This local restaurant in West Akron is under new ownership and is now called Los Cabos. Inside, it seems more open and brighter, and it's very clean. We had a quick, delicious dinner that started with frozen margaritas offered in two sizes, plus there's a pitcher option. The chips were good and served with a generous portion of salsa. I ordered the lobster quesadilla and it was the perfect size and had great flavor, and came with classic Mexican rice and a small salad, which is my favorite combination. Service was friendly and prompt. The decor is a little bland for a Mexican restaurant, but the music was upbeat and a good volume. We noticed the staff doing a little dancing at one point, very festive! The restaurant has a large parking lot that could use repaving. read more

El Rancho is one of my go-to restaurants because it's so close to home, you know what you're expecting, it's quick, and if you want to get a little tipsy they have plenty of margaritas to go around! I'm vegetarian and my favorite things are their cheese quesadillas and chalupas. I love a chalupa! My boyfriend tried their hamburger the other day which honestly should be called "everything but the kitchen sink" because it had every possible topping on it. read more

It doesn't look like much, and isn't the most elegant of places, but El Rancho is always my go-to Mexican Restaurant. Their food is great, but their service is even better. Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel like family. I eat here constantly and have never had any problems. They even stayed open through a power outage and accommodated their customers properly. I looked at the menu on yelp and found an enchilada dinner I wanted. I call El Rancho several times and it never rang just a message that the mail box was not setup. So I drove to the location to order in person. The hostess couldn't seem to locate the dinner that I saw on the menu because there was no number on the yelp menu that I saw. She finally found it on the menu but it was more than 50 % higher. I order the combo 2 chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. When I got it home it was ground beef. I don't eat beef! Be very careful on prices and check to see if your order is corret before you leave the premises. read more

In a gist: gosh darn good. El Rancho replaced the failing Yocono's much to the neighborhood's happiness. They did a fantastic job really sprucing up the landscaping (thank you) as well as the interior of this restaurant. It now looks like an asset to the area instead of a blight. It looks like someone actually gives a damn here, which I really like to see. I dropped by to pick up lunch to go earlier this week, my stomach has been acting up but I was desperately craving Mexican food. While I'm from Texas, I don't claim to be the best evaluator of Mexican food, but I do know that the best way to judge the overall quality of a place is by their tamales. If you can't do a simple food well, the rest of your food is probably going to be pretty bad. It's the Mexican equivalent of roast beef and mashed potatoes. If you can't get those right, I'm not letting you try to feed me anything else. Tamales were solid. The masa was clean and fresh tasting with a sturdy texture, the shredded pork was spicy and flavorful. They were topped with enchilada sauce and cheese, which I actually considered licking my plate. Whoever is in back clearly knows what they are doing in the kitchen. And I can appreciate that. Since then, I've also tried the chicken chimichanga. It was a touch too salty for my tastes (but most restaurant food is too salty), but the chicken was fantastic. Came with rice and beans, guac and sour cream. Definitely a filling lunch for under $6. read more

We went to the original location once again. And I ordered the same dish I have previously .... With the exception of having it served over lettuce -- instead of with tortillas. My daughter ordered a burrito combo. Well... 3 tables of four guests got served before we did and it was very upsetting. We've had good service prior to this visit and it really upset me because the waiter didn't come over even one time to apologize or offer an explanation why our food was taking so long. It had been 40 mins and like I said--- 3 tables of four ppl that got their food before us. So we walked out. I don't understand why this happened and it really disappointed me. I would prefer to give a 2.5... 0 for service---a seriously 0. We waited and at every point during this visit once sat. We waited for our waitress to acknowledge us, we waited for our drinks, we waited for refills--which we had to ask for! Never offered to refill the chips and salsa. Waited for the check as well. The saving grace was the food. I had the verde burrito and the pork was delicious. The pork was flavorful and had a nice crisp on the edges. My son enjoyed his fish tacos as well. My office is located nearby, and whenever we want to do a big office gathering, we always come here! The food is excellent, and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. The dining room is large, and there is a back dining room that can really hold a crowd. They would prefer you make reservations for big groups, but honestly, you can walk in with a group of 20 or more and they can seat you within minutes usually. And they can manage large groups well - some places always seem overwhelmed and things get messed up but here it always goes smoothly. Give them a try! read more

I have yet to have a bad experience at El Rancho. The wait staff has always been extremely nice and helpful. Our food has always been at minimum good to exceptional. I've probably tried almost half of their extensive menu at this point. My go to is still the Fajitas, but I've loved the chimichangas ( crispy, not hard), tacos, quesadillas, tamales, enchiladas, queso, bean dip, salsa, and of course, the margaritas. Everything has always been very fresh, the portions are more than generous, and all in all, it's pretty affordable. We've tried some of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, but keep coming back here! read more

