Considered against cost? This is a 5 star Mexican restaurant. I was in the neighborhood and a little bit drunk and it was 10 o'clock at night and the red neon Open sign was on, so I went in and ordered one Carne Asada Taco and one Chicken Taco and the total cost was $3.99. After a one dollar tip, I charged five dollars on my credit card. And what I got? Was two, big beautiful street tacos... The carne asada taco was fat and full of meat, seasoned and well prepared, flavorful with the homemade salsa that I used from the bins that sit in a kiosk nearby. The chicken taco was well seasoned with pepper and whatnot and was delicious also. Filling good snacks! I enjoyed "the deal" of it all so much, I returned for their "King Asada Taco," which, for $2.49 before tax and tip, is a big fried taco with lettuce and tomatoes and shredded cheese atop it. The all-fried meat-and-taco-shell taco not only fell apart in my hands while I tried to eat it, but it was nowhere near as good as the lesser priced street tacos which I had just thoroughly enjoyed. Ordered chicken enchilada plate for dine in. Wait took 30 minutes. Orders after me were served first. Plate finally arrived and food was inedible. Rice was cold, beans overcooked, cold cheese scattered atop. Enchilada tortilla was burnt, hardly any chicken inside. I abandoned my plate and walked out in disgust. Our son just moved to NoHo and wanted some Mexican food, and we wanted to go to a local store and not a national store and we found this on Yelp so decided to go as it was in walking distance. It's a small family owned place and we thought why not and we were happy coming here. We ordered three different meals including tacos and burritos. We needed to take a couple things off an order and no problem, easily done! It's not an expensive place, friendly service, you can see them making the food as you wait and they have $0.99 tacos on Thursdays. I've been taking this superb taqueria a bit for granted since I first moved to North Hollywood about 10 years back, but that ends now. I've had it all from here but I've often relied on their wet (mojado) shrimp burrito as a delicious and healthier alternative to the delicious carne asada and pork variations (carnitas, al pastor), and sometimes my personal fatty favorite, cabeza (head meat -- not brains!) Another pork dish, chile verde, is a favorite I've enjoyed here often. This place is worth every moment of extra time I may serve in Jewish hell for my countless dietary infractions! I should add that the people who work there -- the visibly super experienced sole cook/chef who's as friendly as someone working at that extremely difficult job has time for, and the always delightful cashiers make this a place I don't mind hanging around in while I wait for my order. (Since I usually stop here after I've been to the gym, I'm not exactly helping the atmosphere any, but no complaints so far!) But, aside from being consistent, this is a place where you can go past the standard taqueria fare. Last night I ordered one of my favorite dishes from any country, chicken mole. I hesitated a bit because some very good places around make it a little sweet for my taste. Traditional brown mole is made with chocolate but it's not what my fellow gringos might be thinking. While some places play the sweet-and-sour card it's usually more spicy -- just a very moderate amount of heat -- and savory. A gringo might not even realize there's any chocolate in it. Since I don't order mole (pronounced "mole-A") all that often, last night's must be the most satisfying chicken I've had in decades. The chicken -- a leg and thigh -- was perfectly cooked, came right off the bone, and was as moist as I could ask for. The sauce ("mole" just means "sauce") was perfectly balanced; mildly spicy and a bit schmaltzy. (You can look up the literal Yiddish meaning of "schmaltz.") Mind you, this is a taqueria, not a restaurant. By that, I mean I think most people will prefer this place for takeout. The dining area is rather large but the decor is an early laundromat. A TV is tuned, sometimes a bit loudly, to a Spanish-language cable channel and the lighting feels extra fluorescent. But, when you return home to your usual dining situation, you'll be in a perfect space! read more

Look, this is a DIVE. It's a JOINT. But North Hollywood--lemme tell ya what-- EAT THERE. You can taste that these recipes come from great-great grandma. When the BEANS they dribble on top of a few chips taste so good you stop in the middle of your sentence-- that's a sign of things to come. We had a Chile Verde Burrito, and a Chile Relleno Burrito, and we could not stop talking about how GOOD it was. The family behind the counter were very nice, many customers were there for their Taco Thursday special. This place isn't that good. It doesn't scream "Wow"! You know? I've had plenty tacos in my life and these were a disappointment. To start I had a shrimp taco that was very bland, too much lettuce and overpriced. The cabeza tacos I think we're decent. If you have a crave for cabeza tacos, this place will do it. Lastly I had carnitas tacos. Also they weren't that good. I can tell immediately that the carnitas were old. I'd like to point out that this place doesn't have a warm welcoming touch. I didn't like eating inside. It's a little messy and dirty. Maybe the review can be redeemed if I ever go back and order something to go. I hope you have a better experience. If the food doesn't do it for you, at least the service will. What they lack in flavor they compensate with customer service. read more

This little mom & pop is a gem. Delicious food. My favorite is the chili relleno burrito. We go out of our way to go here.

