Only ate a sit-down meal once and the plate was huge and filled with fresh and delicious authentic Mexican food. Service was superb. The best-kept secret, though, is takeout from El Tapatio. You can order a flauta for $1.95 and it is crispy and full of chicken or beef and smothered in guacamole and sour cream. Order a crispy chili cheese relleno and there's so much lettuce and sauce, it's a meal and leftovers for less than $4. Order a beef or bean taco and they load it up so much that you are happy to find they tucked in a second taco shell because it is so much fresh food for less than $3. read more

The service was slow. My steak fajitas came out cold and barely had enough stringy meat to make one fajita. When I complained to the manager he said the way I looked at him was offensive. This place was okay. The service was quite slow and this is in part why I'm giving this place 3 stars. The staff was friendly. My steak was good but my husband's burrito deluxe was wrong. Just left here and am super pissed. My husband and I go there a couple times a month. Usually we just hand the server our card when we are done. This time i did the same thing but when he brought it back i thought it was too high and asked for a receipt as one was not in the book. I thought maybe he charged the wrong table. So when he brings me the receipt i notice there is a 20% gratuity added. I dont expect thst to be added on a party for 2. I checked the sign slip and it was not noted there either. So we werent told,there is nothing anywhere except the original bill. If this is your practice you need to let your customers know. I know the last few times we went we ended up tipping 40 to 50 percent because of this and the service does not warrant that much. I feel ripped off by this deceitful practice and while i should have looked at the bill first the previous times who expects a gratuity will be added on a party of 2???? I am a server and am appalled at this. I have never heard of such a thing. This is a warning to anyone who eats there dont end up tipping 20 plus on a 50 dollar bill. I know i will never go back. This is the 2nd bad experience there, i should have learned after the first one when the manager was rude. I love it when you roll the dice and take a chance on a new place and it ends up being great. Unfortunately this was not one of those times. We rolled in at 5 pm on a Friday and were sat immediately and got a drink order in right away. Good start. We were brought a free basket of stale chips and bland, runny salsa. How do you get stale chips at a Mexican restaurant? Okay, so we decide to try the queso fundido to start with. The dip itself was delicious. I love the chorizo and whats not to love aboutvmelted cheese and jalapenos. Unfortunately, the tortillas were something straight out of a package from the grocery store. I was hoping for something a little more authentic. For my entree I decided on the Mole Enchiladas and my boyfriend got the shrimp tacos. The mole sauce was terrible! Overly sweet and runny and lacking any kind of spice or character. It was like someone melted a chocolate bar and mixed it with chili powder and water. The tacos were not very impressive either. Those same damn tortillas filled with a little bit of diced shrimp and some veggies. The rice and beans were run of the mill. Service also slowed down significantly. All in all this was not even close to being worth the price. We won't be back. read more

The service is slow as usual. Takes them 10 minutes to check back. Here was my experience. I asked for the cheese enchiladas (i'm a vegetarian). My meal came out with a sauce that had meat in it. So after 15 minutes when he came back, I told him. He got me a new plate with the red sauce that had no meat in it. I noticed things didn't look like the first time it came out. The enchilada still had a cut that I made in it to try the food before I noticed the meat. So they just switched plates and put the red sauce on the new plate with the old food. Obviously they don't know about food health laws. I'm a server at a restaurant and that would never fly! I decided to get up and leave. I wonder if they would do the same thing to someone with allergies to certain foods? My server was just sitting down talking to a co-worker. I tipped him and left. I shouldn't have even tipped him, but like I said I'm a server so I felt bad. Even though I'm sure he knows the kitchen did that. read more

My wife and I eat here 2-3 times a month. Both the food and the service are about as good as it gets. Some other reviews were not as positive, all I can think of is that they have only been open a year, maybe those folks came in before El Tapatio got into their groove. Even if we are on the other side of Denver we still drag our friends back to Golden to eat here, we love it that much. Margs are delicious but on the pricey end, food is both delicious and reasonably priced. Portions are substantial. read more

