bag for the road. If you're passing through Shelby, stuck in traffic, or heading back from the mountains, this is a solid place to pull over, grab a cold beer, enjoy some chips and salsa, and recharge before the drive home. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. Keep exploring and find the places that surprise you.
