The margaritas were decent, I'll admit. The food was not. I read some of the reviews but decided to give it a shot and I was so in the mood for Mexican. First we started off with chips and salsa. The salsa was nice and thick and the chips were thick but good. Then we read in menu they charge for refills on chips and salsa?! Ha ha ha!!! Wow! We proceed to get Mexican combinations with a chile relleno, enchilada, taco, and some guacamole tostada. Ordered a tamale on the side just to try. The meal said it came with rice and beans there was no beans and the rice was maybe a few spoonfuls. As you can see the plates were slopped on with excess sauces. It was bland and lacked any presentation. Everything just seemed barely thrown together and they even charge you for refills on non alcoholic drinks! I showed the waiter my yelp 10% discount and it al oat felt he didn't want to give it to me. We asked for our check to be split in 2 and he said he couldn't. After the look I must have had in my face he came back with 2 checks. Worse experience and really lousy food! You get better authentic Mexican at Taco Bell! Always been a favorite of ours. Staff always friendly. Food always good. Can't beat it. I usually get the chimichanga or chili rellanos. Get the large margarita for two. Always does the trick. The only tip I would have would be the service when we sit on the patio during the summer. Service can be a bit slow out there. Maybe have a server dedicated to the patio. read more

We had talked with the manager about being able to accommodate about 40 of our group. We arrived about 11:00 AM so we would be ahead of the 'lunch crowd'. We arrived and were seated. When the waitress arrived, we were told everything would be on one ticket. We wanted individual or couple tickets. She brought the manager who I had talked with a week or so earlier. He supported the waitress ... so I suggested that we would all leave. He finally agreed to ticket each table. This still created a lot of unrest ... especially when it came time to pay the bills. However, when it came time to refill the 'chips' ... we were told that we would be charged extra. That certainly isn't the way we do things in Texas. Great food + service. No food poisoning like in another review. Really impressed that they had a Vegetarian red chili option (their green chili is made with pork) AND that I could get it dairy free. Score! The free chips and salsa were good - like everyone else has mentioned. My meal came in at under $6 on a Saturday (when lunch specials were NOT served) for a vegetarian burrito. If you order a soda, plan to spend a dollar or two more. The next time I go back will be for one of their tasty looking margaritas. read more

Terrible experience. Ordered nachos from door dash ( $15 dollar nachos and 24 dollar total with delivery). We received 10 chips with cheese and a tablespoon of guacamole. They were soggy and unappealing. No nacho toppings or meat. The hostess told us the manager was too busy to speak on the phone. Once we finally got the manager Guillermo on the phone, he refused to do another order even though our app said the restaurant closed at 10pm. First off salsa was good. Happy hour drink prices were also good. Tried cheese enchiladas, tamales, crispy chile releno, beans , & rice. All we're good. We have been coming here for years, along with another couple. Yes, we we know the expectations of the food, but it's close to our house and a tradition. We are used to the fact the service could be tough, especially with all of these people sitting home with their Biden cash and not working. However, we had a next-level rude, stressed-out, hurried and downright angry and skipped the order for someone at our table. This experience was with the manager, G. Literally rushed us to order and was slamming things (he was bartending and waiting). Fortunately, a professional waitress came over and confirmed our order and got the order for the person G skipped. G was extremely unprofessional and angry, accusing us of changing the whole order, which was not true. He did this by yelling at us to the table from inside the bar, instead of coming over to our table. We just added the person's order who had been skipped. The best part of this new location is the service. From the hostesses to the bus boys (who wear tuxedos), everyone in this establishment is bending over backwards to give first rate customer service. They're cheerful, too! Otherwise, the food is mediocre, but about what I've experienced at other locations in the same chain. The chips are mass-produced, and served cold, not freshly made. The refried beans are good; the guacamole appears to be prepared in a food processor and is a little dull. They serve Coke instead of Pepsi, which is great. Well let me start off by saying that I have been to this restaurant 3 time in the past year and will NEVER go there