This is my go-to lunch spot to grab margaritas and catch up with my gals! I wouldn't venture to say that the food is anything outside of your typical Mexican restaurant fare, but I absolutely love the staff and atmosphere. The lunch prices are fair and the margaritas are STRONG (beware if you have two). I tend to order the burrito de fajitas, which is their fajita meat and veggies in a tortilla topped with queso. We've eaten here several times at the suggestion of a friend, and it quickly became our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Akron area. The wait staff is very nice (there's a younger male waiter who is ludicrously cheerful and fun every time we see him) and the service is prompt without being overbearing. I'd recommend the fajitas over the burritos, unless you're really into cheese sauce (which I am not), and while all the drinks I've tried have been good I have to suggest sticking with the classing margarita. You are at a Mexican restaurant after all! We've gone at varying times throughout the day and while there always seems to be someone in there, the place has never been packed or overly noisy. Not impressed. Came here for lunch today with my husband. The food came out literally 3 min after we ordered, weird? Ordered the chicken and beef quesadilla combo. The plate looked nice, but when I started eating I realized the quesadillas were stuffed with shredded chicken and beef, that appeared to taste exactly the same. Our server was cocky- never made eye contact, didn't listen to what we ordered, chewed his gum, etc. He mixed up everyone's waters 2-3 time! Placed my daughters order incorrectly, twice! Good chips & salsa- perfect spice level! Food was the worst I've had in as long as I can remember! Fajitas were cold and not sizzling. Beans & rice were mediocre, at best. Gauc was horrible. Ordered a tamale & it never came. I would not return or recommend to any one. Can we say TEQUILA!!! Holy fall on your butt after drinking a pitcher of margs. This place makes them strong. Margarita with your tequila anyone?? I'm not joking and I don't play around with my margs but if you're looking for a strong drink- this is your place. It's amazing how much longer is lasts because you need to pace yourself with water after every drink. Service here was great too. I'd say borderline on too much friendliness but hey, it's better than horrible service which is what the normal seems now. Food also was fast but again, it's mexican, it should be pretty fast. Sub par all around. They try to rip you off when you order specials. The bartender is as creepy as creepy gets.... Ask for an itemised receipt...otherwise you may be paying for something you never ordered. Shady all the way around. You could go to Chipotle and get better food and service. I have to update as I don't want bad karmathey actually got rid of the bartender that was so creepy amongst other things.... Now there is a wonderful bartender who is on point. Another bartender found it for him, then he poured a double shot of Seagrams, and served it to me, neat. Actually funny a bartender thinks 7&7 means a double shot of whiskey. Should have left while I was ahead. Ordered fish tacos. Three red snapper tacos and a side of yellow rice arrive in a few minutes. First thing I noticed was what appeared to be cole slaw on the tacos. I was expecting cabbage, but actual cole slaw? On a taco? Only in a place that can't make a 7&7 could this happen. This is in our neighborhood and we keep returning - at least once a month usually. Only one bad experience but that still didn't deter us. We started when it first opened and changed from Yoconos years ago. Back then, Friday and Saturdays they hosted authentic music - mariachi style. I'll start by saying we have a toddler. We go here because we know that the food is quick, always correct, hot and decent. The servers are nice - my toddler likes to flirt with the guys and they humor her. I have ordered everything from enchiladas to fajitas to burritos and have not been disappointed. The margaritas are strong enough for me and I've been known to leave a bit tipsy. A plus in my book after a rough day! We always order the queso for our warm chips and the salsa is fresh and served right upon seating. Most fajitas I see come out with the sizzle. (So I'm not sure of the previous review of "unsizzling" fajitas...) Crowd is everyone from regulars from the neighborhood, families with kids (presumably here for the same reason we are), 20 somethings, to older singles at the bar. The entrees were well flavored and a good portion size. We had ordered the flautas and chipotle chicken fajitas, which I recommend. The magaritas were strong, but nothing special. Second visit here, I love giving second chances, but no better luck. Showed up on Father's Day with my family, and wish I had chosen another restaurant. Probably 30 people in the restaurant and the staff, except for an incredible hostess who might as well have been our waiter, were unable to handle the small crowd. Service was slow and they forgot multiple items. The steak in the fajitas was tough and dry, contained very few veggies, and the chicken was in chunks the size of my child's hand. They first refused to make some guacamole for my vegan friend (they admitted theirs contained cream) however changed their mind after talking with the manager and brought out probably the worst guacamole I have ever tasted. We stopped in for the first time after they had been open for just a few days and I have to say I was surprised with how nice the restaurant looked and how good the food was. We have been back 6 or so times since and I have not had anything I haven't liked. The service is also very good. My drink never sat empty and I've never left hungry!
