a food truck parked on the side of the road

This location is at the corner of the gas station. I actually pulled into the gas station to recheck my map app. and then saw the food truck. I bought three tacos to go. Two asada and a soft birria taco. The red sauce has an adobo smoky taste to it and the green sauce was mild. The red sauce was a nice change to your usual red sauces . The green sauce in comparison did not impress me. The handmade tortillas are big and stand out in taste. Without reading the sign of handmade tortillas you can tell just by looking at the tacos that these are not your average store bought and reheated tortillas. The birria soft taco was also very good The meat did have the birria flavor I am accostumed to. The tacos are filled with meat generously as well but would suggest adding a bit more onion. Also they have a $1.00 processing fee if you pay with an atm, and there is also a sign that they are short in change if you pay with cash.

fresh tortillas, not out of a bag

The first time we drove by El Taconento was on a Sunday evening and we were bummed to find out that they were closed. On our street taco scramble this past weekend, they were opened, and they had a small group of people waiting for their orders which was also a good sign. Run by a husband and wife team (I think) they have a nice selection-Tacos,Tortas, Quesadillas, Burritos and something no other vendor offers, Huaraches(Slippers). They also offer six types of meat selections-Asada, Lengua, Cabeza, Pollo, Al Pastor(He has an Al Pastor Carousel inside) and Birria, another thing no other vendor offers. Traditionally made with goat, Tacontento's version is beef, kinda sorta like picadillo(if you had Cafe Rio's Chile Roasted Beef, it is very similar to that) So we shared a Taco de Al Pastor, Taco de Lengua,($1.50/each) and a Huarache de Birria($5) The al pastor had very good flavor with nicely charred bits, and the lengua was oh-so-soft and tenderlicious! There's nothing like a fresh handmade tortilla, and this is the only way tacos are made here . The Huarache is a 1/4-inch thick by 10-inch oval of masa that is griddled to perfection topped with beans, meat of your choice, shredded lettuce, crema Mexicana, and Cotija cheese.Just as good as the ones I've had in the streets of Cancun, and much tastier than the huaraches served at Los Antojos. Wait times vary, depending on how busy they are, but if you are patient, the food served up here is definitely worth the wait. easily becoming one of my favorite street vendors...ALOHA!!!

The food was so good!! There was one man working the register and kitchen who was incredibly kind. highly recommend

Good, friendly service is not something I've come to expect from a taco truck, but El Tacontento delivers service with a smile almost as big as the grinning, sombrero-wearing taco painted on the truck. I drive past this newer taco cart on my way to work, and one thing convinced me that I had to try it: the name! This stand in the parking lot of a tire shop across from Fiesta Rancho and the Westwind Drive-In Theater recently replaced another mobile vendor with not-so-memorable tacos and a name I can't remember. I requested a veggie burrito and was offered pinto beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, salsa, and crema inside a large flour tortilla. The rice was well seasoned and the Mexican-style sour cream made it even more delicious. I'll be back for this burrito for sure. My husband ordered a taco de birria and proclaimed it very tasty for his first time ever sampling birria. He was given a choice of corn tortilla: regular or fresh. Of course, he opted for the freshly pressed and griddled masa. Our total? $5. They offer bottled beverages, but I'd definitely like to see some horchata or other aguas. The man and woman who took our order and prepared our food were so friendly and helpful that we will certainly return for mas tacos y burritos. Gracias and cuatro estrellas for El Happy Taco!

Best tacos I've had so far in Las Vegas. So so so good! Reminds me of the good ole days roaming around east LA late night, except this time I'm sober and I can actually taste food. Handmade tortillas, how do people live without this?? Pickled red onion whaat?! Kracie, What is this place?

    Two carne asasa tacos, rice/beans.

They have a Loteria drinking game, with each card matching a drink on the menu. Fun idea, but when explained seemed confusing. The drink was ok, too sweet for me and a little small for the price. Menu highlights for me was The dirty corn, salsa flight, and my (2) taco plate. The dirty corn was a standout with elote-style corn in a bowl, topped with chicharron, chorizo, and spicy mayo. It delivers that street corn flavor, but with a good mix of textures and spice. My tacos were delicious. I tried one grilled shrimp taco and one carnitas taco, served with rice and beans. The blue corn tortillas were a nice touch and pillowy soft! The carnitas were amazing, great flavor and super tender. I shrimp tacos were just as good and when topped with their habanero, verde, and roja salsa, that heat and flavor depth gets elevated! Overall, it's a dependable neighborhood spot with a fun atmosphere, creative touches, and good food that makes it worth a visit if you are in the area!

The vibes are really fun, very vibrant and there are various rooms that could offer more intimate spaces if you wanted. We were greeted pretty promptly, but the service was admittedly slow. He was attentive when around, and there was someone always coming around and filling our water, but it did take a bit to get our order in and receive our food. The food was absolutely delicious! I can't remember the name of my meal, but it had steak with chimichurri, fried plantain, pico, avocado, beans, rice and an egg. My favorite part was definitely the steak! It was perfectly cooked and the chimichurri added the best brightness that the dish needed! There are so many spots in Vegas so I'm not sure I'd come back but I definitely enjoyed it.

Every food item on the Happy Hour menu is $12, which makes it a great way to try a variety of dishes without spending a fortune in Vegas. We ordered the shrimp tacos, CHICA nachos, Firecracker Wings, quesa-birria empanadas, potato flautas, shrimp ceviche, and ahi tuna bites. Everything was absolutely delicious, and there honestly wasn't a bad dish in the bunch. One thing to keep in mind is that these truly are small plates. Don't expect a lot of food with each $12 dish. They're perfect for ordering several different things and sharing, but if you're really hungry, you'll definitely want to order multiple plates. The Firecracker Wings had a really nice kick to them. We loved the spice, but if you have a lower spice tolerance, be careful with those! Also, a heads-up about the shrimp ceviche: CHICA's version is more tomato-based rather than the bright, lime-forward ceviche you might be expecting. It was still really good, but if you don't like tomato-based ceviche, that's definitely something to know before ordering. For drinks, we tried the CHICA-Rita, Palomita, and Tommy's Margarita. They were running a 2-for-1 drink special for $21 total, which was such a great deal, especially for Vegas. Between the absolutely delicious food, fun atmosphere, and Happy Hour pricing, we really enjoyed CHICA. It's a great spot if you like ordering a bunch of small plates for the table and getting to try a little bit of everything.
