My #1 burrito and taco spot of El Monte! They have a taco truck outside their restaurant during the evening time. Not sure if it's just me, but the taco truck is a little better than the restaurant. Their carne asada burrito and tacos have hit the spot each time!!! The carne asada has a slight crisp to it and it's LOADED every time. It is a little oily but I don't mind it. The beans and rice in the burrito is delicious and doesn't overwhelm the overall texture and flavor. Tacos are just *chefs kiss* they don't put everything in the taco, however you can put all the toppings you want from their cart. I loooove their sauces!!! Both the green (the non-creamy) and red sauce is great in flavor and in spice. Green has a more jalapeño / cilantro taste and the red has a tamarind taste to it? Either way, such a great complementary flavor to the burrito and tacos! The service is usually good, every time we've been, everyone has been nice. If you pay in card from the taco truck, you would have to go inside to the restaurant. The restaurant is a little small, so it's not great for large parties, maybe up to 4-5 ppl comfortably in some spaces. When we ate their last, the server provided us chips and red salsa. It's so addicting even though it burns so good. We have tried other things like the brirria and consome, the huarache, and the mulitas. they were decently good, but I prefer their burrito and tacos more. Cute little hole in the wall with decent seating. They also have a taco truck in the parking lot. Great little vibe for tacos n beer. The tripas tacos were some of the best I've had. I have been a regular patron for at least 10 years. I'm so glad that this place is still open! I used to only frequent the food truck outside since it was always a grab and go. I decided to show my tripa-loving friend this place as well. Oh man. Who knew, he not only enjoyed his meal, he LOVED it. He frequents this place without me now sadly. Food I can't speak for most of the menu, but it is so so so hard to find a place that does their tripa like this. The thought of the perfect texture and crunch right now, it probably is going to make me grab some tomorrow. If you are a tripa (intestine) lover, this is your place! Every other place I go to, the tripa is either chewy or super pasty. The cashier even asked if I wanted it extra crispy. Man, it's my only place for tripa. I haven't found anywhere else that compares. Service Cashier was super sweet and made convo with me. She asked me how I found out about this place. It's a pretty lowkey, or at least that I know of. She was glad to hear that I've been coming here for so long. Ambiance Inside seating area is your average dining space, maybe slightly compact for my liking. I came here just to share again that after all these years, the tripas tacos are the best ones I have had in my life. My brother recommended this place to me a while ago. They have a restaurant and a taco truck that opens in the evenings in the same plaza. I prefer the truck. Their lengua tacos are so flavorful and have just the right crisp! I can literally eat the meat by themselves without all the extra ingredients I usually like to add everything to my tacos. I've also ordered their lengua and cabeza tacos too which were tender but not as memorable as their tripas! They also have a bar to get all the toppings and sauces. I've been meaning to write about this place for some time. Not too far from work and easily hidden in a Chinese plaza is a taco place that I've been frequenting for awhile. Their burritos are huge and tacos tasty! Always generous in their proportions with tons of condiments. And prior to the pandemic they had a nice condiment bar to fill those up with your favorite salsa, lemons, and roasted Jalapenos! Of course these days it's takeout only and now you ask for those condiments over the counter. Sign of the times... That being said there has never been a bad taco or a tiny burrito ever. I have eaten only the tacos here. This little taco place is located in a smallish strip mall type situation on Garvey. Parking is tough in the front, but there are parking places in the back that pretty much go unused. It is a clean and simple little place. There is a nice salsa bar off to the left, the salsas that I have tried do not bring on the heat. You order at the counter, then pick up at the same place. The asada is fresh, moist, and seasoned well. Al pastor is unique, there is a crispiness to it but it does not appear to be old. The tacos are made with only tortilla and meat, you make them how you want by adding ingredients from the salsa bar. They are very liberal with the meat, filling the tortillas with the fresh meats. These are good tacos, I would recommend for good food. They make the tortas, burritos, and other Mexican food staples found at taco shops. read more

