Buyer beware, my wife is 5'6", 120 lbs when dripping wet; we stopped in for happy hour after work; my wife ordered a margarita, the bartender Oscar asked if she wanted a small or large; my wife asked how large the large was and Oscar said 60 oz; she asked to see what a 60 oz glass looked like and he ignored her, and asked again what size. She said "I guess a large", he then comes back with the largest margarita I've ever seen. He knew exactly what he was doing by not showing the size of a 60 oz drink (and it was $20 bucks); I confronted him about the BS he just pulled and we had a mexican staring standoff, after the standoff and Oscars exit a regular at the bar leaned over and said he's seen him do the same thing to others a number of times...As a bartender they need to be upfront about how "large" the large margarita actually is. With that being said, the food was pretty good, and their happy hour is decent, in general I'm a fan of the place aside from the greasy sales tactics from Oscar. read more

This was our first experience at this restaurant. My wife and I just went for lunch and it was a bad experience from the get go. No physical menus, which is not uncommon or challenging for "most" restaurants these days, but this one comes up with tiny font! The server even said it's an ongoing problem, as most people struggle, so she had her own "Cheat sheets"! Lunch came sooo wrong as they forgot the main item, the burrito, the only item with meat, in my 3 item combo! Forgot my wife's guacamole, forgot her green chili on the side, I guess we just should have been happy we got something! My food was barely warm!! Ask for manager... sorry, not around. Guess he got into a battle with another customer about menu issue the previous day. Why don't you get someone with digital savey to re-do digital version with larger font? Or, print larger disposable versions on paper! Or have the laminated ones that someone cleans/ disinfects? Nooooo, its much easier to let the customers flail and then battle with them! Very telling when server says they avoid manager as much as possible! Is this really your best "Management skills", or even a better question, do you even care what customers experiences are? Apparently not as there was no "Manager" available or at least there would be a response, change to these obvious shortcomings. Also, didn't see there was actually a"lunch menu" available until after I got home and got on computer/ website... how convenient? Saving the best for last, when the server (also) forgot to get me a refill on my coke, a nice young man saw I was empty and offered to get me a refill.. but the problem is he grabbed my glass and had same exact used glass from some other table in his other hand... Yikes, that does not instill confidence! And this manager is worried about physical menus?!! Look, haven't done many reviews on Yelp and the few I have done were all positive. But this was just an awful experience and obviously a very poorly managed restaurant and I want people to know that you can just simply do better....most anywhere! I was just checking to see what time they open because I woke up with a craving for some El Tap! I then came across the reviews so I started scrolling through and I'm completely shocked at the amount of negative reviews for such a great restaurant. A little bit to back my viewpoint: I have been eating here for over five years. We regularly go there at a minimum once a month and on average 2-3 times a month. I think the highest frequency we've visited was 3 times in one week. My wife and I have our usual orders we get most of the time (pretty much how we are with any restaurant we go to), but we have both ventured out over the years on multiple occasions so we have had a very well rounded experience with the food offered on the menu. We have never had anything off the menu that wasn't good to eat, it comes down to our preferences as to what we order. Out of the many many many experiences we've had there, there has been a few isolated incidents where the service could be considered less than perfect. Those few times have either been a reasonable reason when the restaurant was super busy, or the occasional bad apple. Any time we've experienced a bad apple, we have never seen them again on subsequent visits. We always have great service when we go there. Very polite and quick staff and most of the time the staff will interact and play with our kids. If you are reading these reviews thinking about trying this place for the first time, please take all of the negative reviews with a grain of salt. I am honestly a very picky person when it comes to food from both quality and service perspectives and I would recommend this place 100% of the time. I would imagine a lot of the nay sayers posting reviews are the type of people that would bit€h about getting something for free! This is the first time we came to this restaurant and we were throughly impressed. The waiter (Raul B) was amazing. He was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. The food was plentiful and delicious. We split a regular order of fajitas and the amount of food was more than enough for the two of us. The chips and salsa were a great appetizer with the salsa having a nice mild taste and did not burn your tongue. We will definitely be back and have found our new favorite Mexican restaurant. read more

Wow, I'm very surprised at the positive reviews. This place has bad food and worse service. We ordered takeout tonight and when we arrived to pick it up, the order was wrong. They literally left out half an order. They assured us it would be ready in 2 minutes, which turned into more than 10. The front of house ladies could care less. Because we waited so long, all of our food was cold-I couldn't even pick up my (formerly) crispy taco before it disintegrated in my hand. Of course, no offer to remake the order. When I complained, I was rewarded with a blank look and shrug. Here's a tip-do not order the green chili. It's remarkably bland and tasteless. Odd. Everything else was just edible. read more

