The food was really good. I think the price is a bit steep but everything is on the rise.

Very mediocre. We had a party of 5. Chicken burrito had very little chicken. My chicken nachos were okay, not a lot of flavor. Chicken chimichangas were good but very little red sauce on top. Cost us $95 for very mediocre and that was with everyone drinking water. (They automatically added 18% gratuity). Had to go find the waiter to get our ticket so we could leave. read more

The beef enchiladas could have used better beef than the ground taco meat they filled them with. The Chiles poblanos were crunchy as in under cooked. The solution is to either roast or blanch the pepper before you coat it with the egg whites that were falling off the pepper because they failed to dredge the pepper in flour before they dipped it in the egg whites. The refried beans tasted like the came from the can. The staff was nice. This food is only OK at its best. read more

Came here to celebrate my uncles birthday and I am glad he suggested this spot. We were here during lunch, they offer lunch specials, but we ended up ordering from the main menu. The guacamole was good and I like their chips, so much so they had to bring us another basket. Manuel was very accommodating with my very indecisive Senior Citizens :). I had the chicken enchiladas, and my seniors ordered the Jalisco Tacos and the Taco Salad and the food didn't disappoint. Definitely want to come back to check out their dinner and drinks. read more

When I walked in, I was seated right away at the bar and ordered the alambre. The salsa was pretty tasty and so was the food. The service was somewhat slow despite the fact that the bar wasn't full, and they automatically charge 18% gratuity on your bill. I don't think it's worth it. read more

Our go to Mexican restaurant! Have been here several times and the food has been fantastic and portions generous.

One of my go to spots for margaritas! There's 2 sections available for seating, one being a bar area with high top seating. Which works put perfectly when the place is a bit crowded. Servers are friendly and inviting. Many times you'll see the manager walking around greeting and making sure everything is ok. They're complimentary chips and salsa is pretty tasty! Food is just ok, I'd recommend the chicken tacos when strictly dining. read more

Was very disappointed by the new location. The old location was one of my favorite restaurants in the region and was pumped with the look of the new place. Upon arriving, wasn't even greeted by the hostess, 2 of us got the wrong flavor of margarita from what was ordered, and my burrito came out with the temperature as if it had been in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Upon asking the server for a new one, I got feedback that a cold burrito is the norm and that the sour cream made it cold - what a joke. The server also suggested that I order enchiladas instead - NO DUDE, I ORDERED A BURRITO AND WANT MY BURRITO! I asked for a new one and told him I wasn't paying for my burrito. Upon getting the check, sure enough, it was on the check in full. So sad that I will not be able to attend my old favorite restaurant due to this one brutal experience. Place is a joke. read more

Tough reviews here, but i have to call it as i experienced it. I had a wonderful time with a great server. The atmosphere was typical of a Mexican restaurant! The store was very clean and well maintained. I should note it's new, but the obviously care I ordered steak fajitas without rice and i had it on a regular plate (not a fan of the splatter party). It's was great. Our server was attentive and fast. Maybe not a 5 star place, but the service was outstanding and it's clearly not the 1-star several reviewers gave it. Cheers read more

First time eating El Salto and will probably be my last. The food just wasn't that good I have to say. No flavor and corn and beans were not good. Did not finish eating. Three entrees two pops were 60 bucks. I guess at least I can say I tried it. Going back to my usual in Highland never had a bad meal from there. read more

Disappointed they no longer offer ala carte items. Prices are very high & I don't eat rice and beans so the ala carte items were great for me so that food didn't go to waste. Also three of our four plates & glasses were chipped. Won't be coming here any longer. Also my bill was wrong. Charged me an extra dollar for beans when I didn't have them. A dollar isn't much but if you do that all night it'll add up. Definitely a disappointment. read more

Oh man. I wanted to like this place. I really really really did. I love Simple Greek next door. So when we saw the place lit up last night we figured we'd come watch the Cubs game today at the bar & order lunch. Well, we wanted at least 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us at the bar. No bartender? Hmmmm.... We finally ordered classic Margaritas on the rocks. Nothing to write home about for sure. Out of a pitcher from the fridge. Waited another 10 min for chips & salsa. We asked to have the cubs game placed on one of the TV's. No one, even the manager, knew how to work the TV. Thank God world Cup was on. However, the main intention of our visit was to have somewhere cool to drink & watch the Cubs game. Double fail here. So we decided to just order a quick appetizer & roll out to somewhere else to watch the game. Ordered queso fundido with corn tortillas. They brought us flour tortillas. Quickly rectified. Huge growing pains here in the area of customer service. The kicker of it all? No sooner do I sign my receipt than an employee walks behind the bar & changes the channel to the Cubs game! Lol! Seriously, I hate to say it but I doubt I'll be back. We'll stick to Tomato Bar or DOC's Smokehouse for games & El Amigo or Rancho Grande for good Mexican food. read more

