This was a lovely experience, and one I wouldn't mind repeating. West Passage is right across from the Smith's Castle entrance on Post Road. Yes, it is a brewing company. Yes, there is a bar, BUT it is also a treasured North Kingstown breakfast spot. We arrived on Saturday morning--not crazy busy, but busy enough that having only one server and the owner working at around 10 a.m. did not bode well. That concern quickly faded once we placed our orders. The owner was gracious and helpful and did a good job managing the pace. Our party of three ordered the French Toast TX style -- from a very finicky member of our party making specific customizations -- all accommodated with a smile, a Crow's Nest Benny, and, for me, Tres Quesadilla. Hands down, this was the best presentation of a breakfast quesadilla I have ever ordered. Why? Just look at the accompanying picture. The tortillas were cut into smaller, easier-to-handle, triangular pieces. Tortillas can be messy to eat. The salt potato home fries are probably one of the Top 5 I've ever had in my life. No, really. Very subjective, yes, but if you like your home fries crispy on the outside and not soggy on the inside, flavorful--then you might agree. There are high-top tables and regular tables inside -- plenty of light streaming through the place. You can even have breakfast at the bar. There's also outside seating. The foyer with the living-room-style seating is charming and cozy. I've already been thinking about going back for drinks and sitting in this area. I recently moved to the area and decided to give West Passage Brewing a try on a busy Saturday night. The place was packed, which is always a good sign. Our server was excellent. She was friendly, engaging and patient with all of my questions. She even checked with the chef on a few things to accommodate my food allergies, which I truly appreciated. I didn't catch her name at the time, but my receipt says Carrie Ann - thank you for such great service! I had a delicious cocktail (even though the beer menu looked great too). The food is classic pub-style with a lot of fried options. My burger was really good and came on a nice gluten-free roll and my side salad was also fresh and tasty. Stopped in after a soccer game right up the road due to their convenient location. Facility was beautiful, bright and clean. We were promptly greeted and told we could sit anywhere since it was fairly quiet. Had a couple beers to start and they were on point for a place like this. The clam digger stout was my personal favorite as I'm pretty picky about my IPAs/hazies. It was nice to see a beer menu with some variety. Food was decent enough to complement the beer. I had the French dip. Beef was a little dry but had a nice au jus to reconstitute it. Wife had the nachos which were average and daughter had a chicken Caesar salad that was nice and crisp. I had a pleasant evening with two beers, a plate of fried pickle and some wifi to finish off the day. The staff probably thought it was odd that I wanted to sit in a quiet space but hey, that's me. They opened up a second dining room and I enjoyed the peace and quiet with my laptop. The beers? Delicious. The fried pickles? Tasty but I'd suggest smaller pieces. The staff? Friendly! I was a bit hesitant to choose West Passage for a get-together with friends last night when I found out they didn't take reservations. Having 10 adults and 2 children at 6:30pm was a gamble, but they accommodated us right away. Food: We loved everything (pics posted), but the Gould Island Cheese Steak is a must-try. Drinks: The only complaint I have is the Scotch selection, they don't carry the typical ones like Macallan or Dewers. Balvenie was available, but you may prefer Jameson or one of their bourbons instead. Seating: There are high top tables and regular tables in the dining area, as well as a spacious bar and a ladies and men's room near the entrance. For functions, there is also a room to the right when entering. Service: Becca, our server, provided excellent service. I found her to be extremely attentive and friendly. Having frequented Gillians for years, it was sad to know this staple of North Kingstown was no longer there, but West Passage Brewery has renovated this establishment serving great food and excellent service for us. Be patient, but the beer and food are definitely worth it. We arrived just after 6 p.m. on a Saturday night (without a reservation) and the rooms were packed. We grabbed a high-top table in the smaller room and took a look at the beer and food menu on our phones as we waited to be served. The wait staff were clearly short-handed but the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. It was our first time at West Passage, so I wanted to try a flight of the darker beers so I had Full Keel Brown Ale, Accidental Red Lager, Deliberate Porter, and Clam Digger's Stout. All were very good. For dinner, we enjoyed the nachos as an appetizer and then burgers and fries. I tried out the Peanut Butter Whiskey steak burger and ended up taking half of it home because it was so filling. The peanut butter whiskey glaze might sound a little weird but paired with a raspberry sauce, onions, candied bacon, along with cheddar cheese and lettuce - it was delish! My only negative was that it took a long time for our drink order to be taken and for the food to arrive. But, as I said the wait was worth it. read more

