El Campesino is a pretty decent full-service Mexican restaurant located on busy Cleveland Avenue NW in Canton, Ohio. The restaurant includes a full bar which is accessible from inside the restaurant proper but also has a separate entrance from outside. There are plenty of comfortable tables and booths at which to sit while you dine. The menu is pretty extensive, check out my photos for the entire eight page menu. Upon being seated we were immediately brought chips and salsa. I asked for some queso dip to go with the chips as well. The salsa was pretty ordinary but the queso dip was very delicious. Having not dined here before I asked the server for suggestions. He recommended Molcajete which I enjoyed. It is steak, chicken, shrimp and vegetables and cheese served in a mortar which appears to be made of volcanic rock. The liquid in the mortar was boiling when I received it and continued to boil throughout most of my meal. The dish is accompanied with rice and beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole salad. It is served with warm flour tortillas. It's a whole lot of food for $14. My wife and my mother both ordered El Campesino Fajitas which is beef, chicken and shrimp cooked with onions and bell peppers. It was accompanied with all the same items as my Molcajete. My father ordered the Quesadilla Supreme. It's a huge flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, chopped beef, onions and vegetables. It was accompanied by rice, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. Everyone enjoyed their food. The portions are huge so we all had enough left over for another meal the next day. Prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed my entree but to be honest I found it to be a little bland. My wife felt the same about hers. I added lots of delicious hot sauce and some black pepper to enhance the taste. The service was excellent throughout our visit, it was very fast and friendly. Our server was very attentive from start to finish. 3.5 stars founding up to 4 for the exceptional service and great value. read more

Is it possible for a serving size to be too large? If so, my chicken fajitas would fall in that category. Could have easily fed 2 people if there were more flour tortillas and condiments. Not really complaining, just an observation. Overall it was very good. Chips were a bit plain, but salsa had a nice kick. Could have used more cilantro and onions to fit my taste, but not bad. Imagine frozen guac heated in a microwave. It's difficult to ruin tort. chips and salsa but campesino managed to do it. I would not feed this stuff to an animal; I love animals! Would not eat here free. Americanized frozen food microwaved. Used to be, 20+ yrs ago, Campesino on Lincolnway E. was pretty good, but I lived in SoCal 3 yrs, have eaten at 100+ Mex rest., so I know what's good and what's authentic. My friends and I are regulars at El Camp's in Canton. Especially my friends! They spend boatloads of money there! We patronized the restaurant this afternoon and were met with some very rude, short, and argumentative service. It was very out of the ordinary and I didn't like it at all! Oh, and the wait time for service was crazy! My food wasn't even as hot as it normally would have been in past visits. The price increases on simple things like a tortillas and salsa is nuts! I'm cool on this place for a while. Seems like when Ernesto isn't there, the staff is rude. I'm cool. I still gave a little tip, despite Maria's rude attitude. I won't be back for a while. My boyfriend found a hair in his food. And when we delivered the message they were rude as fuck and we had to ask them to remove it from our bill. Then they acted like we were lying about it. This is a solid choice for Mexican food. They have great salsa and chips as a starter. The fajitas are delicious, but so is most everything on the menu. I don't care for their guacamole dip, though, as it's a bit too soft for my liking. But the cheese dip is delicious. They are also open late on the weekends, which is a nice touch for people who work later. They have plenty of seating, both booths and tables. The parking lot offers handicapped spaces, which is nice. It also would be a good place for a large group as they have large tables that can be pushed together. It's worth checking out if you are in the area and have a craving for some tasty Mexican food. read more

Super disappointed, ordered lunch here today for pickup, ordered a Fajita Quesadilla, went to get it and got back to work and it's just a quesadilla filled with chicken and beans. No fajita veggies and no beans were supposed to be in it. There is no cheese at all. (see pictures of menu and pics of what i got) Tried to call the restaurant twice, nobody is answering. Definitely won't be ordering takeout anymore, there is no way to check my order before I leave and now i'm stuck with $10.00 of food I can't eat. read more

This place is terrible. The tables were sticky, the floors were dirty, and the utensils had some brown, sticky stuff on it. The staff were extremely rude. Whenever I asked for something, my waitress made it seemed as if I were bothering her. When entering, the lady who greeted us cared more about being on her phone than customers. The food wasn't all that great. Extremely pricey and the portions were small. You are not getting your money's worth. I will definitely not be returning to this place. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, very authentic and the quality is great. The food is always delicious and fresh. If you dine in, you get unlimited chips and salsa. My only complaint is when I get carry out, no matter how many meals you get, they only give you a small bag of chips and a tiny container of salsa, and to order an extra chips and salsa it costs more than you think it should. read more

I had stopped visiting this restaurant because of bad experiences at another location. I decided to give it another try because I was craving Mexican food. I am so glad that I did. This location is fabulous. The chips were crispy and delicious and with the salsa made a great appetizer while waiting for our entrees. I had a taco, burrito, and enchilada. The fillings were fresh and generous. They had an authentic taste that hit the spot. My children got the chimichanga which was so large, it supplied 2 meals and one got the vegetarian spinach burrito. This meal was definitely something we will repeat and soon. Although it is a further drive, I'll go to this location in the future to get deliciousness for my money!!! read more

Me and my husband ate here a few days ago. We used to live in the area and it was our favorite Mexican restaurant. This was 8 years ago. We went back again and was disappointed. The first thing I noticed how there were very few customers there. This was a Thursday evening around 4:30pm. Back when we lived in the area most evenings the place was pretty busy, especially around dinner time. I ordered rice and two beef hard tacos. The rice was good but the beef was extremely dry and there was bits of steak in one of the tacos. The texture was a bit off in that one with the mixture of soft crumbled beef and strips of steak. My husband ordered a meal that he thought would have been good but had so much onion. Inside the soft tortilla, half of it was chopped onions. He said the meal was edible (aside from the pile of onions he had left on his plate) but he would not eat there again. We do not know what has happened to the quality of the food over the years but we were really not as impressed as we used to be. read more

I have to say, as far as Mexican restaurants go, I'm pretty darn impressed with El Campesino. I was scheduling a meeting with someone, and I wanted to make sure everything was air tight before I went. On their website, they had their whole menu, the site was actually designed pretty well for a local business, and it was easy to navigate. They even had coupons for discounted meals! (So it's worth a look ahead of time) The decor is pretty well put together, bright and colorful like many Mexican places, where we were seated was pretty chill too; not too much noise or too many other people. The service was quick, salsa and chips the whole time, refills like clockwork. The Food, was really good I'll have to say. In the past I'd go to Mexican restaurants and think "Man, I must just really not like real Mexican food," but this proved me wrong! Perfect blend of spices, and decent portions for price.
