i really enjoyed the hojicha and ultra rich matcha gelato! the flavors were strong and texture was creamy. matsu matcha offers a total of 9 gelato flavors, ranging from light to refreshingly tangy to nutty. there are 5 variations of matcha alone: genmai, jasmine, uji, extra, and ULTRA RICH. the difference between "extra" and "ultra" is actually noticeable, so the premium pricing is understandable. samples are limited 1 per customer. WAIT TIME my friends and i visited on a sunday in the early afternoon, so we received our drinks and gelatos within 5-7 minutes of inputting our orders at the kiosk. SEATING since the shop is small, seating can be pretty limited, especially if you have a larger party. the place was packed and bustling by 3 pm. PARKING valet parking at the plaza matsu matcha occupies is $3. street parking is metered.

This is the valet parking attendant from that incident.

We came here to order matcha and parked in an open public parking space directly in front of the store. There were no signs whatsoever indicating that the spot was reserved for valet parking or that payment was required. Within seconds, a valet parking attendant approached us and demanded $5. When I explained that I was parked in a free public space, he became extremely rude, aggressive, and disrespectful. His attitude was completely unacceptable and made us feel unwelcome before we even entered the store. If someone is going to charge people for parking, there should be clear signs, not employees intimidating customers and demanding money from people legally parked in public spaces. This experience completely ruined our visit. Management should seriously address this behavior because no customer deserves to be treated this way.

They specialize in matcha. I mean, not only is it in the name, but you have gelato with different types and concentration of matcha as well as a variety of drinks you can order. The service is really friendly and the space isn't large but it's bright, clean, and has a zen-like quality to it. There is some seating, but I'm going to guess most of the business is for take out. Since it was early in the morning, I got a beverage (although I would love to come back soon and get some gelato!). And I didn't really go the traditional route. I got the banana pudding matcha cream, which was such a tasty treat! But yeah, my next visit, I will be exploring the gelato flavors for sure. The lot is pretty tiny as with most lots in K Town, but there's valet and when I went, it was early in the day so there was available street parking nearby.

One of the best matchas I've had! When you first walk in, the aesthetic is reminiscent of a Japanese tea house (but in a more japandi/minimal modern). There's kiosks where you can order and an ice cream display of all their ice creams. We got the triple matcha drink and one scoop of the Genmai matcha ice cream. The triple matcha drink is really good. The drink comes with matcha jelly and matcha creamtop and is bitter but also slightly sweet. Matcha jelly isn't too overpowering with matcha but it does give the drink a stronger matcha taste. 9/10 The genmai ice cream has a lighter matcha taste which isn't too bitter. Creamy and refreshing with a matcha aftertaste. 8/10 Stuff is friendly and they are nice enough to put our one scoop into a cup (which typically comes in a cone). Def will come back to try the other matcha drinks and ice creams!

I love matsumatcha. I don't typically drink matcha but I do love a good hojicha. It was strong and nutty but didn't feel grainy. Ambiance is clean and lots of seating but it's hard to find parking unless u pay in the lot for $3.

I really enjoyed Matsu Matcha and am disappointed that there is not one near my house! This place was pretty good and the line was pretty long but also went by pretty fast. You order at the kiosk so it really depends on how long people take to order. Their ice creams are very strong in flavor for both the matcha and hojicha! You are allowed to try one sample of their gelato so I definitely recommend trying that if there isn't a wait. I also got and liked the hojicha latte. I think the only downside of this place is that it is very pricey for the size, but the quality is very good. It was very aesthetic but very little seating and just very crowded so I recommend going on a random day and time. The parking is very small and I believe it is only valet parking, so I recommend finding neighborhood/street parking.

Some of the best matcha I've had in L.A. The shop has really nice and simple decor. You order at the kiosk and my drinks came out pretty quickly. I orderd the triple matcha and the guava matcha latte. Both were delicious but I liked the triple matcha a bit more. I cant wait to go back and try some of their other fmdrinks and gelato. The only thing that wasnt the best was the parking. I think its valet only.

i think the main consensus is that the matcha lattes are not that great but the gelatos are 5 stars. matcha flavors in general are amazing! the lattes are a bit watery but i didnt think these were horrible in the slightest. i'd definitely come back here but just for gelato. but i also really hate how they limit you on samples like you genuinely only get 1. it felt like a gamble choosing my flavor.. but i believe they'd all be good

I was driving through Koreatown during the week, and I noticed that this is where Matsu Matcha is. I've seen the videos online where the lines are crazy on the weekends. So I was able to find a street parking. I was able to order the triple Matcha drink, which was amazing. I'd love the bits of jelly Also, the ice cream looked really good and that is something. I will have to try to get next time as well as some of the other drinks that they had. The store is fairly big however there isn't that much seating around so it is a little bit trickier to get a seat inside. Not sure if they allow mobile orders all the time or not but that might be the okay especially if there's a line for the kiosks. They have valet parking outside otherwise if you can't find any street parking. Great place for Matcha here in Koreatown

There is only valet parking in a tiny parking lot which was $5. Very nice valet guys though. No outdoor seating and only 5 seats inside so it was very crowded. However, the matcha was strong and delicious. The gelato was the perfect level of creamy and not too sweet. 50% sweetness was perfect. Definitely recommend for authentic Japanese matcha that'll keep you up at night.

