I will NEVER eat here again. I don't wanna be that guy to do a nasty review but I took my family here tonight after seeing all of the great reviews. BAD IDEA!!! The food was not that bad until I happened to notice the ground beef in my daughters and wife's taco was raw. I then inspected my own food to find a few nice long strands of hair....not cool at all. This is the WORST Mexican experience I have ever had. First, the service is terrible. Our table had 2 servers, and no one came to check on us or anything until it was time to pay the check. Second, the food was horrible. My husband and I ordered the Texas fajita. His was OK...But mine was dry with NO seasoning, and way over cooked. The plates weren't sizzling when it came out...I guess to keep the food from completely burning. My kid's plates were absolutely disgusting. My oldest girl wouldn't eat, and she rarely turns down food! Everytime I needed something, I had to get up and ask for it. Lastly, The food was also way overpriced. This establishment should be ashamed. I left seething with anger. I go out to eat often, but will not patronize this place again. The leftovers will be going to my dog...If he will even eat this crap. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, you would do better going to Plaza Azteca. The prices are about the same, and the food is by far better, I'm sure the service is too. read more

My family and I tried this restaurant tonight and we all agreed it was great. I had combo #4, tostada, enchilada, taco, rice and beans and it was fantastico for $7, plus a huge mug of horchata, with a free refill for $4, total meal was $11 with chips, good salsa, Mexican music in the background and a football game on. My wife loved her chile verde, plus the kids had Mexican pizzas, everybody was stuffed and happy. All with drinks for $40 plus tip. Our family stopped in after an evening at the Go Kart place across the street. What a pleasant surprise! The staff were incredibly friendly, and everything we ordered was delicious. I highly recommend the shrimp with vegetables, as well as more common menu items like the beef tacos and fried ice cream. read more

This was our first time at El Sabor and we did not think it lived up to the rather glowing reviews. The service was slow and inattentive; our waiter mumbled to the point we could not understand him and he clearly wanted to be elsewhere. At the end, we had to bring him the paid bill since he never came back to retrieve payment. I am from Southern California and am surprised to read that other reviewers from So Cal call this place authentic. It's about as authentic as you can get in this area, but I would not call it truly authentic. I have visited this restaurant a few times simply because it's one of the few options for Mexican food in Williamsburg. It's not the best, it's not the worst. If this restaurant was located in San Diego, nothing would stand out about it that would bring me back as a repeated customer. One thing that did attract me originally is that they serve Horchata, which many restaurants do not. When Horchata is made from scratch and is fresh, it's an absolutely delicious drink. However, I could tell right away the horchata at this restaurant is made from concentrated powder and is more commercialized. During my last visit I placed an order to go for my family and ordered an Horchata for my kids. When I got home, I divided the horchata (it's a pretty big to-go cup) between two of my kids. I have those old fashioned milk bottles that you can find everywhere now. My kids love them since they have a lid and straw. When I poured the horchata and closed the lid, I realized there was a fly floating in the drink. We could see it right through the glass. I called the restaurant to let them know what I found, since that is a health concern. An older gentleman answered the phone and I explained what happened. He said, "Oh just a minute. I'll get someone else to help you." I then heard him tell a woman that seemed to be next to him what happened. He said, "She said she found a fly in her drink." Then she asked him, "Was the fly in the drink before or after she got home?"...and they started laughing. This couple appeared to be locals and spoke fluent English. I thought at first they might be the owners or managers, but then I was confused when they passed the phone to someone else. If they were managers/owners I'm sure they would have handled this themselves, or at least you'd think they would. I could hear them speaking to two other employees, and I could hear those two employees speaking Spanish. I'm fluent in Spanish so I understood every word they said. The male told a female what happened and she said, "She can bring it back." The male asked, "bring the drink back?" and she said "Tell her to bring it here." The way she said it though was as if she didn't believe me and she was "daring" me to bring it back to the restaurant. She didn't seem as if she had one ounce of concern. This is what bothered me the most about this whole thing. So much, that it prompted me to write a yelp review for my first time. It was as if she thought I was trying to pull one over on them, to get free food or something. Finally, the 2nd gentleman that had been speaking Spanish got on the phone and he was very nice and apologetic. However, I really bit my tongue because that other lady really upset me with her attitude. The man on the phone apologized profusely and told me they'd be happy to replace my drink. However, that would be a 20 minute drive and I didn't trust that my next drink wouldn't come out of the same dispenser my first drink came from. I told him I appreciated that, but didn't want to drive out there just for a drink, and I just wanted to report what I found since it is not hygienic. I think at the very least, they could have offered to refund my drink, but they didn't. Hearing the first couple laugh and joke about the incident and the other rude lady, left a really bad taste in my mouth...so I decided I will never return to this restaurant again. read more

I struggled with whether to give this place one or two stars. it started out pretty well. the place doesn't LOOK like much, but we have eaten some incredible food in some cheesy looking places, so we had an open mind. we were seated immediately. and they had Horchata, so that was ordered. and it was probably the best part of the meal! the chips were definitely nothing special but not terrible. we changed from salsa to guac. and the guac was pretty good. had a sweet flavor I have never experienced before, but we ate it all. when we asked for it, from the menu, she asked what size. we asked what the size was that was pictured? she said... oh, that's just some random pic on the menu! we don't have anything like that! truth. so the SMALL was incredibly small and the "large" was what would be a small elsewhere. the food. was NOT good. the hubs had the carnitas, and I had carne asada. NEITHER looked anything like the menu... but then... see previous comment! wow. the carne came out as two flat as a pancake, overcooked, dried out, tough and grisely, "steaks"/pieces of meat. not sliced nicely as I am used to it, and no red or pink at all. the carnitas was also very dry and overcooked. we were both disappointed. the reviews I had read on this place indicated that it was "some of the BEST Mexican food" people had had!?! I am thinking we either ordered the WRONG thing, came on the wrong day, or... these people don't know good Mexican food! read more
