Dying to try something new we went with Tijuana Burrito Grill. The inside is small, but typical for a burrito place. The staff seemed to be very friendly and rang up some drinks to go along with the order that I had placed online. They have more than just burritos and bowls on the menu, but I had to try the bowl to compare. I got a chicken bowl with their hot sauce, which I think ended up on my wife's (who doesn't like any spice) order because she had to call the Newport fire department to put out the blaze. I found the bowl to be very good, with a chipotle flavor hidden in there somewhere. We did get chips and queso as well. The queso was good, but the chips seemed to be a bit stale. I would definitely go back and try something more unique the next time. read more

In my humble but very true opinion, this is the most underrated place on Broadway. Tijuana is basically an authentic/better and reasonably priced chipotle. You can finish a burrito and not feel like you need to load up on tums after like you do post-chipotle burrito. This place is a gem and forever my favorite quick bite off Broadway! read more

Words cannot describe how much wonderful this place is! When I attended Salve, this was one of my friend group's favorite place to eat at. Since graduating and being back in Newport after a long 12 hour road trip... Tijuana was the only thing on my mind and I'm truly glad they are still around! It is a quaint and humble restaurant that has a menu on the wall and above the ordering station. Ordering is quite simple, there is a variety of "base" options you have available such as a burrito, burrito bowl, tacos, quesadilla, nachos, etc... Then, you go down the line for all the good toppings in a Chipotle-style manner. This time, I got the nachos and loaded them right up. The best part about this place is that they never skimp on the toppings. You get so much delicious food for about $11-13. My partner got a burrito nearly the size of his head! My son suggested we order from here and I'm so glad we did! I ordered the Birria tacos and was blown away by the intense flavor! Not to mention that the portion was such that these three tacos lasted me for 2 and 1/2 days (third day was lunch). You can be sure we'll be going back. Totally random and spontaneous visit. I pulled into a parking spot as soon as I saw the words, "tacos and burritos". But what I found was a super nice surprise... I just got back from Belize and I saw pupusa's on the menu. I ordered one chicken, one pork, one cheese. It comes with the side slaw in a separate baggie. I also had to try out their street corn in a cup. It did not disappoint! I'm already wanting to come back with my daughter. The service was friendly and I was greeted promptly to take my order. Tijuana makes some really good Mexican! The barbacoa burrito is massive in flavor and size. For about 10 bucks it's a good deal. The meat was tender and juicy. I added rice and beans as you can customize it as you want. The tortilla itself was so good. I think they make there. It's quick and easy Mexican food at a great price. read more

I'm happy places like this exist. It's definitely a no-frills place. You're not going for the comfy seats or fancy decor. You're going because you wanted decent, inexpensive food in an expensive city. My wife and I loved the pupusas as well as the tacos. Service was excellent. I'm looking forward to going back. I'm not sure if I just went on a bad day in the kitchen or what have you, but this is probably the worst bowl I've ever had. Very weird flavor. If you've ever had Mexican food you can tell this is nothing like it. I know I gotta give everything a second chance but I just don't really want to go back. My party of three is from the West Coast and we love authentic Mexican food. This place fits the bill! Fresh delicious food, served quick by friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant is cute and clean. We are here while visiting Newport and we would definitely come back here in a heartbeat during our next visit. My sister had the bowl and street corn in a cup. My mom and I got the taco salad. Came in here Sunday afternoon, the place is small and was super hot inside which made it difficult to eat inside so I took it to go.. the birria tacos come with cheese..which is very strange coming from someone who grew up going to Mexico every week and living there for years this place is very disappointing.. the birria is not at all comparable to birria the way my Mexican family would make.. it lacks flavor and shouldn't come with cheese unless otherwise specified.. not to mention the beef is too lean and was almost not consumable with the amount of cartilage I had to remove.. the consommé was like water very much lacking everything... craving anything remotely Mexican look towards chipotle and save yourself some $$$ or find yourself someone who can cook authentic Mexican because this place is not it.. read more

I'd rate this 4.5. All the flavors were on point. So delicious. Subtract half a star just for construction. They could drain some of the ingredients a little more before adding it to the bowl. But it was yummy so not complaining too much. read more

For the low price of $8.28, I was able to finesse this heaping tray of nachos from Tijuana Burrito Grill on Broadway in Newport * Now listen, when most people think of Newport, RI they think of the beautiful sights, the historical mansions, and money lots of it * To find an affordable meal in this city as a college student it can be extremely challenging yet these Chicken Nachos smothered in Queso blanco, pico de gaillo, Tijuana's house hot sauce, fresh corn, and even more cheese just goes to show that there are some gems in Newport for cheap eats * I am a hot sauce freak as well so I had to douse this cheesy goodness with some Mexican heat from @heatonist and @echandochile * By and large some of the best Mexican food on Aquidneck Island be sure to stop in soon and help support local businesses ‼ read more

Great option for a quick bite in Newport. Its nestled between a bunch of shops and restaurants and located close to the intersection of Broadway and Spring. I tried a chicken bowl with black and pinto bean, cilantro, and corn. The chicken was nicely seasoned and had a nice grill flavor. The veggies were fresh. I topped the bowl with a nice serving of the housemade hot sauce which was super flavorful and had a nice touch of heat. Definitely check it out! read more

Cute place for something different. The elote en vasso was great. The burrito I bought was packed full. In my opinion it was a bit pricey as I was nickel and dimed for extras like guacamole and queso so my final price was more than anticipated. The birria tacos were ok. Wish they had ice water. Great local spot for grab and go mexican. They have probably 3-4 tables so seating is a bit limited. You can't go wrong with any of their flavors but the barbacoa is probably my personal favorite. The Spanish style rice and cilantro options add a nice touch. The guac is really good and the chips come crispy with the perfect amount of salt. The horchata is really good as well if they haven't run out of it! The staff has always been friendly to me and I can't say enough positive things about this place. It's a local staple so feel free to drop in if you're feeling extra hungry. If you order online through their website, it's very easy. If you're looking to grab and go, doing the payment online is easy and they have a spot for pick up orders. Stopped off here spur of the minute, was craving authentic Mexican. Despite being a local and driving past this place a thousand times, we had never considered eating here or known anyone that has. Let me tell you, while this place may not look like much, the food is fantastic! You can build your own tacos, burritos or bowls. The food all looked very fresh and is of course made to order. We got a carnitas bowl that included Spanish rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce, corn and a few limes. We also tried to chips and queso. I am not sure if the chips are house made but they were perfect and the queso had just the right amount of kick to it. The prices are super reasonable and the portions are very generous. The staff was super friendly and the place was clean. This may very well become our new favorite spot!! read more

Good place for quick Mexican food in Newport. Got 3 tacos with carnitas and steak. Carnitas was ok, steak was bit dry. You can put any of the toppings available there. There was some trouble communicating as I had wanted three different meats but ended up getting 2 of the same. Overall good experience. read more

Decent place to eat unless you are a vegitarian. I have ordered a few times from this place and I usually get a vegitarian bowl or salad. I ordered again giving them the bennifit of the doubt because I work in the area and again there is meat in my salad.... Probably accidentally.... But that just makes them seem messy and not very clean with their food.... I brought this to their attention and they were rude and told me I was wrong and to "calm down" and that was it.... I will not order from here again and do not recommend. read more

At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes and drinks we'd love to try.