I'm surprised this place is still in business. First visit here and certainly will not be going back. Margaritas were the wateriest I have ever tasted, and that should have been a sign of things to come. After a longer than usual wait, we ordered food. No big deal right? 30 minutes later we started to wonder. After 45 minutes we decided to give them a few more minutes before we would just pay for the margs and leave. Well, those minutes came and went and so one of our party went inside to inform the wait staff that we would like to pay for the drinks and leave. Lo and behold, she checked back in the kitchen and the food was magically ready. Food was bland, not horrendous, but certainly not anything special. Very poor experience. Walked in and there were no clean tables even though they were not busy. Menus were sticky. The food came out fast - too fast. Literally a handful of minutes. Must have microwaved it or had it sitting for a longtime. We asked to change the channel on the TV to the Sharks game. I live across the street from this restaurant. I appreciate their location. I occasionally get take out. In recent months, I have chosen them as the main restaurant to meet friends for lunch due to the convenient location. In the past their food and service have been acceptable. However, an incident tonight has them off my list. Earlier this evening I called to see when they closed. I was told 10pm. My takeout order usually just takes 5-10 minutes so I called at 10:42pm. I was told they had closed early since no customers were in the restaurant. Not keeping published hours is unacceptable to me. I talked to the manager. He apologized they could not fill my order but stood behind their decision to close early. I asked for some store credit for a future order so they could retain me as a customer. He refused to do anything to make this situation right. So, due to this poor customer service, I do not plan eat there again. I will miss them. read more

Just know it is absolutely horrific horrific horrific and nonexistent service which is then defended with insolence and indignation. The food is totally average and well overpriced for that. I was very disappointed at this restraint the second time. I had been there before and the food and service was reasonable, however this time was a nightmare. The service was terrible. We waited about 20 minutes if not longer before our order was taken and another 30-40 minutes before our order came. When the waitress came to take our order she thanked us for waiting. I guess that was her way of apologizing for keeping us waiting. I ordered shredded beef tacos. The shredded beef taco meat was in big chunks, dry and tough. So I had a tough time swallowing and biting into the meat. We thought about sending it back but since we had waited so long and the waitress did not come back while we were eating to check on how we were doing, I continued to eat it by mashing the meat. The waitress never came back to check to see if every thing was ok. After finishing our food, the waitress came back and wanted to know if everything was ok at which time I expressed that the shredded beef was the worst beef I had ever had at a Mexican restaurant. She said she was sorry and left to get the manager. A woman who did not identify herself as a manager came back and immediately and angrily asked what was wrong and I expressed my opinion about the terrible shredded beef and she proceeded to question me as to why I had eaten the meat and continued to ask why, "why did you eat the meat"? she repeated it several times at which point I became angry and asked her why was she arguing with me and I continued to tell her to get away from and give me the bill so I could leave and she continued to yell at me asking me why had I eaten the meat at which time I told her to leave me alone and get away from me. She then left angrily telling me not to yell at her because she was calling the police. I was glad to get out of there and I will never return to that restaurant. Can I give 0 stars? I am a former server and very generous when it comes to reasons why something maybe off, but this was fairly ridiculous. The food is pretty bland and the drinks made us wonder if we got virgins. We aren't sure who are server was because we had three. If I could give half a star... I would. I am traveling all the way from Texas (birthday trip) and we were craving some seafood in this gorgeous town! Once coming into the town we were drawn in by the advertising sign "BEST SEAFOOD IN TOWN" I know not to fully trust a sign but we thought why not give it a chance. We walked in and the employees preferred to speak Spanish not a problem at least one of us speaks Spanish (me) how bad could it be. AYE CHINGADO!!! Were we wrong: this place had the rudest employees and the food took well of 30-45 min (we were legit THE ONLY TABLE THERE) and it was NOT worth it. We each paid $20 per person. We were all soo displeased. The best part is THE SEAFOOD WAS HORRIBLE it was like frozen shrimp that had been forgotten about and brought out for the tourist. Food is below average while prices are above average. Nickeled & dimed for every little thing - $1.50 for about an ounce of diced tomatoes & don't even think about asking for a side of sour cream! The real kicker was when our party of 8 asked for individual checks & the already disappointing waiter said "no, the boss says you can't have separate checks." I argued with him that I'd never heard of such a thing & then asked to speak to "the boss" & guess who it was? Him! Ordered some tacos barbacoa-- it was fine. A little bland on its own but the hot sauce was good. My friend ordered some shrimp wrapped in bacon and that was excellent (but how can you mess up anything with bacon and cheese?). We have been a steady customer of this restaurant for at least 10 years. We came in for lunch today and the hostess seated us. The restaurant was 75 percent empty since it was 2:00 pm. We sat there for 20 minutes and no one even came by and offered us water even though they were serving the table right next to us. They wouldn't even look in our direction! We got up and left. I realized that I had left our umbrella there and went back 2 hours later to retrieve it. The hostess recognized me and apologized and offered to seat and serve us then...2 hours later. Really? Beware of this place. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a restaurant, bar none. Seriously, It was so bad, I'm still shocked by what took place and the attitude of the manager. Their website says, "Customer satisfaction is our # 1 priority"...not even close. If you eat here, you've been warned. On a recent visit, they called the police on me for refusing to pay for their mistake - no joke. I ordered an egg and potato burrito with guacamole. They served me a completely different burrito with chicken and various other ingredients - no egg or potato to be seen. After a 20 minute disappearance from our waitress (also the manager), I let her know that I was brought the wrong item, and that when I cut it open, it was abundantly clear and I did not take a single bite. I also told her that we had been waiting for so long we were just going to leave and asked her to please remove it from our ticket. She shrugged and walked off. After another wait, she dropped off our check without saying a word. When I went to pay the bill, I realized that the wrong burrito was still on the ticket. I again asked the waitress to remove the item and she refused. (I've never, ever, not even once, done this in my life.) I told her that I would happily pay for my friends meal, but I should not have to pay for their mistake. She informed me that I MUST pay for the wrong burrito or she would call the police. I simply told her no and we left payment for my friends meal and left the restaurant. Without missing a beat, she called the police and actually followed us into the parking lot to try and collect additional payment. I was as polite as possible under the circumstances and again told her I refused to pay for their mistake, especially since I didn't take a single bite of the "meat" burrito. To wrap this up, an officer actually pulled me over a short distance from the restaurant and I had to explain the circumstances to him. I was asked to pay the $10 difference, or receive a ticket for theft. Wow. I'll told the officer to write me the ticket and I then went straight to Chipolte for a better lunch. read more

