We were so excited to try this restaurant because of the videos I was seeing on Instagram about their soufflé pancakes. The pancakes did not disappoint! They are fluffy and flavorful, but they are HUGE! Their size is not a bad thing, but we were stuffed. They do have a great weekday special where you get a drink, an entree and a choice of their pancakes or for an up charge, you can select one of their sweet soufflé pancake offerings. This is a great deal, but definitely very filling. I'm still stuffed hours later, but so satisfied and happy. I also ordered an iced strawberry matcha, which is also fantastic. Yesterday (6/6/2026, Saturday), even though it was Saturday, I got up very early in the morning, got ready, and went out with my family for a family breakfast. We went to Takagi. The first time we visited was on Sunday, May 11th of last year. My mom had some medical tests done that morning and was very hungry afterward, so I suggested we go there. However, the wait was over an hour. While we were waiting, we went next door to Bluestone Lane for pancakes and coffee and then we came back to Takagi for their soufflé pancakes. The soufflé pancakes were so good that the place left a lasting impression on us. The soufflé pancakes are incredibly fluffy, soft, and delicious. When you order coffee, it comes with crackers on the side, and both the coffee and the crackers are excellent. Last year, we tried several different soufflé pancake flavors, including mango and strawberry. They were good, but a little too sweet for my taste. I remembered that the Original Soufflé Pancake was my favorite, so yesterday all five members of my family ordered the Original Soufflé Pancake. This time, however, I noticed a new menu item that wasn't there before. Until 11:00 AM, they offered a Morning Combo that included either 2 or 4 pancakes, plus salad, eggs, and coffee. I wanted to try it, so I ordered the combo, and it turned out to be very good. Another thing I liked was their coffee selection. They offer a variety of coffee beans, including Colombian and Ethiopian coffee, so you can enjoy different flavors and aromas. However, after paying and receiving the receipt, I noticed something that disappointed me. The restaurant accepts cards only and automatically adds a 3% credit card processing fee. I mentioned this in the chat room that I run, and one of my close friends told me that some credit card companies may reimburse those fees if you call them. What? Should I call my credit card company for three dollars? I would have rather deducted it from the tip. But by then, I had already calculated and paid a 20% tip. P.S. #1: The next time when my mom is craving soufflé pancakes, I want to try a soufflé pancake restaurant in West Hollywood. We were actually thinking about going there yesterday, but there happened to be a parade in the area. A few years ago, I accidentally went there during a parade without knowing about it, and all the streets were blocked off. It was such a hassle that yesterday we decided to avoid the area altogether. P.S. #2: Besides the mandatory 3% card processing fee, another downside is that they only have one restroom, even though the restaurant gets extremely crowded. P.S. #3: When we left, there was a huge crowd of people waiting outside. Even though we arrived very early, we still had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. If you go later in the day, waiting an hour is pretty normal. P.S. #4: When you arrive, you enter your name and cellphone number on a screen and wait for your turn. Yesterday, my brother entered his name and cellphone number for our party. P.S. #5: While I was trying to stand up and take a better picture of the food, I lost my balance and fell hard onto the floor. Besides the fresh fruit and the flakes, they also added pancaly as toppings. We arrived at around 2:30PM and waited for about 30 minutes. We didn't realize that they were offering happy hour prices I. Their wines ($4.50, regular price is $9.50). Their outdoor seating allows dogs." I've always wanted to try Japanese soufflé pancakes and I came across this in IG and looked up their location. I went here for the first time last Saturday as I have a facial appointment nearby at 11 so I thought it'll be good to grab a solo breakfast here before I head over to my appointment. First off, you'll have to find street parking in this neighborhood. I found street parking right away. There was already about 6 ahead of me and I got there at 10, got seated 10 mins later but it was at the bar, tucked away in the corner. I saw the girl next to me ate only half on the 2 soufflés so I decided to just order the 2 soufflé pancakes and a side of half omelette. Also wanted to taste their coffee so I got the Tanaka light with half and half. The menu has a lot of choices but I want to get the basic so I get to taste it on its own without adding any other toppings. My half omelette came first after 15 mins and then I had to follow up on the coffee which I got 5mins later. So finally I got the pancakes after 10 more mins, so it seems that it takes about 30 mins to make or they were just incredibly busy. I can say that it was worth the wait. I got it with butter topping so I got 2 butters and I didn't need the syrup because it stands well on its own. The eggs were cooked to my liking and the coffee is perfectly balanced. Place has a nice minimalist decor and busy atmosphere. If you don't mind the wait it's worth a try. Between the waiting and getting the food and eating up to payment it