This place was crazy busy, yet the staff were consummate professionals in every way. The food was absolutely delicious, the salsa was spicy and so fresh. The only negative was that the atmosphere was too loud, thanks to a rude table of diners in our area who were too loaded to stomach. Worst experience ever. My wife and I were seated given menus chips and bland salsa. 5 min later 2 ladies walk in and are seated. 10 more minutes, now 15 since we entered, no one came to wait on us. The 2 ladies had their waiter sitting with them and getting their drinks. In total there were about 8 customers in total and the rest of the staff where chilling out by the bar chit chatting and on their phones. Needless to say, we got up and left and no one said anything. Probably the BEST Mexican restaurant in the area! New building, but same great staff and service as before. Generally really busy but super fast at seating you and getting your order to you. Family friendly environment, so it's totally cool to bring your little ones as well as your grandma. I don't drink but was craving a margarita, and we used to go to their old location, so decided to give them a try. It's very nice inside. Very open.. bigger than old location. We were seated right away, next to a party of 6? I don't know.. I just know they were extremely loud!! We weren't even sitting in the bar area.. I could see it if we were, and I could see it if they were drunk. NO! They were just women screaming as they were talking.. OMG!!! We ordered drinks. Margarita was frozen.. not quite.. but ok. Hubby ordered cranberry and vodka... WEAK!!!! Ordered the Queso dip for appetizer... it was ok. I ordered the Bistek El Salto for my meal. FANTASTIC!!! And a tamale on the side.. it was ok. Hubby ordered the steak & chicken fajitas... skimpy. Be careful... they add 18% gratuity to the check. In these times, I guess you have too. I asked hubby how much he was giving her and when he said $10 I was like no way!! Not on $90 bill, so he gave her another $8, and then proceeded to tell me the gratuity was already added, he was giving the $10 as a little extra. I heard about this place many times but never ate here, I ordered the chimichanga and it's not a chimichanga but 2 Walmart frozen little burritos deep fries covered in sour cream lettuce and rice and beans on the side clearly not a chimichanga The Rice and beans are good! It's a nice atmosphere but the food I had just not what I imagine what a (chimichanga) is, a chimichanga to me everywhere I've ever had Is a made burrito without the produce and it's sealed and deep fried, this isn't even filling, I could have easily deep fried 2 of them little frozen burritos they sell at Walmart geez and there's only 2 of them little things lol never coming here again would not recommend to a friend It's like a burrito place I visited recently they served a steamed flour tortilla With half the ingredients lol I returned it and left, went to Taco Bell instead, El Salsa I was to hungry to return it; I mean it sounded good! I was starving but HELLO get a cheat sheet of what the dish is supposed to resemble and don't leave out or substitute an authentic Latin dish and call it Chimichanga when it's not it's 2 El Montera burritos from Walmart I love Spanish food and go to places and give an honest opinion. Don't recommend going with more then 10 people tried to go out for a family birthday and do to not being able to make reservations by phone had to walk in and get out on the waiting list waitress said 25 min then 30 passed and went back inside and the waitress made a mistake and let a family that came in after we did go first and do to her mistake my family had to wait a literally hour for her mistake so we had to go to another restaurant that DOES have RESERVATIONS this place is really good but the waiting is outrageous and waitresses should pay a little more attention and should look into reservations read more

We use to order to go once a week (the carnitas are my favorite) but since they moved I feel like the quality of food has really gone down. The last time I ordered, was my LAST time ever! I ordered to go, went and picked it up and when I went to pay my total was $53. Something was wrong.... The name was right, but the order was WRONG. The hostess(whom is always there) said she didn't have my order and told me "I must have called the Schererville location" Now, I was confused. Did I? Nope, I repeated the number I dialed and she confirmed it was the correct number. So, I'm not sure how I called Schererville. Anyways... Now I'm waiting for my order to get put in on the fly. My bf likes the fact that they turned him on to Mexican food in the first place and he likes that they have dos esquis dark. Probably misspelled the beer. Ordered large lunch for office to go from restaurant, missing one person ordered. Contacted restaurant, Manual insisted he put order in the bag. Asked for manager, Manual says manager not there. Only offered a replacement lunch. Because I'm more than 30 minutes from restaurant, I asked for refund. Then spoke to Norma, who's insists cook fixed the food and Manuel put in bag. Looks great when you walk in and have had great service here prior but it's time we move on abs try our old place for Mexican food again ...the servers at the bar obviously does not know how to put orders for the same couple in together ...and as EVERYTHING was delicious! We had a dinner here for my moms birthday this past Sunday and had 20 of our family and friends come out for the special occasion and it was absolutely embarrassing. First, they had one of our tables separated from the rest of the party because of how their servers are set up. Julianna the manager explained they are not allowed to move tables and seemed annoyed that we even asked. She did state that they could not accommodate a party this big even though the manager who took the reservation said it was no problem. During our actual meal, one of our guests cut their lip on a piece of silverware that had metal slivers. The server quickly took the fork and never returned with it. Juliana came over and asked if there was blood and inquired why didn't she look at the fork before using it. She then annoyingly stated she would take the meal off but then did not. Another one of our guests received his meal 20 minutes after dinner was served, the server apologized and said he would take the dinner off but again he did not. After we received the $400+ bill we asked about the 2 meals that were supposed to be taken off, Juliana stated she would not take them off. She took the bill and would not give us a copy of the bill because she was "unable too". My dad being nice just paid and didn't want to cause anymore issues on my moms birthday. Overall this was a terrible experience and clearly we will never go back to this establishment. I do have to say the bartender working that Sunday night was very nice, understanding and accommodating. She was apologetic about the experience even though she was not involved. This would be the only reason for 1 star if not it would be zero. read more

I was skeptical about trying this place because of the reviews, however glad I went. The service and food was great. The manager, Frank, checked on us several times throughout the night making sure we were okay and that our food and drinks were okay. My friend could only taste the purée in the margarita. Without hesitation Frank said he'll be right back and walked right over with a shot. Frank asked our opinions about different specials they could incorporate. Not sure why the other reviewers had a bad experience, and maybe things have been corrected since first opening, but I enjoyed it and I will definitely be returning. read more