The food is WAY overpriced. GOOD Mexican food shouldn't cost this much. They should have paid me to eat here. I ordered enchiladas and the red sauce was awful. Another Yelper compared it to Spaghetti-o's sauce. They were spot on- it tastes just like it, which is disgusting. My beans and rice were clearly sitting for a while. The beans had a dry film on the top of them and the top of the rice was crispy. (My friend said they tasted just like Casa Bonita's beans and rice, if that's any indication...). I also ordered a side of guacamole and was horrified when they served me nasty, pre-made, just out of the freezer and still practically frozen, store-bought guacamole. Then they charged me $3.75 for it! Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. Everybody's food was gross. I left that place wondering if the cooks/owners had taste buds. This place is flat out disgusting. Definitely can't even compare with the good Mexican food that we're typically used to in Denver. Do yourself a favor and go to Los Arcos or Las Delicias. read more

It's hard to give a proper rating when they do not give your an itemization. Hmmmm....it's suppose to be happy hours, but since we didn't get our itemization, I could not tell. The worst customer service experience. The waitress seemed like she knew half to nothing. Drinks were ok. Got charged double when we gave the waitress three credit cards after explaining we wanted three equal parts split on the bill. After noticing the charged called the restaurant to complaint, manager said it was the waitress fault for not having done three split ways and not notifying us about the mistake however to resolve the issue with the other parties that were in my group that night. read more

This was my first visit to this location of El Tapatio - we used to frequent the Arvada location on Wadsworth until all of a sudden it just wasn't very good. So naturally, I was a little unsure of what to expect on my first visit to the Broomfield location. The chips and salsa were plentiful and tasty - and the salsa has quite a bite. On this particular visit, the 3 of us were pretty hungry so we quickly worked our way through 2 baskets of chips. I went with chicken enchiladas suiza - a dish I've had multiple times at the other location. It was so much better at this location - the chicken was actually seasoned and had some kick to it. The service was a bit slow - but it was a Friday night and they were a bit busy - so I'll let it slide this time. I'm definitely looking forward to returning next time I need some Mexican food. read more

I went in with the word on the street being that the margaritas were to die for. They were not. The margs were too sweet and with no taste of sour or tequila. The complimentary chips and salsa were good but that's about where the good stuff ended. The service was friendly but slow. The food was sub-par. I could have shopped at the Walmart across the parking lot and gotten fresher, better-tasting ingredients. The carne asada burrito was hardly that. The meat was real but had no flavoring other than salt and pepper. The price wasn't bad, considering I selected a $7 burrito. I did walk by the Del Taco on the way out wondering if I could have had the same meal for half the price. I know I could have done better at Chipolte or Qdoba. Our queso was cold, and came out to us with an unappetizing skin of orange glop, followed by my soggy discolored chimichanga that was sitting in literally 1.5 inches of green chili..soup? However - they always seem super short staffed so their service is hit or miss. Pretty dang inconsistent, but always friendly. Huge servings of food! I was literally full off of only 1/3 of my dish (yummy leftovers :). I had the chili relleno, cheese enchilada, taco and rice and beans. Very good service from Jeff. He was brand new and I had to explain to him several times I only wanted a shot of tequila, not a margarita... no biggie! However, I felt the cheapest $7.00 shot of tequila was pretty pricy! Wow.. Lorena was the worst server I've ever had.. We went with a party of about 8 of us for lunch. Our waitress Lorena informed us that she COULD NOT split the check (even though we visited this place 2 days prior and our server was MORE than accommodating and was happy to split the check for us..) In addition, when she made a mistake while bringing out our food and we pointed it out to her, she actually got an attitude about it with us. There were also several instances where Lorena could have made certain menu recommendations that could have saved us a few bucks here or there but no, she didn't mention any of that and instead decoded to be super unfriendly and unpleasant to be around.. Lorena, it really seems like you don't want to work at this restaurant and it totally shows in your performance. Pro tip: Find out what it is that you want to do in life and pursue it, you're definitely not going to make it as a server for much longer, especially if you continue with the same attitude that you displayed today.. Rude & disrespectful for your waiters here! Service great just not a comfortable experience because the waiters were talking in Spanish and didn't know we understood everything they said! Maybe you should train your wait staff to not chisme around when customers can hear everything especially the shorter make dude that twitches a lot with his shoulder. We will never be back & we've told our experience to friends about how terrible we felt walking out after dinner. That waiter told my niece to JUST SET IT DOWN!!! TVs in every room, from every angle, and if there's a football game on, the sound is turned way up. We are among that now rare breed who go out to eat in order to converse. We do not dine out in order to watch TV. If we did, we would either sit in the bar, or go to a sports bar/restaurant. Our dilemma is that thanks to Sunday, Monday and now Thursday night football, even places like El Tapatio have become sports bars instead of restaurants. And this breaks my heart because the food here is excellent! Fantastic ceviche, even here in land-locked Colorado. Amazing Shrimp Diablo. Well prepared, flavorful caldos (soups), full of vegetables and seafood swimming in a savory broth. We used to LOVE this place. And if they will ever create a TV-free zone in their establishment (sort of like a no smoking zone), we will come back. But until then, we will dine elsewhere. read more

