Stopped by for dinner around 6 PM. FYI- The restaurant is near a busy residential intersection, but there is free street parking nearby. You can walk inside the building to be seated for indoor seating or there is also a lot of outdoor seating in the back. The outdoor seating area has a huge TV and a lot of tables. Staff are super friendly. There are so many tasty options on the menu. My favorites are the Chicharron sandwich, the beans, pastas, and Aji De Gallina dish. Super delicious Peruvian food! There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The inside feels casual and homey, while the outdoor seating is charming and has a lively atmosphere. I ordered the aji de gallina, and it was so creamy and tasty. The portion sizes are pretty big too, so I had plenty of leftovers to take home. Even though there are plenty of tables, I'd still recommend getting a reservation. We went around 6:30 on a Saturday, and it was quite busy. Went to Don Lucho's to check out their brunch on a Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of tables so we were seated right away. I will say the worst part of the experience was trying to figure out where we were supposed to go when we arrived. The door isn't in the front of the building, so we parked out back, but all the entrances to the patio and building were chained off. There wasn't anyone outside and we almost left thinking they were closed. They should really take down the chains during business hours, or have a sign to instruct people to go inside. For brunch I ordered the Don Lucho's Eggs Benedict and my husband picked the Choripan with a side of fries. Both came out within 20 minutes or so. They were deeeelicious! Loved their spin on a Benedict with Peruvian ham and the hollandaise sauce was perfect. Staff was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Again, just wish their setup outside was easier to navigate. They didn't have ceviche the day we went though :( I'd say the price point was a tad high given the ambience and portions (about $50 after tax and tip for an entree and an appetizer), but the food was beautifully presented, fresh, and cooked well. Causa De Pulpo ($14.50) was a small but pretty dish - the actual octopus slices were teeny tiny but the sweet mashed potatoes were yummy! Pasta Huacina with Lomo ($24.50) was very rich and creamy, and you could specify how you wanted your steak pieces cooked. Ask for the spicy crema! Friendly staff. After previewing the menu I started with a beef empanada and from a taste this was exceptional however I caution this pastry delight was scorching hot so break open and let cool or you'll be savoring the roof of your mouth. Next up was the dish Lomo Salado which is tomatoes, fries , red onion topped with steak. OMG I love this dish it's a real mouth watering experience. YUM! The interior was a colorful experience to match the food but it's the outdoor dining that should make for an amazing summer experience when Seattle gets about 65 degrees. As we arrived, we were greeted outdoors and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We chose outside as it was mostly covered, spacious, and had a pleasant vibe. Before receiving our food we got our utensils... the knives looked like they were not rinsed well before being dried. Not too big of a deal since I didn't use the knife, but still noticeable. The service was quick and friendly. What we ordered: Pisco and maracuya (passion fruit) sour: First time having these and they were delicious, but too sweet for me, and pricey. Lomo Saltado: My husband loved this. The meat was super flavorful, the juices flavored the veggies & rice, and the fries soaked everything up without becoming grossly soggy. Just wish the garlic rice tasted more like garlic. Pasta Huancaina (with lomo): I've had papas (potatoes) à la huancaina elsewhere, and loved them. Having them with pasta here just didn't appeal much to me. The texture was too thick/ starchy. The sauce was blander than I expected. The dish tasted like a generic creamy/cheesy Italian pasta dish. I love cheese & pasta, but I thought this would taste more... unique? It needed some spice or something more. The steak & veggies were the same as the lomo saltado, which was good. This was a tasty enough dish, I can't say it was bad, but I wouldn't order it again. Portion was great (meaning I had leftovers to bring home). Though it looks like any other small business on the outside, the patio area is unlike anything I've experienced! This was such a fun find in the Maple Leaf neighborhood! A couple of friends and I checked this place out on a Thursday night and it was surprisingly spectacular. If you don't read anything else, know that this is in a pretty residential area and nowhere near busy streets or downtown, like some reviews have mentioned. LOCATION & PARKING // On Roosevelt, this place is on