I pick up my order and wander over to the salsa bar. Hmm, the jalapeno and carrot mix has cauliflower in it and garlic too??! I was psyched. Sadly that was the best part of the meal. The Al Pastor tacos weren't neutral they were bad. Strange brown sauce, wrong flavor, major let down. The restroom did offer a little entertainment though. The plumbing for the urinal is still in place including the handle but mysteriously the rest of the apparatus is gone. Just a pipe coming out of the wall and the handle. Not sure why so many people have given this place such high reviews. I have gone here multiple times and found the food average at best. It's not like they are trying to hard. Prime example, had the enchiladas, a dish i really like when it is done right. However, they don't bake them or even microwave them. They cook them on the grill and they aren't rolled but just corn tortillas dipped in canned enchilada sauce with unmelted cheese on top. The meat was kind of dry in the enchiladas. It is served with canned refried beans and what they think spanish rice is (very bland). The venue isn't well-maintained and it is obvious that the AC broke many years ago. I've had the tacos here also which aren't that great. You'll get better ones the next block up with the illegal taco stand outside of Superior Grocers. read more

Today I went in for two fresh squeezed juices. The guy who made them accepted my credit card and handled the cash register and immediately began handling the fruits and vegetables wih his bare hands. He did NOT wash them in between! He then disappeared to the back and emerged with a handful of dirty carrots and dropped them into a container of water. As he chopped the soft papaya he again handled it with bare, unwashed hands. Gross!!! He then noticed that the blender was sitting in a sink full of dirty dishes. Holy crap this place rocks! Okay, I admit it, I was headed to taco bell. Then I saw this place next door and boom taco bell was no more! The lady that runs the place is super sweet. The food is delicious and incredibly cheap. A chile relleno, an echilada, rice, beans, and salad, plus chips and salsa, for 4.99? Yes please! I asked the owner what she recommended from the seafood section and she told me to try the tostada de camarones......great decision! Tons of shrimp, onion, cilantro, lime, tomato, and avocado, served on crispy corn tortillas, for only a couple of bucks. My mouth thanks you, ma'am. My order was ready in ten minutes, cooked right in front of me,I got a ton of food for super cheap, plus whatever I wanted from the salsa and condiment bar..... Hole-in-the-wall Mexican in NoHo? No way (insert sarcastic face here)! Mad cheap - 4 tacos, rice, beans, and a few chips for like $7. The carne asada is really good. And I really like the fact that they have a wide selection of toppers off to the side (limes, lots of salsas, peppers, radishes). The pozole is so-so. Not bad...not great. It just needs a lot of the fixins to taste good. The soup broth itself is just a little bland. I'd get it again, but I've had better. I just really like this place. It was way before i started yelping on Xmas of last year. this time around I had a bean and cheese burrito which was not on the menu. (I was going veggie at the time) Mexican places usually don't offer meatless options. I've been lucky and just ask and the people are more than glad to make something common that might not be on the menu. the burrito was good and big for the most part, although I could tell that the beans were slightly starting to sour. the flavor of the salsa and the cheese masked the flavor but i did detect an off flavor. I am OBSESSED with the " king taco " from here. It's a hard shell taco with your choice of ; shredded chicken shredded beed or pork i obviously went with the chicken, BOMB. They top it with sour cream, lettuce, pico de whatever salsa ( lol ) and cheese. It tastes like my grammys tacos, maybe that's why I love them so much. And it rings you for $1.75 or something, super cheap for how yummy it is. My boyfriend always goes here and gets the asada fries. ( not on the menu but always willing to make them for him ) I recently went after shopping across the street at Goodwill and was super surprised how clean and huge the menu was . I will be back to try the shrimp quesadilla. It's right next to Taco Bell, seriously it's around the same price. Do yourself a favor and skip the drive-thru and hit this spot.