It's a little hole in the wall, just a couple tables with no public bathroom. Which sucks but I'm only here for the food anyways. They have really amazing pastor tacos, and the asada is good also. I'm back to El Chaparrito, a request from my mom, who happens to love the place. So let's start filling out the blanks from my previous review... Most of the stores within Garvey Plaza are Vietnamese, so having a Mexican restaurant here kinda seems out of place. Parking is a bit tight, but I've never have had a problem finding parking here (though I've not come here on weekends). Restroom in the back of the restaurant for customer usage. The TVs weren't playing today. We pretty much ordered the same as last time, except I substituted my wet burrito ($5.50) for a shrimp burrito ($5). Tacos (fish or shrimp) are about $1.50 each. Both shrimp and fish are battered and fried. Quesadilla is $4.50. Everything's served on simple paper plates, unless you order takeout. There are free refills on the fountain sodas ($1.50): Coke, Diet Coke, Minute Maid Lemonade, Sweetened Raspberry Iced Tea, Orange Fanta. Hazaa! They also serve Rica Horchata and Rica Jamaica for those that enjoy those. Everything seems good here at a cheap price with good portion sizes, and prepared well. read more

This spot is so good to get freshly made gourmet food under 10 bucks it is totally worth it and at night they have a truck outside open. I have had there fish tacos so delicious. There taquitos yum. I know he heard me because he questioned me again about getting onions on it and I said "no onions." When I got home, guess what I found? Yup tacos covered in onions! I was hungry so I decided to try and remove the onions and cilantro but it was just too much. So I went back. I told the guy that took my order that they messed up and gave me onions. He seemed kind of bothered but he said ok. I didn't even get an apology. I went home again and this time I got hard tortillas (and I mean hard) and greasy. It was disgusting. El Chaparrito is an awesome Mexican joint near the corner of Rush and Portrero in Garvey Plaza. I come here for the fish tacos... authentic, fresh, and best of all, battered! This is a MUST try if you're ever here or see the truck on Rush! I had the fish taco plate with rice and beans. Sad to say the rice was kinda old and the beans were just okay. Next time around, I'll just stick with the fish tacos. BUT, the plate (with 3 tacos) was only $5.50... can't beat that price! Yes, finally found a taco place near me that also have a truck for that late night craving for some lengua or cabeza taco. Place was recommended by someone who works at the El Monte Aquatic Center and she was spot on. $1.25 for a freshly prepared taco loaded with whatever you want plus the usual trimmings. Ordered two lengua, two carnitas, one each of the cabeza and asada, all for $8 and change. A family owned & operated taco place- can't get any better than that to get authentic food. BACK in the day way way WAY back when it was just the taco truck out by the mechanic shop (they were new) the tacos were AMAZING. My family and would pick some up every weekend. Fast forward to now. They now have a taco truck that's around the neighborhood and a restaurant. I've been to both. WAIT TIME: Sometimes it sucks. You'l get there and be the only one..then two seconds after putting your order in everyone decides to drop by. Half the time other peoples orders will go out before yours even tho you were there first and ordered before them...the fudge. SERVICE: There's a guy there that always seemed a little drunk the times i've dropped by. One of the ladies is really nice and the other gives you a stink eye. Like seriously i'm sorry i'm inconveniencing you with my patronage??? FOOD: Below average. Meats are ALWAYS DRY. No moisture what so ever. If there's moist succulent meats out there this cook does not know they exist. Wet burrito cant be done in other meats if you want green salsa....BOO. Taquito plate..meat is super dry. Tortas ALWAYS fall apart and meat is dry as well. Their chicken salad is full of DRY ASS chicken. The only saving grace for their food is the salsas. If it wasn't for those salsas their food would be SO freaken plain and lifeless. I was really hoping and crossing my fingers that once they got the restaurant it would only open the doors for even better food but sadly they dropped the ball. King Tacon is way better. read more

I use to come to this place when it was only a truck and the food was great and not so greasy. In my opinion the food.is good but rather greasy in comparison to their food from years ago. The tripas tacos are delicious and usually arent greasy at all. The asada and pastor tacos are pretty nasty cause the tortillas are drenched in oil. The chiles they serve on the side are usually cold and not made on order. The tortas are great here. They also have a decent wait time for the food. The price is that of an average food truck. Will I come again? Perhaps if im out after hours and they are the only ones open. Will I intentionally go there? Never again.