took a full hour, barely made it to my appointment but I don't mind. Unique place by the Grove for fantastic, single origin coffee and good brunch. Really friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere made it easy to enjoy. The wait for three on a Sunday morning at 9 was an hour so forget the 10-15 minute thing. They don't have many tables but it was worth the wait. The millefeuille pancakes were great. Tatagi Coffee is a beautiful spot with a cozy but open concept and fantastic natural lighting. We were seated right away by a very welcoming host, and the view of the hills provides a perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal. The food was the absolute highlight. The Japanese-style mille-feuille pancakes have a unique melt-in-your-mouth texture that is really hard to find elsewhere; they are incredibly light and airy. I also noted but didn't yet try the omurice and tonkatsu, which are solid Japanese mainstays. It's rare to find a place in the States that serves up Japanese Soufflé Pancakes. When I saw Takagi coffee on my Yelp feed and saw that they their home store is from Osaka, Japan, I knew I had to give them a try. The last time I had Japanese Soufflé Pancakes was quite literally when I was in Japan. Thus, the comparison standard will be quite high. I came on a weekday afternoon and there were a few diners inside, but did not have to wait before being acknowledged my presence and handed me the menu. You can order for dine-in or take-out. Knowing that Japanese Soufflé Pancakes take some time to be made ~20-40 mins, I opted for take-out as I was running short on time. Overall, staff were courteous and friendly. Parking is street-parking only, which can be a challenge as usual in the West L.A. area. Aside from coffee drinks, they do have various tea options and smoothies as well. Aside from the Pancakes, they do serve up other food options like pastas, salads, omelette rice, various rice dishes, and burgers. For my visit, I ordered... 1. Coffee in Jelly (5/5) Apparently, they roast their coffee beans in-house and have a variety of blends (light, original and premium) - varying in their sweetness, acidity, aroma, flavor, body, and aftertaste. I am not sure which blend they used for the "Coffee in Jelly" drink, but it was very good - rich, roasty, bold, and not acidic at all. It was a well-balanced latte drink. The coffee jelly added more coffee flavor and just a hint of sweetness to make the drink perfect. 2. Matcha Millefeuille Pancake (3.5/5) The pancake was not bad, but not quite up to my high expectations of Japanese soufflé pancake. In my opinion, it was a bit too "eggy" and a bit too dense compared to the truly airy and fluffy pancakes I've had in Japan. However, I did notice that they call it Millefeuille pancakes here for the U.S. franchise, so I am not sure if they changed it up a bit to tailor it to the population here in the U.S.??? Millefeuille usually means "chilled layer pastry" vs. soufflé is usually "light-as-air and spongy." The matcha cream on the other hand, was excellent. It was rich in matcha flavor, yet creamy, nicely whipped, and not too sweat. The fruits served with it were all fresh. Presentation was not the best, but that was my own fault for getting it take-out. They packaged the matcha cream and fruits separately from the pancake. You can add-on addition toppings (ie. butter, azuki red beans, vanilla ice cream or whipped cream) for $2/each topping. Overall, it was a decent experience. I'd come back to try out their other dishes and definitely for their coffee drinks -rich, quality coffee served here. read more

My friend and I went at what we thought was early on a Saturday to discover the waitlist had several parties ahead of us. The staff is quick and efficient. The interior of this spot reminds me of being back in Japan. If you go before 11 you can order off the specials menu and the combo plate with fluffy pancake options were great for us since we hadn't been before. I opted to get the iced coffee with almond milk add on with mine which was good if you enjoy strong coffee (I'll probably get a matcha next time). The fluffy pancakes are like little clouds. I've been here twice now--the first time just for coffee, and the second time with a friend after a Pilates class. Both visits were great. I ordered them plain with butter and whipped cream. They were super fluffy with a rich eggy flavor that made them unique and absolutely delicious. The miso soup was especially tasty and paired perfectly with the rest of the meal. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because of the wait and one interaction at the front. We did not have a reservation, so we expected the 40 to 50 minute wait and were completely okay with that. We came back within the time they gave us, but somehow our table had already been given away, so we ended up waiting another 10 to 15 minutes. That was frustrating. We were then told that we had missed our window even though we had not, and my friend was basically escorted toward the door while being told we would have to wait longer. From what my friend told me, the interaction came across as pretty rude. Thankfully, once we were seated, our server and the rest of the staff were kind and attentive, and the service after that was great. Then it took about another 10-15 minutes to received the second: We ordered the special Hojicha Japanese pancakes 4 stack. Not too sweet and super fluffy with a jiggle. Flavor is very delicate and hinting [id prefer a stronger roasted green tea flavor]. Red bean paste and mochi were awesome additives - I tasted more red bean than anything else. Fruits were fresh. Mini scoop of vanilla ice cream balanced everything out. Orange slice infused water is self-serve. I like to pop in and out, but this is a more leisurely place where everyone sat and just talked for a really long time. If that's your speed great. If not, it was like watching syrup pour. