On October 3, 2025, my pregnant wife and I had one of the most disturbing experiences ever at this El Super (1100 W Slauson Ave, Los Angeles). While parked legally in a disabled spot with my valid disability placard properly displayed, we were harassed and verbally abused by the Allied Universal security guard stationed at this store. The guard profiled us, ignored other drivers, and singled us out. She body-shamed my pregnant wife, calling her "fat" in harsh terms, and later escalated by screaming profanity, including calling my wife a "stupid f*cking bitch" as we were leaving. She even took photos and videos of us on private property without consent. We never provoked her, this was a one-sided attack that left us shaken, unsafe, and humiliated. I have dash cam footage and timestamps to prove everything. It is outrageous that El Super allows a guard like this to represent their store. Customers should feel safe, not targeted or harassed -- especially people with disabilities and expectant mothers. Until El Super addresses this, I will not return and urge management to take accountability for what happened on their property. read more

Did I forget to review my beef empanada and pupusa dang. Seven bucks and this is more authentic than you'll find at a restaurant. Or on the street. Don't go that route. I think I've gotten parasites that way. Anyway. Crispy doughy empanadas with flavorful beef seasoning (also have chicken and cheese/jalapeno), and the pupusa was full of cheese and some other tasty awesome stuff I don't even know. I love pupusas. This place is fine, but when it comes to the sale of their tamales, it's a different story. For the last few days, I've been making a stop at the market to get my favorite cheese tamales, but when I open the container in which there supposedly have to stay warm, it's empty. What kind of service is this for customers who want these tamales to enjoy??? This store is absolutely horrible seriously, go to any other store and you won't have to deal with disgusting conditions, super unfriendly staff, and just a horrible experience!! My friend lost his wallet here and they kept it safe and everything was intact so this is an automatic 5 stars. I go here a lot for avocados and beer. Every once and a while, I'll get some meat for the grill or the ingredients to make nachos. El Super is catered to the Hispanic market, however the selection is at par for ay type of person to find the basics they'll need. The frozen section could use an update, but this place is clean and has integrity. So I'll keep doing good business. read more

Went to do some early morning shopping at the El Super Market on Vermont & Slauson in L.A., which once inside appears to be themed & staffed by Hispanics. & let me just say up front, I have nothing against any culture, because own family is culturally diverse. However, it was as if I had travelled back in time, because you would of thought there was a "no blacks allowed" sign posted somewhere in the store that I missed, based on the unnecessary rudeness & harsh stares I received in this market. When I asked about several items I couldn't locate, the persons I asked either shrugged their shoulders with no response or pretended not know what I was saying. (How you are even working in a mostly English speaking community, but can't or won't communicate in English?) When I went to the meat department, they continuously spoke in Spanish & called most of the service numbers in Spanish. & one of the staff stared dead at me, skipped over my number & never even ask what number I had, until I objected. The checkout girl was friendly with the people checking out in front of me & skipped over acknowledging me, to speak to the person checking out behind me & greeted them cheerfully in Spanish, though I was standing right in front of her. I greeted her anyway, though she barely said hi & didnt even try to make eye contact "with me" as she did witj the other customers. I tried to pay her ignorance or lack of English no mind, but the ultimate disrespect & rudeness was after I checked out. I decided to buy some precooked items at the deli. There was only one person ahead of me when I got in line to select my items, but lady behind the counter ignored me after helping the customer ahead of me, & helped several people that randomly walked up way after I did. I remained cordial & polite & asked again for assistance because I was next. However she insisted on helping the other people behind me. So, I let her help her people, but was compelled to tell her in a professional way how very rude it was of her to disregard helping the customers in the order they arrive in line. She then apologized only after I spoke up about it. I still asked if I could speak to a manager & she said one wasn't available. This type of behavior is unacceptable in an area that has a mixture of predominately African Americans & Hispanics. There is no need to be rude to other cultures that venture into your store from different cultures. Your store is a business that is "allegedly" open to the public & to anyone who comes in to shop & spend their money. Therefore, every customer should be treated fairly & made to feel welcome! If this not your motto for doing business in a diverse community then maybe your store should relocate out of this community!! read more

I like coming here for the prices. But besides that I feel like they can work on customer service!! The meat department is always to full and wait can be up to 45mins.also I don't like the fact that now they have so many flies inside flying over the meats.What really bothers me and makes me give 2 stars is the fact that the meat department workers touch beef chicken seafood everything with the same glove!!That's unsanitary!!!! Ok yes I kno I said I was done with el super after my lukewarm vibe at the Inglewood century location. Buttt I was in need of some bollio rolls 5/$1 and was nearby so decided to try again . When I turned into the lot I immediately regretted my decision . How are y'all working on your lot in the middle of hot summer (kids off school,many off work ect) I finally after multiple turns got a spot off of Kansas parallel parking ugh . So I go in and notice the same layout as Inglewood but less lines thank god. There was a cafe to my left which was nice to see. I got to the bakery and got my rolls which were not hot and fresh but I know with these things you've got to know what times to get the hot bread. I also got a sweet bread and I wish I'd got two because it was legit!! Best of all they sell fresh cut fruit bowls for way less than albertsons ect..Pineapple and watermelon for almost $1 less! Even the bigger bowls cost the same or less than the small bowl at vons. I also noticed the tea or medicinal teas are a good price here compared to Baja ranch. I will shop el super again albeit a closer one to me is in Pomona so we'll see . Still think they need to work on some things mainly the customer service. As an employee I must speak from this point of view. Customer service from myself is great I can't speak for the rest. The store itself has great produce comparing to other places, such as numero uno, superior... Not only customers get to complain, we get a great deal of rude customers that cant reply to a friendly greet. Making comments such as if I don't buy you don't get paid, with an EBT at hand lol! No, sorry, it's the other way around. My tax money helps to receive benefits. Let me explain the retention of the lines.. you customers, if you know you will be paying why wait until everything is scanned to start searching in your sock, your bra, bags.. or asking to remove items because they don't have the money. Customers slow the lines not the cashiers!!! Paying with 10 different credit cards and I am extremely patient but customers in line get mad at the cashiers. Another thing, paying $50-$80 transactions with pennies and dimes is not accepted. We have a coin star machine to make those coins paper money and not hold up the line. Parents don't control their children, we find full meals eaten and not paid for. These reviewers complain and they come back. We are under a new management and business will not cease. Long lines is a sign of great business. I know people don't complain waiting 2 hours for a roller coaster ride lol! Just be PATIENT!!! AND HAVE YOUR MONEY IN HAND!!! read more

Not sure I agree with all the poor ratings for this store, but my experience has been very good; the prices are low, and the quality of food is good. There is a limited selection (maybe 15 salad dressings) but do we need 100 salad dressings? You have to pack your own groceries. One thing I like is that the produce is not that green, unripe fruit you get in chain stores who value shelf life. You can find a lot of fresh fruit, especially mangoes and pineapples. Geez... I just left this place and i couldn't wait to write this. I'm infuriated. Not only do I have to wait 30-40 minutes to buy meat. I have to wait an additional 30 minutes to pay...
