MARUKYU KOYAMAEN 丸久小山園 MATCHA POWDER - Isuzu 五十鈴 (40g)
    Sarah C.

5/27/2026 4 Stars - Minus 1 Star for small parking lot + $3.00 fee. GELATO IN A CUP (2 FLAVORS) Ultra Rich Matcha #5 & Hojicha I did not taste this first before purchasing. I had a general idea of the intensity of this matcha gelato, as I've read some reviews on it, and I was not wrong! It does have that bitterness, but no noticeable astringency. A bit of grassiness and slight sweetness. If you've made koicha, then think of it in gelato form. I purposely got hojicha gelato to balance out the intensity of the matcha gelato. The hojicha was also deep, roasted, nutty in flavor. It was much sweeter than the matcha gelato, so it complemented the matcha gelato really well. Personally, I did love the hojicha gelato a bit more. Every guest that walked in ordered matcha or hojicha lattes. Not gelato. I guess I am one of the few that preferred gelato over matcha lattes. MARUKYU KOYAMAEN 丸久小山園 MATCHA POWDER - Isuzu 五十鈴 (40g) Matcha powder was purchased in-store via self-kiosk. The Isuzu was quite bitter, a little bit of astringency, vegetal, yet creamy. It also lends a bit of umami flavor as well. It is best used for matcha lattes. Also, it worked well as a koicha, if you want that intense flavor. I simply made a matcha affogato, which I enjoyed. However, Isuzu wasn't my favorite. Glad I tried it. SELF-ORDER KIOSKS There are two kiosks that you can place your order and they will call your number. I do think you can order at the register, although I'm not completely sure, as I saw a screen at the front register, but everyone ordered at the self-order kiosks. I went on a Wednesday around 1:00pm, so there was no line. I saw a few people standing around to look at the menu and two people sitting down at the table. It was quite empty at that time. The menu is jam-packed! There's so many options that you don't know where to start. I recommend that you take a look at the online menu before arrival. Better yet, if you're closer to the shop, you can skip the line and order online on Snack Pass. ONE SAMPLE ONLY FOR GELATOS! So choose well. It is quite pointless giving out one sample. The sample I got was the Genmai Matcha #1. This tasted exactly like genmaicha in gelato form. LIMITED SEATING AVAILABLE A few tables and chairs inside. Minimalist wooden tables and seats look nice, but are uncomfortable. VALET PARKING IS $3.00. Just letting you know. It is a small parking lot too. Not sure if the parking fee changes for evening hours. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was minimal interaction, as I ordered via self-order kiosk. But I did get a sample of the gelato. Customer service was okay. Not rude, but they weren't smiling nor welcoming. Would I come back? Maybe, if I'm in the area, but not sure I would go out of my way to come here. I think the small parking lot and $3.00 fee is what makes it less appealing. Personally, Maruwu Seicha has a more welcoming ambiance and the large outdoor space makes it a good place to visit, enjoy your drinks and gelato at your pace. You get 1 hr free parking at Culver Steps too.

want to try their guava matcha latte but realized its guava cream and not some sort of compote/puree. $5 valet parking but not bad considering the fact that its in ktown. the interior feels japanese-esque. also, the workers give you free samples of the gelato. however, you get one sample so i tried the hokkaido milk; tastes like sweet milk but has the dairy aftertaste. the combination we got for the gelatos worked together so well. ranking of gelatos : 1. dark chocolate: so thick, rich and deep flavor of chocolate. also has bits of chocolate pieces inside. worked so well with the hojicha bc the slight notes of tea from the hojicha softens the strong flavor of the chocolate. 2. mango sorbet: very refreshing but a bit harder to scoop bc its water based? works well with the matcha since its already a popular combo. 3. hojicha: not the biggest fan of hojicha but it's 3rd place bc of how much it accentuated the dark chocolate. also, hojicha wasn't super sweet, which was good. 4. level 4 matcha: i hated how airy this flavor was. the matcha flavor also seemed to fall short as if there was supposed to be something lingering at the end. reminds of me of tea master matcha. more focused on the sweetness of the gelato rather than trying to bring out the earthiness of the matcha.

Matsu Matcha is such a creatively designed dessert spot. The inside has a traditional Japanese inspired feel that really adds to the experience. I tried both the ceremonial grade matcha and the jasmine green tea. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the jasmine green tea since it wasn't as sweet as I usually like, but the tea flavor itself was very potent with a really nice aroma. The ceremonial grade matcha ice cream, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious. The color looked perfect and the flavor tasted super authentic and high quality. Even the cone itself was really good. There isn't much seating inside, but it's easy to take your dessert to go and walk around the area. There's also a parking lot, which makes parking super convenient. The staff were attentive and friendly throughout the visit. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you enjoy high quality matcha.

    The sign just screams legit.

