The "carne asada" resembled shaved steak sprinkled with seasoning and not the grilled, marinated, skirt steak you'd expect. They prepare Sopes as delicious as my Abuelita (may God rest her soul) and I don't have to go to a big crowded place or fly to the west coast to eat well. I've been here twice. Its a nice local and divey place for authentic Mexican food. I've eaten the burritos and tacos. So far so good. If you eat in, they give the first basket of nachos for free. I like the green sauce the best. My friend got the enchiladas and the portions are huge that she had to take half of it home with her. It does get crowded with the lunch crowd. I recommend going at 11AM or after 1 PM. The waiters are really nice and speak very little English. The service is pretty good as well. read more

The young man who I will assume is there son is quite polite- and really helpful- but the lady behind the counter who calls the shots is kind of rude- I asked the young man how many hot sauce came with the burrito.. he said two- she insisted only one would come for free and each one would be .25 . That reasonable but please figure those things out when u open your business. Don't fight with your son ( cashier) and husband (cook) over the price of salsa. El Sombrero definitely a diamond in the rough for Linthicum, MD. We had the marinated pork tacos and the burrito Al Pastor. The tacos were very flavorful and the soft corn tortilla was beyond reproach. The tacos came with two huge grilled scallions and grilled cactus leaf that melted in your mouth. The food arrived in a very reasonable amount of time, however when I didn't check the order until in my room, when I realized they had sent a green sauce instead of the red I requested. I was hungry and didn't want to wait for the order to be fixed as it was delivery, but the green sauce was not tasty and I was very disappointed with my overall order. This is a wonderful, casual place to eat. My husband and I stopped here about a month ago for lunch. My burrito was good, the service was good, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Better quality ingredients, especially produce, would go a long way to improving the food. My husband would probably give them 5 stars, and has been back a couple of times, but I'm a bit pickier about vegetables than he is. The food reminds me of authentic Mexican cuisine that I used to get in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, Sunset Park, in Brooklyn. Love everything about it! We order off of door dash and wanted to try something new. Recommend the tacos. I ordered chicken, husband carne asada. Very delicious and comes the way it should with onions and cilantro. I like the option of being able to add cheese and was pleased with the service received. We opted to have our onions and cilantro on the side due to an allergy which was noted in notes and restaurants provided service. Thank you! Doing this made it less of a hassle for the whole order. I had given up trying to find good Mexican food in Maryland...until I found this place. I've had their carne asada, al pastor, and lengua tacos and they are heavenly. If you're the sort of person who understands the joy that is a tender, flavorful lengua taco then you'll know that these don't come with cheese and lettuce; this isn't Taco Bell. These tacos came piled with authentically delicious meat, onions, and cilantro nestled in warm corn tortillas that transport your tastebuds to the streets of Mexico. Their tostadas are crisp and heaping with meat, lettuce, and crema. Their sopes are the right thickness are ready for the party in your stomach. Stop reading and drive over. I don't mind if all of this creates lines that I have to stand in for my new favorite place as long as it keeps this treasure in business. Had the unique idea of going out for Mexican at Los Portalas for cinco de mayo, unfortunately so did the 25 parties ahead of us when we checked in. Hopped onto to Yelp for a plan b and El Sombrero popped up. Reviews look good, called and told them we were coming over with a party of 14. "No problem" they replied. Was a bit concerned when we arrived to see no one in the restaurant. How could a Mexican place be empty on cinco de mayo? The answer- no alcohol (they are trying for liquor license). No matter really for us as we were looking for food not alcohol. First up was horchata. Big gulp sized cup and delicious! Chips and salsa landed on the table next with two types of salsa, green cilantro based one and a smoky red one. Our decision to come here was starting to look good. We browsed the extensive menu and found what we needed. I went for the three taco combo: chorizo, al pastor and beef tongue. Orders started to come out and our jaws dropped when we saw the portions. The tostadas looked like tropical islands and the burritos were the size of a small neck pillow! Even the kids remarked "all this for $8?" Not only were the portions large, everyone noted how fresh the ingredients were. My tacos were amazing, especially the beef tongue which was cooked to perfection. So so tender! Tapped out after my second taco but had to try the flan and tres leches cake. Both were solid but not the best I've had. So if you're still reading, this place is indeed a hidden gem. Compared to Los Portalas, the food here is way better!! Those of you that go to R&R, you'll want to go the extra mile and come here.
