This restaurant specializes in seafood, and they do it well. I really enjoyed my shrimp tacos - shrimp sauteed with tomatoes, onions, spices and jalapenos on three corn tortillas with a side serving of fresh and delicious guac and pico de gallo. My boyfriend has had the shrimp cocktail and the seafood cocktail and he enjoyed them both. The chips and salsa they serve before your meal were great. The chips were warm and the salsa was nice and spicy and laced with a touch of fresh cilantro. There is another location on Alameda in Lakewood. They are equally good. The service was great and the two times I've visited this location they were thoroughly cleaning the unused areas of the restaurant, which I consider a good sign if you like a clean restaurant. read more

Don't be scared of the low star rating here because the food and the views of table mountain on the patio here will rock your socks off. They're more pricey than the higher rated Mexican restaurants in Golden but they're the best. I'd recommend a combo plate. read more

this is basic, no frills, tex-mex. my friend asked for no cheese, they brought out a dish with cheese and basically said "here's a dish with cheese, order something else if you want to wait another 10 minutes" my tacos were not great. two of three has stale taco shells. Food was good and fast. I ordered the tacos de carnitas and the meat was melt in your mouth tender with crispy bits that added a delicious texture and flavor. The green chile was good, but tasted a bit like flour. The guacamole was creamy and fresh. I'm not sure why the rating are so low, I suggest taking a chance on this place. read more

I was blown away at what I was eating... not kidding. Especially because Golden/Lakewood has so many great mexican spots. I had a simple street taco plate, but I ordered ground beef. Normally, that can turn out to be a bad decision for Mexican food, but holy cow, the ground beef was so fine it melted in my mouth... think fine like couscous! I was almost swayed into not eating dinner here because of the bad reviews a couple months back, but my gf (who is a picky eater) and I loved it! My coworkers love it, too. Check it out. This might be the worst restaurant service experience I have ever had. We show up and are seated for 5 minutes before we are even acknowledged. Someone dropped off a stale basket of chips which we finished before we ever even saw a server. No water no drink order, just sitting there parched when we realized that we were in for a three hour dinner. Unfortunately I can't comment on the food, never got the opportunity to order. Yes. 1Star. After a few times of incredibly slow service. Today we were the first customers in the restaurant. We can placed our simple order (sharing a combo plate), at 11:10. We also ordered two margaritas which came quickly. About 15-20 minutes later the waitress came and apologize that our food was not ready (something about the kitchen), but it would be up soon. 15 minutes later still no food. After another 5 minutes with things to do, we decided to pay for our margs and leave. NO apology, NO offer to cover the margs... we are done with this location. read more

They should be embarrassed by their Chile Relleno plate. I ordered the fried and I got two squares of something that looked like it was bought in a frozen processed food aisle, or visualize something from a convenience gas station. The poblano inside was 1"x2" of flat tasteless vegetable with some runny white cheese flavored juice. Here's a tip. Google Chili Relleno and go to a different restaurant. The fact that they even served this says a lot about all the other healthy details that may be left out. But if you like it, go to your local grocery stores freezer section and you can find the same garbage for half the cost. read more

This place was so very disappointing on so many levels. First off it took over 20 min. just for them to come take our order. The restaurant was almost empty (on a Saturday night) and we were on the patio with one other table of only 4 people. There were about 4 employees just loitering around on the patio this entire time. I ordered the special which was their shrimp scampi (they're supposedly famous for their seafood) and the hubby ordered nachos as his meal. It took almost another 30 min. for the food to come. The full shells are served on this very messy shrimp so you have to peel them to eat them, I didn't know this otherwise I wouldn't have gotten them but, okay so that's their style, I get it BUT even shell-on shrimp should be CLEANED!!! After my first shrimp I was totally grossed out by the poop vein still in ALL the shrimp. I immediately lost my appetite and called someone over as our server was nowhere to be found. I told another employee my issue and she said that just how they're served, seriously, I asked if they always serve dirty shrimp. she said yes and just walked away. Eventually after my husband was done eating the server showed up and asked if I enjoyed my meal. I said no and again explained my problem and he didn't apologize just took my full plate and walked away. After about 5 min. I guess the manager came out and said they always served she'll-on shrimp that way. I've had shrimp scampi at other Mexican restaurants and never had this issue. He took a whopping $3.95 off of my uneaten $20 meal. WOW how generous. I sat there another 10 min. waiting to pay nobody even showed up. I went to the front counter, waited even longer and nobody ever came. I was so upset I literally threw the only cash I had on the counter (exact change, no tip) and walked out. They may have a beautiful location and a nice patio but since the food is disgusting and the service stinks, I for one won't ever go back! read more