We went to Matsu Matcha on National Matcha Day after watching an influencer nail her reel. And of course, there was a line out the door, but it moved faster than expected, especially since we were just there for gelato. They offer matcha in different strength levels, which is a nice touch depending on how deep your matcha love goes. I went medium, my wife got the jasmine floral and my son went full strength. I liked mine best. The strong was too bitter for me and the floral was a little too floral, but that's just personal taste. So why 4 stars? A few small things. The strip mall parking lot is tight and finding a spot is impossible. The place itself is small with no outdoor seating, so we ended up eating our gelato on a bus stop bench, which was fine but not exactly the vibe. And honestly, the Instagram crowd means it skews toward first-timers and those of us snobs (haha) who've been into matcha for a while might find it a little too trendy for its own good. That said, if you're looking for a place that's matcha-trendy and Instagram-ready but also actually high-quality matcha, you've found it. Just go on a weekday.

Lines are long but it moves relatively quick. You order on the kiosk and pick up at the station. Gelato allows you one taste test. Gelato #3 - lighters and creamier but still good Gelato #5 - dark matcha intensity, nice long aftertaste ($1 extra) Triple matcha - tasty drink overall Interior is small, parking is not easy, but looks very aesthetic. You don't wait long but it sees to always be packed. I really liked the gelato matcha and my drinks. Overall would definitely recommend as the matcha is very good. I would love to keep exploring some of the other menu items.

So happy to Matsu Matcha expand from the Bay to LA! It's located at a prime spot in Ktown, in a busy plaza. I came with some friends on a Friday night and we loved the gelato! They allow samples, but unfortunately only 1 sample per customer. We tried the Hokkaido milk, hojicha, #3 Uji matcha, and the jasmine matcha, and all the flavors were amazing and high quality! You order at one of the kiosks and they'll call you once your order is ready. The shop itself is beautiful with a modern and minimalist aesthetic and there's some seating available. Parking: either in the plaza (valet) or street parking. Need to come back for the drinks!

I got the Mango Matcha with match jelly and it was AMAZING. The flavor was soo good and was not too sweet (I did 50% sugar) or heavy. I saw they have a bunch of different matcha ice cream flavors and I will definitely be back to try.

Cloud matcha and matcha mango latte

Okay the hype is real. The matcha is DELICIOUS. Was there a wait? Yes, but wasn't too bad. You order from a kiosk and wait until they call your number/name. There are a few seats inside but pretty tight from each other. Every order, you get a complimentary small spoon of soft serve to try so don't forget. Their matcha does not taste too earthy but yet just right. You can choose your sweetness adjust for certain drinks you order but I definitely recommend the coconut matcha as it tastes so refreshing, especially on days when it's hot. Mango matcha latte, soo good. Fresh mango puree and the combo with matcha on point. Parking situation: you can either try to park inside the lot or skip the hassle and park on the street and walk. Coming back? Yes!

Matsu Matcha is definitely up there as one of my favorite matcha spots in LA. They offer a variety of matcha drinks, desserts etc. Their banana pudding einspanner is so creamy and the banana pudding is so yummy on top. Their mango gelato is also notably one of the best i've had by far. The interior of this location has a good amount of seating but it does seem to be packed often. You place your order on a kiosk and get called by name when it's ready. Parking isn't the best unless you're okay with paying for valet in an overly crammed parking lot. Other than that you're better off finding street parking and walking.

I had some friends and family in town who were craving matcha, and luckily Yelp led us here, definitely no complaints from me! The matcha latte was DELICIOUS and honestly pretty reasonable at $7. My friend got the one matcha for $8 and loved hers too. We also got to sample some of the gelato, and it was super yummy. We came on a Friday night, so it was pretty packed, but the ambience was clean and inviting, and the staff were really nice. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more drinks!

It's a small cozy shop in a busy plaza. Valet is expected. You order via kiosk. There's 2. I got their guava matcha drink and sampled their gelato ice cream. I've definitely had better matcha drinks elsewhere. I personally thought the flavor of guava and matcha did not blend in that well. I also tried their ultra rich matcha gelato. It is bitter and strong in matcha flavor so if you like unsweetened matcha flavor, you'll enjoy it. Overall they're ok but not the flavor you'll come back second time for.

I was already so full from dinner, but I noticed we were already so close to here... I wanted to take the chance to visit since we're already there LOL Came after dinner and it was pretty busy. Most people were getting gelatos, very few were getting matcha drinks. Good thing they offer samples for their gelatos! It was quite creamy and rich. I went ahead and tried the strongest matcha, and it tastes like you're licking straight matcha powder, but ice cream version. Pretty good, but I would imagine it would taste bitter and astringent the more you have it. I ultimately went with the triple matcha. It was good! I do think it was as good as trying Maruwu Seicha, but I think I still prefer Rok more since it was more creamy. The drink here is a bit more dessert like to me? Especially with the matcha cream top and matcha jelly it had. The jelly was pretty good! Overall, definitely a solid place for authentic matcha drinks. They will charge valet parking here, but there are street parking around. Shop is very small with limited seating.

They confirmed a few flavors that were okay for her. She developed allergic reaction after eating the gelato. I called them on the phone to double check again, and the person I spoke to confirmed that all the gelato has dextrose (corn) in it. I am very upset about this since the employees are not all informed. If you don't know the answer then say you don't know and go find out! Do not just say whatever you think as my 4 year old daughter suffered because of it. The gelato and ambiance are great here, and if you're coming for that great, but be wary if you have dietary restrictions.