It's the old Gillian's! and looks nothing like how it did. I only went once and it was dark with old decor. Actually, a dive bar at that. This place has a lot of light and modern decor. They accept reservation for large groups. Scott answered our call, was super friendly and easily made our reservation. FYI- they have been open for 6 months. We get to West passage and were seated immediately. We actually had our own room with a large TV showing college football. There were 7 of us. Scott came to say hi and low and behold he is the owner! Chatted it up with us then invited us to tour the brew area. Heck yeah we followed him. He broke every step down in the brew process. This guy is thorough and passionate. The brewery is immaculately clean! Really impressed. I shared food so I got to try a few things. Here is my pecking order of what I had in order of favorite: 1. Peanut butter whiskey burger-raspberry on a burger? No I am not going to like it... or I am! yes I am! It was the perfect balance of raspberry to all the other flavors happening here and it was delicious! 2. The med- This fig pizza is made like any other regular pizza where fig is spread like red sauce, with the fixing under the cheese and it was loaded with goodness. Maybe a little too much greens on top but loved the excessive nature of this pizza. 3. Chipotle BBQ wings- Decent flavor, plenty of sauce just wish the sauce was cooked into it a little more. 4. Tri-tip street tacos- lacked a bit of flavor. But their nachos served with them were super salty and crispy. Are these house made? Either way they were good. I ordered a girly drink. It was on the menu as a coconut/pineapple margarita but I swapped tequila for rum. Good size. Great flavor and first time I had ever had a coconut rimmed glass. Coconut was everywhere! Everyone else had beer. The reviews were good beer but can taste that it was fresh brewed. Need a little more age. I wish this brewery well and I plan to make a return. Best wishes Scott! read more

The drinks are fine, but I have given this place two tries for food, and they have failed both. My fiance is the least picky person on earth and even he admitted the pizza/flatbread he ordered was not edible - the hot honey? Located in North Kingston, RI is this old motel turned brewery. With a fun atmosphere and friendly staff this is a must stop if you are in the area. With a great selection of beers and hard seltzer including their own, this is a great place to spend the afternoon. I high a flight of hard seltzers, I couldn't pick just one. My husband had a Headless Horseman beer. For an appetizer we had pretzels and beer cheese, yum. For our main meal, my daughter had a burger, my husband had a Ruben and I had chicken tacos. Sitting in parking lot waiting for them to open --the scent of barbecue was driving us nuts! We reviewed the regular menu --there it was "Pulled Pork"... a staple on their menu. Lovely bartender puts order in---no pulled pork? (Owner says not done??) She suggests the "Pastrami Special" --oh yeah!! Minutes later--apologizing profusely --no pastrami. Hmmmm (Bear in mind--we are their FIRST customers of the day--there is no one else in the restaurant/brewery!!) Asked to see the owner. Very cavalier--almost disinterested. Hmmmm. Beers were good--not exceptionally cold. No chilled glasses. Beer-chilled glasses?? Hmmmm. This is a very cool place. Need to get their stuff together!! We will try them again. read more

The pricing is moderate to fair for the area, service is friendly and the ambience is above average (though it can definitely get loud at night)! While eating here we have fallen head over heals for both the burgers and multiple sandwiches but besides the delicious food I've been amazed by the promptness of service. I've been to many new restaurants and had mixed reviews but everything I've ordered here has come out so hot I had to let it sit before taking a bite! If that sounds like a complaint then I don't think you know how good works... I would recommend trying West Passage even if it's. A bit out of the way, and honestly if you live nearby it should be an absolute no brained to stop in! Definitely recommend dining in too, staff is super friendly. read more

West Passage is the old Gillian's Ale House and will forever be known as that in my town. The food is basic, the drinks could be better. The soundproofing inside is pretty rough and it's extremely echoey and loud. Bar staff is nice and the vibe they give is great. Love the decor. Beer is basic, nothing stands out as above and beyond. Their brunch on the weekend is decent enough, prices are average but nothing was exceptional. Overall I think this place is just average. This is the perfect place to bring picky eaters and anyone that isn't a beer snob because the older, boomer townies think it's great. Service was pretty good as it was quick, although I asked 3 times for malt vinegar and it finally appeared when I had 3 fries left, so I used my Aus jus as a dip. We eat here weekly so I guess we like it! We've had enough of the menu to know what's good or what isn't and whether or not chef might just be having a bad night when it isn't. All chefs do; they're human. But we eat here weekly for a reason. Never had a bad meal. The burgers are great. We particularly like the pulled pork tacos, steak tacos and the Gould Island steak sandwich. The pastrami reuben style? Divine if you can afford the calories. In the winter, you gotta have the chicken pot pie. It is not a frozen pie that came from a food distributor but one made from scratch. Just enough for one person to put you away for the night. They have a daily soup offering and we usually dive into that one no matter what else we order. Mondays are wing night and we haven't missed a Monday in weeks. Great deal! If we had only one not so great menu item, it would be the Mediterranean flatbread. Too much arugula drowns out the flavor of what is waiting for you underneath. A total of four orders were messed up and had to go back to the kitchen or bar 2. The beers were so-so and slow to get to our table 3. The food itself was ok at best. Don't order the beer cheese - it is super weird. 4. Food from other tables came our way, make sure you hold a sign that says "not mine" On the plus side, large parking lot. The hostess was very nice and personable. New furniture and interiors. Bathrooms are clean. Overall- just seems like a bunch of high school students running the show.