Perhaps coming from New York I'm not as apt to "authentic" Mexican food as most, but certainly this is better than other chains I've been to. I have been here twice in the last month and a half, and I've decided it's a decent place for dinner, and the prices aren't bad. My favorite here is easily the (crispy) chile rellenos. The sauce is spicy, and the filling is decadent and rich. I've also ordered the chicken enchilada, which I did not care for, and the bean burrito, which was extremely saucy and bland. My husband ordered the pork tamales which were excellent. The free chips and smoky, spicy salsa are an added bonus. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Colorado. I mean this is coming from a professional server in San Diego ca. I work at a Mexican restaurant and I know what to expect. These servers were very attentive and gave us the best the service. They kept on checking on us. They took care of us. They treated us like we were the only people being served even though they were so busy. The food was great ,plates were huge ,the adobada tacos were delicious like the ones in San Diego the server was great and the manager even though he was busy took time to make sure we were happy until now that's the only restaurant with the best Mexican food the only thing here in Colorado the tortillas are cheap from Walmart,but it's ok is just in San Diego we have the possibility to get fresh tortillas flour o corn coming right from the comal overall was great!!!!! read more

We stopped by here for lunch and were blown away by the food, the service and the covid safety measures. This is the most safe I have felt in a restaurant in a while. My mom loves this place so when I flew in from California this weekend she recommended we eat there... First off amazing faijitas!!! So much meat and veggies and so flavorful. What really made my experience was Angel. My mom knows him from coming here all the time, what a great representative of amazing customer service. He made me feel welcome and at home. We've been going to the location in Golden on our way to and from the mountains for years - it's somewhere the whole family looks forward to eating. When we saw this location open near our house, we were very excited. Unfortunately, it just not the same. The food is decent and served unbelievably fast, but the atmosphere and quality just aren't the same. The staff was very friendly and frankly, too much. There were several tables, but they were staffed for capacity - too many people wanting to help. Additionally, they have too, too many TVs. The food was good and the portions are huge, especially on the combo platters. They start the meal with chips and salsa, but unlike the Golden location, they charge $1.75 for extra chips - pretty amateur. The salsa is great, and by great, I mean flavorful and spicy - it's not the bland, watered down stuff served at most Mexican restaurants. Overall, an okay choice for dinner. read more

I've been coming here regularly since it opened. Once every two months at least. A slight disappointment here or there but the food has always delivered. They have a street taco platter that brings the street to your plate. Five street tacos of different meat filling.... and on the side for building materials...... green onions, radishes, grilled jalapeno, and 4 sauces to add at will. Really good! Our 6yo loves the taco burger aka burger quesadilla. I would normally say it's a 4 out of 5 stars but feel I should offset the haters. After reading the previous reviews....it's obvious how people like to complain before they give positive comments. This place does a lot of business and clearly people like what they are doing. Overall: This once was my favorite spot in the Flatirons area and I frequent it two times a week. Over the past month I have experienced a sharp decline in service, both food and bar. An entire group of bartenders vanished. Fired I guess. The employees are hush hush about the the three of them leaving (all were females) a few weeks ago, all at once and some of them had been there for a long time. Now it is chaos with temporary bartenders helping out and not keeping up at all. What is unbelievable is that I asked for a margarita, it was a custom but on menu's everywhere and he had no idea how to fix it. 15 minutes later after help from other patrons and wait staff he made it. (I did not ask for a second one. Terrible!) It is pretty standard Tex Mex food but they did a good job with the presentation. This week the plates are delivered with the food looking like it was dropped from 5 or 6 feet above the plate. Service: here lately barely so so Food: ok Bar: so so and on the decline Because of convenience I will tolerate once a week at the most. The owners/operators of this location need to take a step back and make sure they have the right people managing. There is something that changed to make it go from what I would rank a 4 out of 5 down to a 2! read more

We have been coming here for years, along with another couple. Yes, we we know the expectations of the food, but it's close to our house and a tradition. We are used to the fact the service could be tough, especially with all of these people sitting home with their Biden cash and not working. However, we had a next-level rude, stressed-out, hurried and downright angry and skipped the order for someone at our table. This experience was with the manager, G. Literally rushed us to order and was slamming things (he was bartending and waiting). Fortunately, a professional waitress came over and confirmed our order and got the order for the person G skipped. G was extremely unprofessional and angry, accusing us of changing the whole order, which was not true. He did this by yelling at us to the table from inside the bar, instead of coming over to our table. We just added the person's order who had been skipped. Very surprised to learn of the lack of 5 star reviews for El Tapatio. With generous portions, fresh ingredients, and friendly service, what is not to like?! Come in with a light stomach and prepare to take some to-go. Also, I highly recommend the nachos as an appetizer. read more
