Visited la Mar for my birthday and had a great experience! My boyfriend and I love Peruvian food but we hadn't found any in Seattle yet. On our quest to find Peruvian food here we came across la mar. All the food was amazing especially the coconut tres leches dessert which had a bunch of textures and flavors coming together! The ceviche was fresh and the arroz con mariscos was delicious too. The service was good but I wish they had taken more time to explain the menu and give recommendations. The ambiance was a little dead too, but other than that we had a great time.

    Beautiful interior! Wonderful food!

Hands down my favorite Bellevue restaurant! From the vibrant fresh flavors, to the amazing staff, this will not disappoint! Make sure you check out the Pisco Hour and the Chef's tasting menu! Beautiful, intimate interior just enhances the experience!

We did the tasting experience after getting a date night out for the first time in a long time (we have small kiddos so a babysitter is a luxury)! We started out with pisco sours (mine, a classic, my husband's was mango-y), and they were delicious! The tasting started out strong with a delicious tarta acevichada, which tasted exactly as it looked. We then moved on to our favorite portion of the night, the la cebichuria--a tuna poke of sorts, a fantastic cebiche, and these crab rolls that I'm still dreaming of. Everything had a great touch of spice and paired with the pisco sour perfectly. Next up was the prawns, which were on top of these giant white corn kernels that were very bean-like, and cut the spice of the prawns well. Next up was the pescado al pilpil, a halibut with peas and mushrooms in a butter sauce. I gotta be honest, after all the spice of the dishes that came before it, this was absolutely boring and tasted like nothing to me. (My husband had less harsh feedback but it was still low on our list.) To continue the mediocrity, the duck dish was our main and it was...fine. The fried rice that came with it was fantastic, but the duck was surprisingly chewy and tough. We both didn't love it. We ended with a dessert that was fit for a king (especially after all the food we had before): a bunch of little chocolate tasting bites, and then a weird but fantastic mousse with crispy quinoa I loved. Overall, we had a great time. Our server was lovely, we got everything we needed (minus my husband's third drink which must've hit the height of drink requests because it took quite a while), and it was a lovely experience. When we go back, though, we're gonna stick with the pisco sours and lots of cebiche!

Had a great experience at La Mar! Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. The drinks were just as impressive, well-balanced, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the food. The service and atmosphere made the experience even better, making it a great spot for a date night, happy hour, or dinner with friends. I'd definitely come back again and would recommend giving it a try if you're in Bellevue!

I took my husband here for a birthday lunch and if it's just for the food, I would give it a 4.5/5. The food was excellent with one with one bad part but not enough to deter us from all the other foods. Eggplant dish -berenjena criolla 5/5 -- favorite dish of the day. Love that you can still taste a bit of the fried texture on the eggplant and flavor was nutty, creamy, and citrusy. Achupado 3/5 - this was a good dish, there was a variety of seafood and they were all good except for the octopus. That was inedible. I wished they cut it to smaller pieces so it can be eaten easier or give us a knife but as is, it was way too tough and chewy. Flavors was spot on, I do wish they gave more noodles to absorb the sauce Ceviche tasting - 5/5 love the variety. All of them was fresh, tangy and flavorful Complimentary corn - 5/5 this was addicting Service 3/5 : our server was very knowledgeable, he gave us a little of a tour of the menu, cam check on us a couple of times. However, I wish he would have clearly explained that the executive lunch was for the whole table, not just individual. Also, cleaning our table while we are still there is a bit rude in my opinion, almost feel like they are rushing us out. The place is fancy and very very pricey. Good for special occasions or once in a while splurge.

Fancy Peruvian restaurant. Seafood was fresh and the overall flavors were very balanced My factories included the yuca fries, seafood pasta, and the pulpo - Full of umami flavor and rich texture I didn't like my pisco sour - not eggy or foamy at all. Overall expensive fine dining with extremely professional service (our waiter was really good with introductions and recommendations and I wish I caught his name) and a safe spot for birthday celebrations etc. especially for seafood lovers

Really enjoyed our experience here. Came at 5:30 on a Friday evening without a reservation. There was plenty of seating in the lounge area and we were seated quickly. The lounge was really trendy and perfect for enjoying happy hour which is M-F, ending at 6pm. Food came out incredibly fast. Pisco sours were $9 and cebiches and other apps were $15-20ish which is a deal compared to their normal menu and would recommend if you're hoping to try this place. We also ordered a few items off the normal menu. All the food was delicious, but I will say the portions are quite small. Service and ambiance were both great. Did not give five stars only because I'm not sure the strep price is justified but we did enjoy our time here.

Very nice in terms of everything! We went for lunch here on a Friday. We did make a reservation in advance but it was not crowded, so I would think walking in would be okay too in lunch hours. But this is a really upscale place and assume the place runs at full capacity during dinner hours. There is parking under the building and you can get your parking ticket validated by your server before leaving - so no stress with parking in downtown. Yes, this is an expensive place but since we were here during lunch hours, we were able to take advantage of the Executive Lunch - Set menu for $45 per person. Among us 3 people, we were able to taste everything available in that set menu and every single dish was amazing - like truly, from presentation to flavors, especially the 3 appetizers - so so very good! This is everything we had - Starters - 1. Sunchoke Cebiche - must try 2. Roquitas Nikkei - must try 3. Clásico Cebiche - must try Main 1. Wild Mushroom Saltado 2. Lomo Saltado 3. Arroz con Mariscos Dessert 1. Tres Leches de Coco - must try Service was very well timed. We had an amazing time. Great place for a team lunch/dinner. Location is perfect, heart of downtown but none of the road noise or human traffic. A wonderful add to downtown Bellevue!