I've been to this location of El Tapatio a number of times over the last several years. What El Tapatio offers is consistent food in a comfortable location with stunning mountain views. The quality of the food really varies from one dish to another. Most of the combo plates are fairly good, but pretty standard for what you'd find at other restaurants. Some of the more traditional Mexican dishes are even better, particularly the carnitas. I ate here for dinner tonight and ordered a combo plate of perfectly fine food. The real standout on my plate was the chile relleno which was great. Unfortunately, there were a number of downsides to dinner. The first problem was that they were blaring the radio so loud over the restaurant speaker's that it was nearly impossible to converse around the table. The music wasn't particularly good, and given the atmosphere of the restaurant there was no reason that it needed to be that loud. The worst part was that whatever was playing even had an occasional commercial- which is clearly lame. The second problem was relatively mediocre service. It drives me nuts to sit at a table for an extended time with an empty drink glass (I was left empty between 5-10 minutes), and when this happens it tends to taint my view of the service over all. I'm always willing to forgive servers in particularly difficult circumstances, but they weren't terribly busy, and there was no reason that our waiter couldn't have simply checked how we were doing (in the end it was a busser who refilled drinks, I'm not sure we ever saw the waiter again after he brought our food). These problems certainly weren't enough to ruin a dinner, but they are absolutely the difference between a 3 or a 4 star rating. There is room for improvement, but I'm sure I'll be back here at some point. read more

Just okay. Had a combo plate with chile rellano, cheese enchilada and beef burrito. I find most of their food is just a big gut bomb, except for the bacon wrapped shrimp which are very good. The salsa with the chips was flavorful and I probably ate more of that than I should have eaten. This regional chain is opening up locations all over the place, so I imagine there are lots of folks who like this place. read more

What happen to you? The service was no existent. The bus boy took our order. It would have been so bad but all the servers were standing by the kitchen. Not as if you could see us we weren't in the back or the patio but right by the window 2nd booth from the front door. The wait for food was very long. The food was bland. This used to be the place to go for Camarones Rellenos not anymore. How can bacon and shrimp be bland? I guess if you want very bland Mexican food this is the place. Used to be so good. Not any more. Food is not bad. I love their Spanish rice. I personally think they are overpriced. The wait staff was a little much when they kept asking how the food was every time they walked by. Minimum of 3x is fine. It has a great menu for childern. They need to get coloring menus and crayons to keep the kids more entertained. It's an older building. So atmosphere is Latino antique. Since its close to my home I keep trying it in the hope they will do something about their service but no luck yet. The waitresses are horrible! Worst customer service! Could not get napkins, drinks or silverware without asking 4-5 times. When I finally got the food, it was soggy and cold. Went to this location with a couple friends to watch the Cubs game. Didn't even get to try the food thanks to a waiter who was beyond rude. He made the lighting very bright. We asked politely for him to turn the light down explaining that we had a member of our part with a disability that was effected by bright lighting. Another staff member was kind enough to fill our request. However, this waiter promptly turned the lighting bright once more. He then yelled at us, and returned to the kitchen cussing us out in Spanish. It was one of the worst service experiences. I speak enough Spanish to know not to repeat what he called us. He then. BEWARE OF FRAUD! Went in for lunch with one other person. Looked at bank statement a week later and they ran credit card 3 times costing almost 150 extra dollars. Called asked for a refund as I understand these things happen, and was willing to send a picture of bank statement. GM Tony told me they could not give me a refund unless I physically went back in with a bank statement, a picture ID and my credit card to scan and that this happens regularly and everyone else was okay with this. This location has horrible employees! A few members of our party have disabilities. Soon after being seated the lights were turned to super bright. We asked nicely for the lights to be dimmed. The lights were turned slightly dim. When asked again nicely the waiter started yelling saying the lights must be turned on bright per management. When asked to speak with management we were told no and they basically refused to serve us. We walked out in complete disbelief. Do not give this location your business!
