El Senor is good in some ways, not so good in others. I like them for the most part but I have had trouble getting ground beef that isn't still pink. The last time I ordered something with ground beef and I sent it back because it was still pink, they brought me another plate (supposedly) that was cooked more but the beef was still pink. I steer clear of the ground beef and I'm good now. My husband loves the pork fajitas. They're a little dry for my taste but I love the chicken and beef fajitas. So I drove out to knightdale to pick up a friend before heading to the outlets in Smithfield and just had to have lunch here! We arrived for a late lunch and I was surprised at how busy it was! There was a large party ahead of us but we were seated and our server was attentive-our chips and salsa arrived and we placed our drink order. I was impressed with the service-we placed our order and it was brought out to our table quickly. I ordered the shrimp chimichanga and omg, it was perfect!! Great flavor! It's been awhile since I've visited this location. I struggled to decide on my rating because the staff were very attentive and speed of service was on point. This issue was overall food quality. The salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce, the rice was wilted and flavorless. The chicken filament for the burrito was pretty decent, it had some flavor and was moist. I also ordered the beef tip enchilada, the beef reminded me of cubed deli roast beef. No flavor, spongy texture. We went here for dinner last night after a coworker recommended it to us. I was expecting typical mexican food but what we got was so much more. I tend to get chimichangas at every Mexican restaurant I go to. I think of myself as a little bit of a chimichanga snob. I got the chimichangas at El Senor and they were AMAZING. Every part of my meal was perfect. The tortilla's were crispy and I even found pieces of jalapeno mixed in with the chicken. It was perfect. I wanted to keep eating and eating it but my stomach would not let me. I will definitely be going back because El Senor is inexpensive and delicious! We also had great drinks! While there is a lot of "hit or miss" on the menu, the "hits" are A+. I strongly suggest getting the Seafood Chile Poblanos-- poblano peppers stuffed with scallops and shrimp in a cheese sauce with rice and beans. Ask for their hot sauce too-- not the one they bring out to the table when you sit down-- they have another one that is smokier, spicier and better. The tortas are good, and the camarones a la diabla are great as well. Not a fan of the tacos, as I prefer to make my own at home with handmade corn tortillas, but I eat here quite a bit for lunch as my office is nearby so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the seafood items. Service was fine up until everyone's food arrived and I was told my mole would be out soon. 10 minutes later tell the server it never came to which he says they arent making it anymore. Was then asked if I wanted a burrito or chimichanga.By then my whole family had pretty much finished eating so I didnt want them to wait while I ordered something different. I'm from Las Vegas originally and am use to the quality and service you get in the south west when it comes to mexican and Hispanic restaurants in general. I've been here twice and both times were equally as bad. The service leaves a lot to be desired for. The lack of attention they give you from checking on you during your meal to offering refills is the biggest reason I won't be back. The food is bland. Very bland. Even the complimentary salsa is disappointing. You're better off buying a can at the store. We've tried everything from basic enchiladas to the chori pollo and the dips and nothing really stuck out. El Senor is an affordable Mexican restaurant that is close to my home, so I frequent it fairly often. The ingredients always taste very fresh, but they always use wayyyy to much onions in everything. I always ask them to hold the onions now. I also wish they had better salsa, Another reviewer said it tasted like Pace and I agree. They claimed it was shredded mozzarella, but it tasted like cheap american cheese u put on a sandwich. And the beef looked like the "beef" taco bell uses and tasted worse.