again. The first 2 meals were OK, the food was about a 3, but the place is close to home so why not. The last meal was absolutely horrible, I tasted each of the 3 things on my plate and set my plate aside to be removed, and it was. When it came time to pay the bill I asked the server to remove my $8.50 meal since I did not eat it. The manager came right over and said "we check everything in the kitchen, our food was not cold and did not taste bad," Righhhhht. I was told I ate some of my meal so I would be paying for it. He spun on his heals and mumbled "bitch." At that my husband stood up, I told the server to charge me for our meal and we left. Whew crisis adverted, well worth the $8.50 eh? This experience just about ruined our whole evening, from the bad food, terrible service and RUDE manager. I paid over $8.00 for a burrito w/ refried beans, that tasted awful. I feel that this place is over priced, not good food, and service was not that great either. This is my first review ever, but not my first rodeo at a Mexican Restaurant. My coworkers and I just got to town after traveling all day and we were famished and craving margaritas and fundido! I was chosen to pick the Mexican joint and was actually pretty nervous about being in charge of something so very important. I narrowed it down to El Tapatio and we headed there in an Uber. Do not judge a book by its cover... the place looked like a slightly dated Ruby Tuesday on the outside and the inside was not much different. We were seated and that's when the magic happened. The chips and salsa were on point! 3 different versions: the original was perfectly spiced, the hot salsa was incredible and the verde salsa was very unique (I had 3 bowls). My friend ordered a frozen margarita and wanted a jalapeño garnish for a kick. Our waitress suggested that the jalapeño be blended in the margarita and it blew our mind! The best ever. The queso fundido came out just like we wanted it; in a cast iron plate piping hot and stringy. Next we had a mixture of flautas, chili rellenos, enchiladas, guacamole tostados and the real winner of the night, chicken tortilla soup! The soup was a slam dunk. Just the right amount of brothy w crispy tortillas , avocado, sour cream and deliciously seasoned shredded chicken. More patrons started to file in and we saw one gentleman order a fascinating bowl full of seafood goodness w a Mexican flare. Then the table behind us ordered the same thing. It literally looked amazing. The service was great and the food came out very quickly. Please don't think I'm a rookie at eating good food just because this is my first review, I thought this was one of my top 5 restaurants of all time and I'm rockin' a body by Mexican baby. If I could I would give this place no stars! I have NEVER made a review, but I am so mad here it goes!!!!! We came in and no one was at the hostess stand. There was a bell on top of the stand. I rang it thinking they were just like every other eating establishment in America and short staffed. The manager came storming up and yelled at me telling me how rude I was for ringing the bell without waiting for a long time. He angrily grabs the menus and walks us to a table. I tried explaining myself saying I thought the bell was there to let them know someone was at the front. He once again told me I was rude. Ahhhh. What the heck anger management! i was so upset that I said a few choice words and we left. To the establishment if you don't want people to ring the bell please put it away so your manager named Angel doesn't have a heart attack! Still shaking my head. Staff used to be great now they are regularly very rude. They can't handle taking orders for specific times. You can place orders for specific times but they made ours over an hour earlier. We showed them the receipt when we showed up and they said they would just reheat it. We said we placed it for a specific time and it's their fault for making it early. The just said they were going to reheat it and the kitchen is closing. We spoke to the manager he said we are going to reheat the food instead of remaking it. They would not give us a refund, this place is trash don't order here. read more

