My friend and I had a great time not only enjoying the food but chatting with loyal customers of this joint. Imagine two Asian women waiting for a table in a tiny little place filled with HIspanics... but within seconds, we were greeted by a family of two young parents, a grandmother, and two children. The couples enthusiastically introduced different dishes to us. When the husband saw that our table was kind of wobbling, he went ahead to clean out another table for us. He said "I don't want you to spill your soup." And, he's just a customer! Wow! We love the pork bone soup and the cheese enchiladas the family helped us order. We even took two additional orders home. A man came over and asked if we want to refill our coffee; we said yes, and he got us more coffee. He then sat down two tables away and started talking to us. He's another customer; well, a customer of 20 years. He said some times he'd come at 7:30 in the morning to help open up. Wow! I am impressed! It is a small place but it is clean, and people are nice! I spoke to the chef for a little while. He said to call him ahead of time, he'd make us fish soup or shrimp soup if I want. I don't review much on yelp. But I couldn't stand by and leave this awesome place without at least one more good review. El Taquito is the definition of a hole in the wall. Its sign is dwarfed by a lesser restaurant right next to it so it took me a second to realize where it was. But don't let that discourage you, El Taquito is THE best Mexican restaurant I've been to. The chef (I think his name is Martin) was incredibly nice, offering us free soup knowing that we were first time. He also moved our food and drinks for us when he realize that the table my mom chose was way too small to hold the food we ordered. The food itself was incredible. They serve free chips with two kinds of salsas. Chips and salsa are both homemade. I ordered the carnitas plate which comes with beans, rice, salad tortillas and a heaping pile of pig. They aren't messing around here. The carnitas was perfectly moist and tender. Mixed with the salad and some habanera salsa it made for a taco that rivaled any I've ever eaten. The rice, beans and salad are all homemade as well. Sensing a trend? They were equally delicious. The rice was fluffy and had just the right amount of flavor. The beans were completely unlike those you'd find at most Mexican restaurants. And the salad was very fresh. They do charge $0.50 for using a credit card but that was a small price to pay for a meal that I'll probably come back to repeat many times. Upon finishing the chef asked us how our meal was and truly wanted to know if we enjoyed it. He was clearly passionate about his work, even mentioning off menu items that he could make if we came back. Ever since La Familia closed in south El Monte I've struggled finding a good menudo place. That is till I found Los Tacos the menudo is different from La Familia but still has a great taste. Slow down and look north. You will miss this place if you blink. The hole in the wall exterior is very deceiving. The restaurant opens into two dining areas that flank both sides of the counter and kitchen. With cotto tiles and deep red walls it reminds me of establishments down south. The menu is straight forward and simple. Dine in patrons get tostada chips and salsa. Sodas are bottled and fountains drinks are jamaica and horchata. I've been here multiple time and have tried all the meats. My favorites are the lengua, pastor, and carnitas. The asada is a hit and miss. Hit when you get the good cut without all the connective and tough pieces. Miss when you have to spit while you eat. The salsa verde is out of this world. The area does need a good deep clean. The floors and tables are sticky. The cabinet counter is stained and water damaged. Great for take out. I can enjoy their good food on my own sticky chair and table. Solid 3.5 stars. Went to El Taquito with my supervisor. We were both famished and I just can't say no to Mexican food. El Taquito has a small parking lot that can prolly fit about 10-12 cars comfortably. It's by residential area so I don't think parking will be a huge issue here. The decor is reminiscent of hole in the wall places. The cashier that took our order was super nice. She recommended us their popular dishes. My supervisor got the daily special (wet burrito) and I got myself an al pastor burrito. Both our food came out in timely manner. The portion size is pretty big. Al pastor was marinaded pretty well. It wasn't the best I've ever had but it was solid indeed. The burrito also had lots of meat, so they don't really skimp out on the meat. My supervisor's wet burrito was a hit with him. He gulfed it down and raved about how spicy but good it was. He did mention that the wet burrito didn't have enough cheese on the outside but oh well. Had high hopes for this spot because if you're gonna grab Mexican food in a high in the hole, then you expect it to be super