This place should just close down and be done with it. Been to several El Taps in the area over the years and always has been consistent with the usual fare of their brethren with standard, budget friendly Mexican food. Apparently business is so bad that the managers have resorted to resurrecting old, stale, unused tortilla chips and reserving them. The chips were tough and many were burned brown in the retoasting effort to restore crisp. We requested a second batch but they weren't any better. They provided the tiniest amount of dipping salsa that I've ever seen. What the? The Mexican rice was extra dry like it too was being preserved to extend its life beyond good quality. BEST Mexican food I've ever had. Must try empanadas. Salsa is fresh and just spicy enough. Shrimp was cooked perfectly which is not easy. I always hesitate ordering shrimp in restaurants because of that. This place has it down pat. read more

Food is good. However, I am very unhappy that I submitted my order online and it wasn't ready when the person I had pick up the food got there. They had to wait 10 minutes with no response or excuse. I even called and talked to 2 people and nobody would provide to me an explanation. There are too many restaurants like this to have to deal with bad customer service. My first experience with El Tapatio was met with good food and service. When we were seated they served chips and salsa, the latter being very tasty. The food was reasonably priced for the portion size and were adorned with fresh pico or veggies. The kids meals are a great deal as they include a drink and are the perfect size for a school aged child. El Tapatio had pretty good food for the price, so if you're in the mood for some Mexican and a margarita they're worth a try. read more

This place is excellent. The best Mexican food I have had in Raleigh hands down. If you like spice, ask for a side of their hot smoky salsa. you will want to dunk your chips in it and also add some to your dish. I am a vegetarian and I LOVE the mushroom quesadilla . The mushrooms are marinated and taste almost chargrilled. Mixed with the cheese in the grilled tortilla is amazing. My friend who is not a vegetarian said the carne asada is tender and delicious. Also this may sound weird, but cheese they use is really good. I always order a cheese enchilada at Mexican restaurants because it is so simple that you can really get an idea of the quality of the ingredients with the most simple of dishes, and here its is delicious. I've eaten there twice this week and I think a combination of fresh ingredients and good service keeps me coming back for me. I am currently on a very low carb diet and their grilled salmon and shrimp just hits the spot. Went here to have dinner with my wife and son. As soon as we walked in the door I could feel the lack of energy and attentiveness from the hostess. They looked at us all rude as if we had interrupted their conversation and didn't even greet us. Like seriously If you don't like your job that much then why are you even there? The staff should do a better job of training all employees on customer service. At this point I decided that I would not be giving this business any of my money so we left without ordering anything. Not recommended! Customer service is a joke. The waitress I had couldn't understand English. I asked her what the special was and she thought I ordered it. She asked twice whether I wanted beef or chicken. I ordered beef and then got chicken. No one checked back with me to correct the mistake. I informed the waitress who got another waitress. Nothing was done even then. I asked for the corporate number when I was going out the door. The hostess didn't understand and got a manager. All in all there wasn't the least concern or offer to correct the issue. The food was mediocre at best. read more

The food was good (1 great, 3 good)...the service was terrible. We ordered a side of queso to go with our chips and FOUR were delivered, one for each person! Before the server even set them down we said we only ordered one....he apologized and insisted he leave them all but would only charge for one. We did not eat the extra and he charged us anyway....when we pointed it out he said "the manager" would only take off two! Suddenly he couldn't speak English well (which wasn't the case earlier) and we ended up paying without ever seeing a manager out of frustration and the time it was taking. read more

Welcome to Wakefield El Tapatio! I am so glad you decided to join us. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with gorgeous dark wood tables. And I am happy to say the food was delicious. I got the Enchiladas Tapatias which is 3 corn tortillas stuffed with queso fresco and topped with pork carnitas, a creamy tomatillo sauce and sour cream. My server was extremely friendly and very attentive. Let's show them some love so they will stick around!!! Yum... El Tapitio. I am so craving Mexican food now. Anyone who lives around Wake Forest area knows that we have an unlimited options for Mexican food. In face it seems like every new restaurant that opens is Mexican. El Tapitio is the best hands down. I love the San Cabo burrito. It is huge and stocked full of shrimp and pineapple and rice and onions and then topped off with cheese dip. It is drool worthy. Plus it is so big that I only eat half and then take the other half home for lunch the next day. One thing that El Tapitio does well is seafood. The shrimp is never overcooked and always taste fresh. Plus I love the service. All of the servers are terrific. Quick with refills and when you go there enough they even remember your drink order. Go to El Tapitio. Ask for Alfredo to be your waiter. This is quickly becoming my least favorite place to eat Mexican which really sucks because it's just around the corner from my house. First of all the chips are stale, there's no salt in the queso or salsa and the waitresses barely speak any English. I always order chicken fajitas which is not hard to screw up but if you buy that cheap rubbery shit they call chicken at those Mexican tiendas I see all over Raleigh, your fajitas won't taste any good. Flipping outstanding!!!!! This is a great local spot with good food at a great value. They have drink specials daily, my personal fav is Friday 34oz DosEquis special. The table made guacamole is on point! I go at least once a month but during the summer almost weekly for Margaritas. The enchiladas Tapatias are outstanding; and if you're a fajitas fan I always go with the Guadalajara. Haven't had a bad experience yet, great food and the staff are always very friendly. read more

Very quick and friendly service! The sweet tea is not tooo diabetic, just refreshing enough. I got the chicken fajita quesadilla. It was delicious, stuff with a generous portion of chicken, peppers, onions, and tons of cheese! I didn't like that the tortilla was fried, thought it would have been grilled or panini pressed. The table side guacamole was on point! The avocados were perfect and the seasoning (salt) with proportions to the other ingredients were perfect! It wasn't mashed tooo much either. Extremely good food and service! Brand new restaurant, so I hope it doesn't decline, but for now... Awesome. I had the flautas. So many restaurants overcook them, burning the meat. Not so with these! They were yummy, tender, and crispy all at the same time. DH had the pork carnitas and wow what flavor. My only complaint is the same nearly everywhere... Too stingy on the guacamole! My wife and I had dinner here tonight. They've been open for 6-7 weeks, and we thought we'd give it a shot--and were glad that we did. I got the two enchilada combo, which was very good. My wife got the carne asada burrito, which was MASSIVE. Seriously, it was the largest burrito we've ever seen. All of the food was great (including the chips and salsa, which were very fresh). The service was efficient and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back! read more