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and absolutely loved it! We tried the strawberry and mixed berry pancake as well as the omurice. The omurice was solid. Nice ketchup fried rice with a fluffy egg. Demiglace sauce was flavorful, and the hamburg on top was super juicy. Salad on the side was fresh and a nice addition to our meal. The strawberry and mixed berry pancake was amazing, pancakes were so pillowy soft and the presentation was so cute. Met all of my expectations. We never got water until the end when we asked The coconut milk lattes were VERY good, but you aren't able to taste the coconut. The Christmas pancakes are beautiful and delicious, but be aware that the powder is not pistachio.... It's matcha. We WILL be back because I want to try the savory dishes .... Read on the infatuation list that the pancake has no jiggle lol but still saw people waiting in line during the rain during Christmas, so I just decided to give it a try. Let me say the pancake has quite a bit of jiggles! Pretty sure plenty of egg white is in the pancake so it's light and fluffy, but unlike soufflé pancake, this one lingers more in my mouth, which I like. Between chicken cutlet sandwich and burger steak I'd definitely go for the former. The chicken came out glitteringly fresh and juicy, coated with flavorful breadcrumb. It's hands down the best fried chicken sandwich I've had for a while. Potato wedges and burger steak I'm not a fan of, especially the burger steak. So my chat bot told me apparently this kind of burger steak usually has breadcrumbs so you get the mushier texture as opposed to a more meat feel patty. Coffee on the other hand is a worthy mention. I was excited to finally try Takagi after hearing about the pancakes and seeing a packed restaurant every time I passed by. After going on a recent Sunday, I don't feel the need to go back. The pancakes are indeed as fluffy as advertised, but they aren't exceptional enough to justify the price. I tried the classic Millefeuille Pancakes, which are pretty good! They are definitely on the egg-y side as far as pancakes go, but super soft and yummy, and the butter, maple syrup, and whipped cream that come with it are delicious. I didn't leave any bites on the plate. I had wanted to try one of the flavored pancakes, but the prices are pretty insane and pretty much double from the classic ones. $17 for 2 pancakes with some berries is wild, especially when 4 of the classic ones are $13.50. I also tried the Takagi Original Blend coffee (iced) which was very good. It's definitely a quality coffee and you can tell that it's freshly roasted in house. Plus, the rest of the coffee menu is $6.50 and up, which makes $5.50 for a black coffee almost feel reasonable. All in all I'm glad I tried Takagi. The pancakes are tasty and the restaurant has a fun authentic feel to it, but it also seems like a place designed to be trendy (and expensive) so it'll go viral on Instagram. read more

Coffee - 4.5 stars Food and service - 3 My overall rating should be rounded up to 4 stars but I'm sticking to 3 for these reasons: - Very misleading expected wait time to be seated. - Inconsistent Souffle Pancakes, their signature dish Checked in on the iPad, was told 12-15 min wait. A few parties ahead of us. 40 minutes later I asked staff how much longer. Staff seemed indifferent but we were seated in a few more minutes. Not all tables were full, either. We came for the heralded pancakes, ordering 4 different kinds, 2 layers each (4 layers is the other option). All stacks had a pretty flat-tasting bottom layer. 2 orders were amazingly fluffy and airy, but 2 were underwhelming. They just tasted like light pancakes. Plating is beautiful but I hesitate to return knowing the main attraction clearly is hit or miss. Coffee - excellent. Very detailed descriptions of each coffee on the menu. The Brazilian, low acidic one, was strong and rich. Now I like my coffee with cream and sugar but this one actually tasted good by itself. The cappuccino came with a Biscoff. You can also order fusion entrees like pasta. The ambience is great, minimalist but relaxing, especially for long waits to be seated. Street parking was easier than expected. We just got back from Japan and didn't get a chance to get some fluffy pancakes and omurice, so we came here! Quite delicious and filling. They have Yelp check in and can get busy but we were able to get seated. Parking on the street; just read the signs and meters. We actually parked a few blocks away so we could walk to the old Farmers Market afterwards. Coffee was great and refreshing. Pancakes were lightly sweet, the way we enjoy it! The rice with the hayashi was nice and held the egg and sauce well. Great experience! There is a 3% credit surcharge and they are cashless. read more

I can say this is one of the most authentic matcha places near me as somebody who enjoys quality matcha. So far, I've tried their Almond Matcha Latte and regular Iced Matcha Latte and they're both tasty and have a strong matcha kick. The price is a bit steep for only drinks, however if you can try it, definitely do! read more