damn authentically good. I got my carne asada burrito wet, which apparently they're known for but that didn't save the inside from being dry dry dry. Apart from the ingredients inside the burrito being dry and not flavorful, the sauce on the top didn't do much for me either. It was bland and I just didn't enjoy the flavor of it. Made to order, all of my food was perfect. The beans were also really good and the sopes were also crispy even after I got home! The chile is really good with a nice lil kick!! Yaaaayyy I found my new official mexi takeout spot. Thanks to other fellow yelpers, I was in search for a new taco/burrito spot since my old place in Pico closed down and found this place as highly rated. We're hard core about asada tacos and most places always leave pieces of fat in the asada that they chop it into lil bitty pieces that they think you can't tell, but you can and you know what its like when you pull that stringy crap out....kills the appetite. But enough about the bad stuff, this place is fantastic! I have come here more then once just to make sure, and each time pure deliciouso hog heaven! Both the wet/dry burrito are great, depends really on your mood, but each time my hubby and I rec'd no fat on the asada, including his giant filled asada burrito, not a hint of fattyiness. Fresh salsa pretty good and moderate wait time for your food. The people here are really friendly, listen carefully to your order and there's a lot of love/prep that goes into the making of their food. I've always been a bean/cheese fan and the burritos along with the sides are excellent. Solid 4 stars. Came in for lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. There was only one server, Ruby, working and she was busy serving and bussing tables. I ordered three different tacos and my partner ordered a wet carnitas burritos with green sauce. Ruby brought us whole tostada chips with a red and a green salsa. The tostada chips seemed like they were baked because they weren't oily at all. The salsas were good, but spicy! My three tacos were good and hot. My partners burrito was delicious. What's there not to love about authentic Mexican food from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant? The interior of the restaurant is truly Mexican inspired. Dark orange walls creating the effect as if they were with actual adobe. The floors are a orange 12x12 clay tile which just adds effect to the decoration. The restaurant itself is actually very simple, but don't let that stop you from coming in. The food is great. The menudo is definitely a crowd favorite along with the chilaquiles rojos. Their tacos are also very good. I can go on and on about their cooking and explain with great detail but that would just take up too much time. Go try it yourself. Although I would recommend los chilaquiles rojos con un huevo frito y un pedazo de carne asada arriba. Martín And Consuelo are very nice people. Always have a smile on their faces and greet all their customers. Their repeat customers always get a warm welcome. It could seem as if they are a little but on the slow side of serving but that's because there is only two of them trying to serve a packed house of about 40+ people. My bf enjoyed his wet burrito with al pastor and red sauce, he tried it with carne asada the next time but did not enjoy it as much. I love their lengua wet burrito with green sauce. The meat is smooth and goes great with the green sauce, a great blend of ingredients The staff is the best also. We wanted to go eat but realized they were closing in ten minutes. We decided to try calling in our order for pick-up. Owner Martin makes the best Chilaquilas! Just make sure you ask for mild if your sensitive to spiciness. Great authentic mexican food from a locally owned buisness. Great prices and parking is easy in the lot. Comes with chips and 2 different types of salsas, green and red. Green is the spicier of the 2 but I found mixing them was tasty. Location was a little tricky...Just be aware that there was a mexican restaurant next door that is closed down...at first I thought it was El Taquito and drove by it. I'm like Horchata on the milkier side vs thinner, but it was still good ($3.50 for the large size). 4.5 stars 2 Lengua tacos ($1.25 each). No fat, all meat... and LOTS of it on the tacos. Really good, but the red salsa is not to my preference. I like tomatillo salsa with my lengua tacos, not salsa that tasted dark and roasted.. but that's just me. This is a great, no nonsense little place that serves very good, homestyle Mexican food. It's by far one of the best options in this neck of town for Mexican fare. I love this place! When my dad came from his homeland to the U.S he tells me he used to eat at this place with a friend of his. Then he would take my mother and then I remember going here with my parents and my brother when we were little and would split a wet burrito in half with my brother because we couldn't finish a whole one.
