We had 3 different drinks and the mule was our favorite. She had the two taco plate combo with the brussel sprouts. Tacos were great but the brussel sprouts stole the show for her. I had the Cali burrito which seemed a bit small but in the end the flavors were fantastic and the size filled me up perfectly. The last time I ordered food here (in photo) I got the chorizo, the lengua and the azada tacos. Each of them were delicious and had cilantro and fresh and grilled onions as toppings. On the side the tacos came with really good salsas, fresh cucumber slices and radish slices. The meat in the tacos are super fresh and grilled to perfection and the tortillas are also fresh and perfectly cooked. You can usually find them right outside of Advanced Auto Parts on Warren H Abernathy hwy in Spartanburg. If you love tacos and Mexican food then you have to check them out. Our booth seat was broken -- when I slid slightly to one side, it suddenly released and tilted, and I almost fell onto the floor. I caught myself, but it definitely made the experience uncomfortable. Our server seemed very busy, which may have contributed to slow service. We had difficulty getting drink refills, and after finishing our meal, we waited quite a while just to ask for the check. The drinks themselves were smaller and seemed to have less alcohol than what you typically get at other local Mexican restaurants, yet the prices were similar. Overall, it felt like you get less for the same cost elsewhere. Wow, we made a great decision trying Mama Juana Latin Fusion. We had an outstanding experience. We chose to try the empanadas (1 cheese, 1 chicken, and 1 steak) and some cheese dip with chorizo. Both were exceptional. Full of flavor. My wife and I agreed to split 2 entrees, and that was another good decision. I had the Cachapa with shredded chicken, and she had the Venezuelan Arepas. Neither of us had ever had these dishes, but both were amazing. We were stuffed, but no way we couldn't take a desert home for later. The flan and the Tres Leches were both AWESOME! I ate at Mezcal many times because it has a convenient location, but after a while, it was clear that it's kind of a bad restaurant. Service is usually fine-to-great. That's certainly never been the problem. I've dined in and gotten taken out multiple times and have never gotten bad service. Sadly, I can't really recall a single meal that I've actually enjoyed. Mexican food is supposed to be bold and flavorful. It doesn't necessarily need to be spicy, and often times it isn't. One thing it simply cannot be is bland. Unfortunately, Mezcal's food is almost unbelievably bland. To make matters worse, they don't actually have any hot sauces that add spice. I've had more than enough meals at this restaurant to conclude that it wasn't an off day. It simply is the reality of this restaurant: good-to-great service but terrible food.