What a joke Just inform customer there an additional charge...instead The Waiter was extremely rude. Never got a refill on my Iced Tea. Chips are colorful but not flavorful. My husband and I were on this side of town running errands and stopped by for a bite to eat. It seemed kinda strange when we walked in...everyone was in the bar area and not one person or group was sitting in the dining room. Well, I guess we were the first among a few to follow. Kinda of being the middle of things to do we weren't in a super rush but didn't wanna hang and linger either. No one came to our table for awhile so it gave us plenty of time to figure out drinks and our main entree. Finally, a girl came by to deliver chips and salsa. However, she looked put off because we assumed she was our waitress and wanted to put in our order with her. She left in a hurry and said someone would come by to take our order. What seemed like a decade later a different girl came by to take our drink order but would not take our food order because "Im not your waiter but he'll be by soon," ok then... finally our waiter came by that was finally willing to take our FOOD order. I ordered the vegetarian plate which included a cheese enchilada, tostada, and bean burrito. It was kinda of unnerving how FAST our food came out verses how long it took to actually take our order. My plate was covered in red sauce that looked like a dead animal had been ran over and put on my plate with gross blan tasteless sauce. Yuck! My stomach still turns when I think about it. I can't even remember what my husband got because everything was so forgetful. I believe everything and I mean everything is brought in frozen and heated in the microwave. Could have been an episode of Gordon Ramsey screaming, " Why is everything frozen? Why not make it fresh?" The check came and by then my stomach is rolling . Instead of finishing our day of errands we headed back home it was that bad of a stomach ache brewing. About a block from home my husband looks over and see's my distress...because I'm Not the only one, he's ready to yack it all up like me. Both of us left sick and By the time we made it to the drive way I was running to the door bursting through the front door and praying to the toilet with all the lunch coming back up. I say this with all the conviction I can muster...Do Not Eat Here! Save your money and go to a place that has real fresh delicious Mexican food. Ever hear of Los Arcos. I have eaten here a few times now, each time hoping I will like it more than the time before. Yet the complete opposite is happening, the service tends to get worse and worse and as I explore the menu more it does not get better. Food is edible but defiantly not good Mexican food, granted I am a bit spoiled just moving from SD the mecca of Mexican food. The margaritas are done well though. The thing that is making me write this review is the service, worse service ever! Most of the time we want to enjoy the outside cool evening so sit on the patio. Well be for-warned, if you sit out there, you will be ignored. The last time I was there, I got my drink and chips and salsa and then 35minutes later they came out to ask if I wanted to order. This would not have been as bad if I was chatting it up with friends but nope I was there alone. I ended up being their an hour and half due to slow service, and the entire time the table next to me sat un-bused and dirty. The visit before this one was just as bad, in fact we almost walked out on the check cause we had been done and ready to go for so long before the waiter every come to check on us. El Disgusting! I know I have been spoiled when it comes to quality and authentic Mexican food because I've spent the past few years living in San Diego. My expectations were reasonable going into the place, but this was just terrible. The two stars are for the chips and salsa which are good, but the red sauce on my enchilada reminded me of spaghetti o's sauce. Just thinking about it makes me nauseated! Before going in I called to ask about vegetarian options: I was clearly told "of course! no problem!" Our servers was delightful but told us the beans are not vegetarian ... even in the two Vegetarian Combo plates. They went back to double check with the kitchen staff. Nope, not vegetarian. I admit I've been curious about the El Tapatio's that seem to be occupying all of the old Bennigan's locations. Curious no more. Stopped in for lunch and found out. I'm not sure if El Tapatio is an improvement over the Bennigan's that was there or not. The menu is extensive - you've got your average combination plates, breakfast dishes (served all day), enchiladas, a few burritos, some specialty plates and lots of seafood dishes. I chose to avoid the seafood pages and went with the carnitas plate and an El Tapatio Margarita. Said margarita was $7.95 so I was expecting a little buzz - no buzz. The margarita wasted precious space and calories. The carnets came out on an enormous plate and while the pork was tender the rice was bland and the refried beans tasted more like cardboard than actual beans. There was a nice salsa that came with the carnitas, even though I was expecting some other sauce or something. The food is extremely average, but the prices are not. I'm happy to pay for high quality Mexican food, but this did not warrant the $11.50 for carnitas and $8 margarita. read more

I really like this place. Their food, drinks, and service are excellent whether it's busy or slow. Noe is excellent and attentive but not in your face and makes your dining experience so enjoyable.