the corner of some residential areas in Maple Leaf. I read the reviews and saw that parking was limited. It's true - there are only a few spots available behind the restaurant and it can get tight. However, there are a ton of parking spots around if you just go to the next streets because it is residential. The restaurant itself is pretty open in the front, with the host standing outside. You can choose to sit in the front side of the patio or the back. When I went, no one sat inside and you could only access the inside of the restaurant if you went to the bathroom. FOOD & DRINK // My friend was very knowledgable about Peruvian food so she kept recommending different dishes or drinks. We shared an order of the YUCA FRITAS - my first time. My friend said that she's had better but personally, I enjoyed them! I thought they were interesting since they were different than regular fries. They weren't super warm though but I'm not sure if that's how they're meant to be. I ordered the POLLA A LENA with a quarter of DARK MEAT with GARLIC RICE and FRIES. This was surprisingly really good! I assumed it would be good, but also mediocre and not memorable. This really proved me wrong. Everything was flavorful and I was obsessed with how juicy the chicken was and it worked super well with the rice and fries on the side. I almost never order rice as a side but this was amazing. The first time we got takeout here a month back, we had to wait for our order ~20 mins after the ready pick up time. We had to go up to the desk multiple times to ask them to check because it was so busy that we were worried they forgot about us. The second time we were going to order from here, we tried to use their online website and the site would not let us put our order through. It kept erroring out. We even tried calling multiple times but the line was either busy or no answer. Warning this may happen to you if you call during meal teams. The third time was for my birthday dinner. My friends and I all placed orders here online through the portal, that thankfully worked this time, for the same pick up time. I went there with my fiance to get all the orders and ended up waiting over 40+ minutes for orders to be done after the ready time that we selected the morning of when we placed our orders. I could tell the hostess felt bad but it did not make the situation better. It just felt really awkward standing there. To make it even worse we also ended up with 1 whole order missing when we got home and checked. This was my fault for not checking the bags in the car and trusting when I asked if everything was there. We ended up calling back and they let us know we could come back for it in 30 minutes.... where did our food go???? I have no idea but it was a disappointing experience and at this point I would have expected some kind of compensation. (1+ hour of waiting, having to drive there twice, for 3 orders we placed way ahead of time in the morning (like 4+ hours before pickup time)) The food: Basil & Spinach Pasta with Lomo - This dish is rich and creamy. Kind of a mish mash of stuff. I would say the perfect drunk food meal. 7/10 Fries - Fried Plantains - Fried Yucca - 7/10: All good simple sides. The cotija cheese on the fried plantains was something I really enjoyed. Sandwich - Lomo Saltado: Great and delicious! Flavors that work really well together. 10/10 Huacatay - This was a very fresh sauce, the mint really stood out but I thought maybe it tasted like cilantro (which it does not seem to have in it)... 7/10 Wood Fired Rotisserie Chicken - This is what we go here for. The chicken is fresh, great spices and smoked flavor. A great source of protein. 9/10 because sometimes it is a little dry... Empanada - These are a yummy side or snack to save. The fillings are very flavorful and the exterior is nice and buttery. - 10/10 Aji Amarillo - This is the best sauce in my opinion. I love dipping my fries in it, my chicken in it, everything in it basically. 10/10 Overall, this place is extremely busy and unfortunately it shows poorly through their takeout experiences. We had a few cocktails passion fruit pisco and cucumber mojitoesque to start and we dug right into the yucca fries. Fries were so great - perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside; piping hot! We then had the beef hearts which were little too heavily salted in my opinion - it would have tasted better if it was less salty. The Incan corn piece was an absolute delight. I think the most surprising of the meal were the chicharrones sandwich - it was so crispy and juicy all at the same time. Definitely a must try! Finished the meal with passion fruit pie which wasn't passion fruity but rather a pretty saccharine soggy tart but glad that we got the alfajores because they were an absolute delight, melt in your mouth, the perfect cookie and ending to our good meal.