Mi novio made reservations here for my birthday in April (I know I know it's a lateee review) and we had an amazing time! So happy to have a Peruvian restaurant on the Eastside! The restaurant is sooo beautiful. When we arrived it was for dinner and upon entering there was no host present. We waited a few minutes but no one came over so my man decided to walk up the stairs to find someone but a server saw him and asked him if we checked in with a host but we told the server there was no one there. The friendly server helped us and found the host to return to their desk at the entrance. Once sat we admired the beautiful decor and beautiful large menu. My man is Peruvian and was raised in Peru so trying a Seattle Peruvian restaurant is always fun and on the list for us. We always order a Pisco Sour and this one here was beautifully presented and tasty! Veal heart is necessary for me to order and wow was it delicious. The main entree we shared was the Achupado which also was super tasty. Food was presented nicely and was satisfying. Definitely a pricier restaurant so don't know if we'll return but super happy we tried it and marked it off the want to go list! Thank you la mar for a wonderful birthday dinner. All the servers were extremely kind, soft spoken, and helpful. We enjoyed a special occasion here and would recommend it for that :)

Beautiful decoration with fresh seafood display up front. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch. The ceviche was refreshing and delicious! I would come back just for that. The lunch set was good and ended with a leche dessert that has just the right amount of sweetness and coconut flavor.

First time here on a whim looking for something different. Sunday night it wasn't too busy and we were able to get reservations booked on the drive into Bellevue. We weren't sure if the prices are aligned with what we ordered. But don't get me wrong, we the food was full of flavor and the presentation beautiful. Would consider this place to bring out of town guests or clients. Very nice, hip, vibe with nice decor. Service was friendly and they checked in on us often. We had the cebiche tasting menu, side of yuca fries, and split the arroz con mariscos. Cocktails were beautiful: pisco and fresa del sol. The stand out was by far the dessert! I would come back again and again just for the tres leches. One of the best desserts we've had in a while... I will probably be dreaming about it over the next few days.

Definitely recommend venturing out of Seattle for a tasty meal at La Mar! Came here as part of a group of 7 which allowed us to try a lot of dishes. While all the dishes were good, the highlights of the meal for me were the Planchaza and the Pulpo Crocante. Service was just as good as the food. Parking is on the street or in the structure (validated by restaurant).

From the moment I stepped inside to the decor and service to the taste and quality of food, I was impressed the entire night. Most bbq places are laid back and loud, but this place is refined, sophisticated, and everything you'd want for a date night or celebration. Starting off with service, everyone we spoke with was lovely and inviting. We felt welcomed and our server kept checking on us, but wasn't too invasive, so we were able to catch up. We were greeted with hand towels and 3 options for water. Cutlery and tableware were nicely set up and I'm obsessed with their plates! I was blown away by all of the dishes we ordered but my favorites were definitely the Uni Toast, Wagyu Volcano, and honestly all the meats we ordered to grill. They grill your meats for you, so it is a bit awkward because the person stands there until everything is done, but it's cooked to perfection! When I first stepped in the door, I was so glad I brought a light jacket with me even though it was 80 degrees outside. I'm not sure why, but the restaurant had the A/C turned up so high that even the people eating next to us had their puffer coats on. Even with my coat on though, I was still cold. The interior is small and modern. However, the tables and menus were extremely and unpleasantly sticky. The soy sauce bottle was also empty at our table. I ordered the HAPPY HOUR CHIRASHI BOWL ($22 which is half the size and price of the usual $44 Chirashi Bowl off their main menu). It came with two pieces of salmon, two pieces of albacore, two pieces of hamachi, and two pieces of some other tuna (or maybe it was mackerel) plus tamago (egg), and Ikura (salmon roe) on top of their signature purple rice. The presentation was nice, but the fish quality lacked. The albacore in particular was so chewy I had trouble biting through it and so I knew it wasn't fresh; I ate one piece but left the other in the bowl because I didn't want to chance it. Regardless, my stomach regretted it later in the evening and the next day... Service was fine, but we had to waive down the waiter both to order and get our check. When he asked if I wanted a box for my piece of albacore, I told him it was too chewy and he said sorry and walked away. Overall, I was unfortunately disappointed by my experience at Kuro. For a recommended place on Yelp, I expected a better environment and fresh fish. Overall: 2/5 for food, 3/5 for service, 2/5 for atmosphere