Iced matcha latte with mango

This place is nestled right in the main little Tokyo area. When we walked inside, there was a pretty big crowd of people waiting for their drinks along with a hefty line to order. The line moved quite slowly. Once we were in front, we realized you order yourself on a single tablet which doesn't seem like the most efficient system, so that probably contributes to why the line moves so slowly. We also asked one of the workers what Hokkaido was when looking at the gelato flavors, and they said that they don't know... I was a little surprised that one of the workers wouldn't know their own product lol. We went with iced matcha latte with mango. You can specify the sweetness level, we got it at the recommended 50%. They charge an extra 0.75 for dairy-free milk. It's pretty pricey, around $9 each. It took a while for the drink to be ready, maybe 10 or so minutes. It's also super warm inside, I wish they had AC. The matcha latte was pretty tasty and smooth, the matcha flavor was strong. Towards the end I was a little over it though and it tasted a little chalky. It's okay but not sure it's worth standing in such a long line and waiting as long as we did.

MARUKYU KOYAMAEN 丸久小山園 MATCHA POWDER - Isuzu 五十鈴 (40g)

5/27/2026 4 Stars - Minus 1 Star for small parking lot + $3.00 fee. GELATO IN A CUP (2 FLAVORS) Ultra Rich Matcha #5 & Hojicha I did not taste this first before purchasing. I had a general idea of the intensity of this matcha gelato, as I've read some reviews on it, and I was not wrong! It does have that bitterness, but no noticeable astringency. A bit of grassiness and slight sweetness. If you've made koicha, then think of it in gelato form. I purposely got hojicha gelato to balance out the intensity of the matcha gelato. The hojicha was also deep, roasted, nutty in flavor. It was much sweeter than the matcha gelato, so it complemented the matcha gelato really well. Personally, I did love the hojicha gelato a bit more. Every guest that walked in ordered matcha or hojicha lattes. Not gelato. I guess I am one of the few that preferred gelato over matcha lattes. MARUKYU KOYAMAEN 丸久小山園 MATCHA POWDER - Isuzu 五十鈴 (40g) Matcha powder was purchased in-store via self-kiosk. The Isuzu was quite bitter, a little bit of astringency, vegetal, yet creamy. It also lends a bit of umami flavor as well. It is best used for matcha lattes. Also, it worked well as a koicha, if you want that intense flavor. I simply made a matcha affogato, which I enjoyed. However, Isuzu wasn't my favorite. Glad I tried it. SELF-ORDER KIOSKS There are two kiosks that you can place your order and they will call your number. I do think you can order at the register, although I'm not completely sure, as I saw a screen at the front register, but everyone ordered at the self-order kiosks. I went on a Wednesday around 1:00pm, so there was no line. I saw a few people standing around to look at the menu and two people sitting down at the table. It was quite empty at that time. The menu is jam-packed! There's so many options that you don't know where to start. I recommend that you take a look at the online menu before arrival. Better yet, if you're closer to the shop, you can skip the line and order online on Snack Pass. ONE SAMPLE ONLY FOR GELATOS! So choose well. It is quite pointless giving out one sample. The sample I got was the Genmai Matcha #1. This tasted exactly like genmaicha in gelato form. LIMITED SEATING AVAILABLE A few tables and chairs inside. Minimalist wooden tables and seats look nice, but are uncomfortable. VALET PARKING IS $3.00. Just letting you know. It is a small parking lot too. Not sure if the parking fee changes for evening hours. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was minimal interaction, as I ordered via self-order kiosk. But I did get a sample of the gelato. Customer service was okay. Not rude, but they weren't smiling nor welcoming. Would I come back? Maybe, if I'm in the area, but not sure I would go out of my way to come here. I think the small parking lot and $3.00 fee is what makes it less appealing. Personally, Maruwu Seicha has a more welcoming ambiance and the large outdoor space makes it a good place to visit, enjoy your drinks and gelato at your pace. You get 1 hr free parking at Culver Steps too.

The matcha drinks and gelato are ok. Matcha drinks are super watery and not all of them can be oat milk substituted. Some of the gelatos were good. The best flavor is probably the Hojicha but it's pretty sweet. I also got the extra rich matcha gelato and it almost looked neon? Like it had some green food dye in it. They only have one kiosk and it takes forever to get to. Service is ok and pretty expensive for what it is.

Rich and high-quality matcha with a smooth flavor. Not too sweet and beautifully presented. Definitely worth a visit if you love matcha!

It was pretty busy for late afternoon but I took it as a good sign. My sister has been a bunch of times before and really wanted me to try their cream top but I don't drink coffee and they apparently stopped allowing modifications to their drinks so you can no longer add the cream top to the matcha latte. She got the cream top coffee and I got the matcha latte so I could sip the top of hers and drink mine and it was honestly so so good. I have no idea how they make their cream top but it's unlike any other I've tried. The matcha itself was also very smooth and great quality. Both drinks came out to just $13.50 total, which is amazing. Would come again!

I get the Japandi minimalist design aesthetic but a lot of people would love to just sit down and drink their spendy beverage and there's just not enough seats for all the customers. I would suggest adding more benches along the North wall which is an entirely usable space as well as adding another counter along the window with barstools. For this, I have to give the ambiance 2 stars. I'd still come back for the exceptional matcha latte though!
