Nice Mexican food with huge portions! I ordered a shrimp entree, it was made in a spicy sauce with potatoes. It had a side of beans, rice, and some sort of Mexican coleslaw (no mayo). The meal had the right amount of heat to it. There was so much food, I ate the leftovers for 2 more meals. I had the Rosita Margarita, nice and flavorful, but over priced in my option, it was $9.50. For it's size, I felt it was over priced. The server was very sweet and patient, my girlfriend and I were gabbing for a while before we decided what we wanted so the waitress brought out chips and salsa to snack on. Stopped in here for lunch and was shocked at how empty it was! Started off with complimentary chips and salsa which is always nice. We both ordered a house margarita to go along with our meals. The salsa just appeared to be canned tomato sauce with a few spices thrown in. I was hoping for something a bit more authentic. With regards to the margaritas, there were various ones to chose from but we stuck with the house. I feel like as a Mexican restaurant, you need to have a killer margarita...these let me down. They were overbearingly sweet (I had to water mine down to drink it) and had very little alcohol which was unfortunate for the price. On a positive note the service was great and food came out quickly. We ordered a side of guacamole for our chips which was delicious! Our meals were good but nothing special. We stopped at this run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurant on the way to Jamestown. On one hand, I ordered a shrimp quesadilla, which came out exactly as you'd expect: flour tortilla and cheese with all the works like sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce. I can't say it had much flavor-it tasted like a typically bland quesadilla one might get at an American-Mexican joint like this. On the other hand, my friends liked their food quite a bit (enthusiasm may be partly attributable to the margaritas they ordered, which came in giant glasses filled to the brim). The crab enchilada was reviewed as well above average, the vegetarian burrito was described as saucy and delicious, and the beef fajitas seemed well appreciated. The food came very quickly, and the servers were more than attentive. If you are craving Mexican food, and you live close by, why not check it out. I ordered takeout delivery via DoorDash. I got the carne asada, and was excited to see sopapillas on the menu. As someone who spent more than half my life in the west, I can tell you that finding sopapillas anywhere in the east has been virtually impossible. (To be honest, I'm finding what I consider to be a good Mexican food anywhere in the east has been challenging!) I'm relatively new to the area; I arrived less than a month before lockdown and delivery is my primary way of experiencing new restaurants for the time being. I was quite disappointed in this first-time experience. The carne asada was incredibly greasy and not particularly flavorful. The rice and beans were just OK. I was surprised that tortillas weren't included. The salsa was good, but not nearly enough. I think the sopapillas probably are good on site; but by the time they got to me they were soggy and kind of gross. I would advise putting the toppings on the side for a better experience for the takeout customer. Overall this turned out to be a waste of money. For the price, I expected far more. read more

Lived in CA for most of my life. Good Mexican restaurants are easy to find there. When we moved to RI we found very few in our area, so we were very pleased to find El Tapatio. I would rate everything that is important, 5 stars: Food, cordiality, cleanliness, attentiveness. Being in a repurposed ihop is a little on the humorous side, and perhaps is lacking in Mexican atmosphere; but I won't hold that against them. We stumbled upon this restaurant heading to Wickford and we are so glad we did. The food is delicious, service is great and from what we can tell they are adhering strictly to the COVID rules. Went to El Tapitio for the first time the other night, and I really enjoyed myself! First off, the margaritas were great and a good size too. For my entree I ordered 2 chicken tacos and those were good too! The only complaint would be the chicken could've had a stronger flavor but overall they were good. I was here with some of my family for a late lunch and it was pretty empty. The atmosphere is very generic of Mexican restaurants in the US, and the food was disappointing. Prices were a little high for lunch at a basic Mexican place ($12-15 each), and it seemed nothing had been seasoned. I tried several dishes and they were all very bland. I ate less than half of my fajita taco salad because the flavor was such a disappointment. Service was good and the employees seemed nice, but I have no desire to eat here again. read more

Food was ok. The selection is good but when the food comes out it looks nothing like the pictures in the menu. Got the fish tacos and although the tilapia fish was good, the tacos were soggy and not much filling. Again, nothing like the picture. Nothing like 3 soggy tacos for dinner. Service was ok at best. They were about at 60-70% capacity on Friday night as expected. I was just getting off work and was solo for this meal heading back to NH. I didn't get the attention the tables that had families and set-ups for 4 people got. If there was a full table the waitress went to them often to check to see if everything was ok. Not so much at my solo table. I had to keep sending smoke signals or flagging down the waitress if I needed something. That being said I wouldn't classify this as high end dining. The service is always superb and the food is always hot but the flavors are standard for Mexican food and don't stand out against some of my more memorable meals.