The chicken kaarage was not particularly flavorful nor did it have much of a crispy skin. Also tried the Cos-no-politan mocktail which definitely had that grapefruit flavor. For mains, I got the bento and the Super Bad Boy roll off the happy hour menu. The bento box has good portions. The contents change day to day, but I got chicken teriyaki over rice, 3 pieces of a crab roll, 2 pieces of fish nigiri, seaweed salad with some small octopi. Everything in the box was decent except the teriyaki, which was a bit rubbery. As for the Super Bad Boy roll, it's one of their fried rolls, and the frying made the roll taste a bit dry. Reservations were made ~3 weeks in advance for a reasonable dinner time slot on a weekend. We opted for the A La Carte Menu option which gave us the ability to order individual menu items while still offering omakase options. Our party of 4 ordered 2 omakase's (nigiri choice), a nigiri set, a salmon moriawase, and seasonal tempura. I personally ordered the omakase and the experience was well worth it with the sushi quality being extremely high. There were ~7 to 8 courses served throughout the omakase experience including 3 courses involving nigiri and the remaining courses involving a blend of small bites (egg, fish cake, tempura, sashimi, miso soup, dessert egg, hojicha ice cream to name a few). What especially stood out to me was the outstanding service that was displayed throughout the course of the meal. Our server was notably attentive and even went as far as switching the presentation of my nigiri courses after noticing I was left-handed so that I could eat from left to right while normally advising guests to eat from right to left. Every time one of us went to the restroom, our tablecloths were folded by our server and placed back onto the table. Tableware was immediately cleared upon finishing a course and every course in the omakase set came with a detailed description of the food you were about to eat and where in the world it was coming from. In all, the great food makes me want to be back soon, but the high level of service for the night completely made the experience that much more memorable.

Nothing stands out though, so you may not walk away "wowed". I think if this was half the price it'd be 4 or 5 stars, but for what you pay, I don't know if it'd crack the top in the greater Seattle area. Missus says it's on the same level as I love sushi - there's nothing special about this place. The booking and setup: One of the missus' acquaintances scored an OpenTable reservation for three. Getting prime dinner spots here usually requires deliberate timing or alert tracking, so having someone else handle the booking logistics was a welcome relief. The restaurant operates on strict seatings (roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes), situated on the ground floor of the One88 building at 180 Bellevue Way NE. We parked at the pickleball / orange theory parking lot - just steps away from the front door. Parking cost was $6.62 for 2 hours. Arrival & room vibe: We were seated promptly after arriving at 725pm. The background vibe is some kind of jazz track (that has gone on the whole time). Bathrooms are individual gender neutral - two at the back. There's 7 seats at the sushi bar, probably 6 at the drinking bar, and a smattering of sit-down tables. Drinks: just still water. I ordered a Mikan ale for $12. The meal (Omakase progression): 23 courses total. Starters / Cooked courses: right to left - persimmon with shimeji mushroom, tuna belly, some kind of snail. The sashimi: akami from Spain, amberjack, yellowtail / blue snapper. Missus liked the amberjack. One more course before the Nigiri! Chawanmushi - with freshwater eel, shrimp, and shimeji mushrooms. Nigiri highlights: 18 pieces of sushi! - 1st: knifejaw bream from Chiba - chewy, - 2nd: chutoro from Mexico (medium fatty tuna): as expected. - 3rd: shima aji - jack mackerel: missus liked this piece. - 4th: shiroi - squid from Japan. Chewy. Definitely squid. - 5th: iwashi - sardine - from Chiba Japan (missus likes the saltiness). - 6th: king salmon belly with onion on top - fatty and nice. - 7th: hotate (scallop) with Yuzu zest and lemon juice - colder than I expected. - 8th: Nodoguro from Akita Japan - missus favourite Tempura break! Fish, shishito pepper, mushroom. Dip into the salt! The shishito is mega spicy - missus is unfazed, but my mouth is on fire. OK back to sashimi (he's cutting more as we eat tempura) - 9th: akamizuke, marinated in special soy sauce, from Mexico. - 10th: kinmedai - golden eye snapper from Chiba Japan - - 11th: amaebi - sweet shrimp - 3 days aged - chewy and silky? - we also got a tempura version of the head, which was crunchy. - 12th: otoro (fatty tuna) - I'm a sucker for this kind of piece. - 13th: kohada (gizzard shad) - the texture and depth of flavour was good in this one. - 14th: Kisu (Japanese Whiting) - 15th: Katsuo (Skipjack Tuna / Bonito) with scallions on top, - 16th: handroll - Hokkaido uni, ikura, shiso leaf, tuna. Dang uni is good. Miso soup break! It was decent. - 17th: anago (saltwater sea eel) - grilled - 18th: tamago - egg - dessert - with hojicha ice cream Service & pacing: decently fast. It's 8:05pm and we're already into sushi. Jun asks if the sushi is rightsized (rice wise). Overall service is good but I'm sitting in the corner so it's kinda awks for the wait staff to refill water, etc. Jun will wait until you finish your current piece before moving on. We fully finished the last course and paid by 9:10pm. The damage: normally $195/person for the omakase, before drinks (I ordered the ale), tax, and tips. They don't auto add tips. We ended up Venmo'ing the person who got the reservation $290 for us two, so that's $145/person? I guess not the worst. Final verdict: variety but less size? Nothing stood out to either myself or the missus. The upside is that we were all full, though.