Think twice about visiting this restaurant. My friend & I arrived about 11:25 AM last week and was given regular menus. After I finished my meal, which was not what I ordered to begin with, I asked to see the menu again to order takeout. Then, I was asked if I wanted the lunch menu or regular. I asked to speak to a mgr. and a guy named Julio came over. When I asked why I wasn't given the lunch menu, his answer was "you didn't ask for it". I responded that I was here at lunch and shouldn't have to ask.. I asked for some kind of discount as I really felt it was unfair treatment and he said : Absolutely Not!!. I still tried to reason with him, but he said "No way. I now have my doubts that he was a manager and am very resentful towards this restaurant. I would not go there or any other El Patio, even if friends asked me to. I am 72 and have never been treated so rudely. Also, watch for being charged $2 for a refill on chips. Do you know of any other Mexican restaurant that charges you extra for chips & salsa when you order a meal? This place is bad news. read more

One star because 0 star is not an option. Went there Friday, Sept. 30, for HH and a meal. So not Happy and did not eat there. Reported to a Manager that an employee ran out of the stall in the Men's Room and left without washing his hands. Then, the Manager that ran out came to our table and argued with me that he did not have to wash his hands because he did not use the toilet. I told him that any employee in the rest room for ANY reason, MUST wash their hands in the sinks provided. He argued and argued. No way we will eat there. And, check out their FOOD INSPECTION from Jefferson County Public Health the day before that...they received 8 CRITICAL VIOLATIONS and one was for NOT WASHING HANDS. The follow-up inspection on 10/04 they were written up for 8 CRITICAL VIOLATIONS, AGAIN. And, you guessed it, NOT WASHING HANDS WAS NOTED AGAIN. Not good, El Tapatio!! I rarely dine out but I have to say that the service I received was among some of the best. I frequented Brio in Downtown Denver before it closed as well as Willie G's, I am pulled more toward fine dining restaurants but I took a chance with a friend and was not displeased. The service was more of a familial feel, the servers always had a smile on their face and were very attentive to the needs of customers. I have only one complaint and it is no issue of the establishment but rather two rude guests. My friend and I were sat in a back booth, they let us choose of course, from the moment we sat down we heard the two people in front of us complaining about food being too hot and service being unacceptable. We had the same server as the displeased guests, his name was Antonio and I did not get his last name. As my friend and I ate, he asked if we needed anything else, joked and smiled with us, even going so far as to ask if we wanted him to take a picture of us seeing as we could not get good angle. He remained calm and diligent even with the two people in front of us badgering him. Everything came to a head for me when they started to condescend to our waiter, reprimanding him as though it was his fault that the establishment charged for extra sides. I stood up and told our waiter Antonio that he was doing a great job and we had more than a pleasing experience, I was expecting sub par service and food because I do have a taste for fine dining but this location has far exceeded my expectations. I will be back, I will tell my friends to eat there and I hope that our waiter gets recognition not only for his patience but also for his phenomenal and out standing work ethic.
