One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. I saw the young chef (professionally trained) and his mom on the local news and wanted to try it. I'm Colombian born and raised. Food was tasty and fresh. Soup was very authentic and hot which I really appreciate, (there is nothing worse than a cold soup), I'm a picky rice eater since it is my favorite food and they surprised me because it was actually really good, it reminded me of my childhood back in Colombia. Loved this place!!! I was born and raised in Ecuador and definitely enjoyed the food here! I am an encebollado addict and this one hit the spot we also had a amazingly fresh ceviche with large shrimps. The way they make the ceviche is probably my favorite, super light and flavorful. This place also has pastries, Quaker, and sodas/juices from home. Very authentic. I will certainly be back for more!!! read more

We drove 2hours from Lancaster, PA just to eat at this restaurant and it was so worth it! They serve traditional Ecuadorian Cuisine and it was excellent! We ordered the empanadas verdes and the sweet plantain with cheese as an appetizer. We ordered a passion fruit shake and a soursop shake and they were amazing! We ordered catfish soup and ceviche de mariscos and fried tilapia with rice and salad and tostones. Absolutely amazing!!!we will definitely be back!!!! read more

I got some takeout from El Sazon De Dona Eva yesterday and it was disappointing. Latin comidas are delicious and I wanted to live in the Caribbean for dinner. I ordered 2 empanadas, beef and chicken, Carne Asada which came with rice and beans, sweet plantains and a salad along with some flan for dessert. The empanadas were small, they fit in the palm of my hand. They were in lack of any flavor or spice. The Carne Asada was a small, flat piece of dried out beef again with no flavor. The rice was nice, but there was not enough beans and the beans covered about 1/3 of the rice. What am I going to do with all the leftover rice. The accompanying salad was fresh with not enough-you got it, french dressing. (What else but french dressing with a Latino meal) The only good thing was the flan, absolutely delicious and a nice portion to boot. Maybe the food doesn't travel well, but I had plenty of takeout with the same kind of food and I truly enjoyed it. Great spot! I have passed this place several times and meant to stop in but don't often go to Upper Darby. It is worth the trip! I studied abroad in Ecuador and have desperately wanted to find an Ecuadorian restaurant, but most restaurants in the Philly area that do have Ecuadorian food on their menus are "fusion" restaurants that pull foods from several other Latin American countries. That's great, but I wanted straight-up Ecuadorian. Doña Eva's is the place. I brought my trusting boyfriend along, and together we ordered yuca fries, fried plantains with cheese, and fried shrimp in bacon for appetizers... you may be sensing a theme here... the plantains with cheese is a great combo, sweet, soft plantains with the dense, salty Ecuadorian cheese is one of my favorite combos. I love yuca fries because I love all things starchy, but my boyfriend was not so impressed. They're kind of like giant French fries. For entrees we ordered the churrasco Ecuatoriano (steak with fried egg, rice, salad, fried plantains, avocado and salcipapas) and the garlic shrimp (shrimp in garlic sauce, salad, avoacdo, tostones and rice). This was an insane amount of food. We stuffed ourselves and had plenty to bring home. The steak was perfectly cooked and the shrimp was really flavorful. I love tostones too, they're fried green plantains (savory, not sweet). I've never gotten into salcipapas. It's just French fries and a hotdog. Never understood the appeal in Ecuador either. But overall it was a great meal and I feel really nostalgic for Ecuador now. read more

First thing's first, I moved to Philly recently after living in L.A. where it is EXTREMELY difficult to find Ecuadorian food, and finding El Sazón de Doña Eva feels like a gift! As an Ecuadorian who loves to eat and whose mom is a cook, I also have really high standards for Ecuadorian food. Doña Eva definitely lives up to them. I have had so many of their dishes, the paella (which takes a while to come out because it's made fresh to order), llapingachos, ceviche de camarón, camarones al ajillo, and pretty much all of the sides - probably a couple of other things I'm forgetting. I would really recommend them all. I love going to the restaurant because it feels like being home, but I also have ordered delivery and pickup, and my order has been right every time. The quaker is also real good! I love this place so much I even made a big order from them on my birthday and everything was great. Remember that they make many of the dishes fresh to order, so you might have to wait a little while for the food to come, but it is 100% worth it, and the wait staff will usually let you know how long it will take if you're ordering something that takes long. This food is cooked fresh and with love, it's not fast food, so keep that in mind. Thank you, Doña Eva for making me feel closer to home! read more

The food was ok, but they delivered an incomplete order and said it was too far (25 blocks away) of a drive to bring the missing salad and that they would not reimburse anything. They offered a discount on future purchases, but with their little willingness to correct their own mistake, I don't think I would order from here again. read more

We ended up dining here since Inka Wall was closed and it was a wonderful, serendipitous find. Our waitress was phenomenal and provided us samples with their homemade drinks and the soup of the day, which was all very tasty. I enjoyed the apple/oatmeal juice, weird sounding but delicious. The spicy sauce for the bread was very good, I would have had more bread but I knew we were going to be trying a lot of dishes. I still used the sauce to top other dishes that I wanted to have a kick. I ordered avocado thinking I would get sliced avocado but it came out as guacamole and fresh fried chips, best guac and chips by far and it was only $2.50. Another must is the sweet plantain with cheese, I could have eaten the whole order myself. The ceviche mixto was delicious and even had octopus also very fresh tasting. Although, they may have precooked the fish as it had that flavor and texture unlike "raw" fish ceviche. The ceviche is supposed to only be available on the weekends but we were in luck and you should ask if they have the weekend stuff anyway. The ceviche came out with the entrees although I would have expected it to come out as an app. The main entrees took longer than expected to come out but I think most of the dishes were being made to order so that is a plus. The Fried fish (porgy) and the roasted pork were my faves. The roasted pork was served with an orange potato species that I've never seen before and with a type of large corn as another starch, truly authentic looking sides! The Ecuadorian steak was a little overcooked and chewy. We also ordered the seafood soup which was huge and had lobster which explained why it was $16.00, it can easily feed 4-5 people. The soup was tasty but the clams and mussles had an overly fishy flavor. Overall I would go back, especially since they had alot of soups and stews available on weekends only. Also the waitress mentioned another great dish of shrimp and pork that we need to try. There was only one other person dining in but they had a lot of take out orders. read more

I expect that food doesn't travel well when you order delivery, and I knew I was taking a risk ordering the picada. The beef and pork were ok, but the chicken was really bland. The rest was ok as well, with the exception fried sweet plantains, which were undercooked (still pink). This is my second time ordering from this restaurant, and I thought maybe things had changed. It's hard to find Ecuadorian food in Philly. This place has typical Ecuadorian food, but the service is mediocre and the food is far from fresh. The waiter even forgot to mention she used a different fish for the encebollado which is normally made with tuna. On a different meal she missed to tell me they ran out of potatoes entirely.
