While looking for a small Mexican food place we ran into this small but cozy place. Came here to break my fast, after 16 hours of fasting I was starving. Ordered huevos rancheros and my son from another mother had a red burrito mojado. Customer service was great. Very nice and friendly personnel. The ladies here make you feel very welcome. I like how the place is small but well kept / and clean. The only thing I didn't like that the chips were a little stale but that's not enough to cost a start. Since 1999 (18 years old) I've been a true customer to this little hole in the wall. My partner at the time introduced me to this place. From my understanding she said the owner grew up in El Monte and attended her high school. El Taquito makes you feel like you're at home ready to eat your daddy's wet burrito. I'm comparing it to my dad simply because NO ONE can top my dad's GREEN sauce NO ONE. The owner honestly made me feel like I was at his house ready for some REAL Mexican food. Wet burrito: has beans, rice, carne asada, cilantro, onions, wrapped into a tortilla de harna, topped with a green chili sauce and jack cheese. The carne asada is fine yet chopped up to melt in your mouth. This is not your typical cheap asada that some restaurants buy to save a buck. NO FAT all meat, MMMMmmm.. The green sauce is delicious I LOVED IT. Not to spicy but just right to give it that kick. I recommend the wet burrito if it's your first time here. As for drinks they have aguas and Jarritos the best of the best. They have cable tv and your welcome to change the channel to SPORTS. ;) FYI...The manager shared that he bought out the barber shop next door so hes going to expand. CONGRATULATIONS to all the hard work. I'm excited to join El Taquito on their reopening day. I will be back with my sisters, friends and the guy cousins to celebrate his accomplishment. The BEST Mexican food in the area. Affordable prices and friendly atmosphere, i left this place with a huge smile. Even though I'm not Mexican, the food just had such a homey feeling. The owner passed the business down to one of her sons and he's kept with the tradition of only having fresh meats and vegetables. The red and green sauces you get with the tostada shells are so delicious. I dont think you can really go wrong wtih any of the items here. I've had the wet burritos, but the item that sticks out the most is the hand made sopes. The masa comes fried hot and crispy. I always get screwed with a soggy or soft masa. Martin and his sister in law run the kitchen. Really nice people who make sure you're happy. The mom shows up every now and then to help out. A true hidden gem in El Monte. Its somewhat difficult to find. There's limited seating so large groups arent a great idea. I'm sure ill be here at least once a week. read more

This place is the bomb!! The environment is warm-feeling, the staff are awesome and sweet. As for the food, it is delicious!!! As soon as you take your first bite, you will know what I'm talking about. Everything is freshly made and perfectly cooked. I've eaten the Wet Burrito with Carnitas (beans and rice included). It is by far the best wet burrito ever! The green chile smothred is super savory. Then they top it off with shreds of white cheese. Every bite is a bite of paradise! Also, while you wait they bring you tortilla shell shaped chips with 2 different types of chiles. ( it's in the photo descrition). Overall, this place really does sell true Mexican Food. This is more like a 3.5 star review. I came here for lunch on whim as I was waiting around for a business client and I got hungry. The place is small but very clean and nicely decorated. There is ample parking at the side of the business and service was good. There wasn't many people so I snagged a table at the back to charge my phone. There were two men in there arguing about baby mama's...that always makes for a fun lunch! lol Instead of chips and salsa they give you tostadas and salsa which earns a star on its own. I ordered two carne asada tacos and two al pastor. They were small in size but they were filling. Here is the reason I didn't score them higher. I can't believe I am about to say this but I finally found a taco I didn't like. Their carne asada was just NOT GOOD. It had this weird aftertaste so I ended up leaving most of it behind. At the other side of the spectrum, their pastor was REALLY GOOD! Maybe I came on an off day? My buddy recommended this spot, since it is close to my office. I take his recommendations seriously, because he has always picked great spots and this was no different. It is a dive and the place is busy, which means the food speaks for itself! The area is a little rough, but maybe I'm a brat, lol. I ordered a pastor burrito with green sauce on top. The chips and salsa to start was great! I love their smooth salsa that doesn't have the tomato taste. I don't like tomato flavor, so the pureed red and green salsas are my fave. I ordered a carne asada taco too, which was more food that I usually eat. I just had to try it, because I wanted to taste 2 diff types of meat. I finished everything! However, the next time was a little different. I ordered the Carne Asada Wet Burrito (Green), and I thought it was good, but my mother in law and wife did not like it at all. My wife had Carne Asada as well, and my Mother In Law had Al Pastor and could only stand a couple of bites before she threw it away. But I thought it was good, especially for the price. It's your classic definition of a mom & pop run restaurant that serves excellent food at good prices, with the service you'd come to expect from a small place like this. I usually get a large bowl of menudo or a wet burrito with green sauce. Both are great, and each time I tell myself to try something different but knowing what is proven usually wins out. My wife has had the enchiladas plate, carne asada torta and wet burrito. All have been excellent according to her and the bits I have tried. This coming from a picky eater means a lot. Also, instead of chips, you get served tostada shells with red and green chili. Something different yet good. It's hard to find a good authentic Mexican restaurant such as this one. It's also good to know that it's been in business for years with the same good quality and service. **Edit** I marked this place as not being good groups. I hate to give a mediocre rating to a nice little mom and pop shop but I thought the food was a little below average. :/ I ordered the chilaquiles and my boyfriend ordered some steak plate and we shared a bowl of menudo. My chilaquiles was bland.. hardly tasted the red sauce but I did like the refried beans. I didn't try my boyfriend's food so I can't be the judge but the menudo was pretty good although it tasted like something was missing. I feel like that missing flavor would have completed the menudo and would have been bomb-tastic. The service was okay. The waitress was a sweetie but she was idle for long period of time before she came back to take our order, check on us, give us the check, etc. It was nice of her to give us our space and time but I think it was a little bit more than necessary. My family have been coming here for sometime now and they never disappoint. Their food is fresh and so tasty, from the chilaquiles, to the meats they use for tacos, to their pozole and menudo and everything in between. It's definitely a hidden gem worth checking out. Greasiest and saltiest menudo and birria I've EVER had. I left the menudo's broth almost untouched. The birria had a thick coat of grease on top so I only ate the meat on a separate plate. Believe it or not, it's been 4 hours since the meal and I can still taste the salt! I know I didn't get leftovers or the last of both because I went in on a Saturday around 12 PM. Only writing this review for the other reviewers that said it's the best menudo they've ever had... freaking liars! Maybe I went in on a bad day? Who knows cause I'll never return. Read the good reviews on Yelp so I decided to give this restaurant a try. Not a good idea!! First of all, the chilaquiles that I order were stale and cold, they had no cheese, and the meat was rushed. We also ordered the Chile verde plate, but it was too salty and ribs were too fatty! The tortillas that came with the plate were rushed as well and were lukewarm! The little restaurant was very busy, but honestly I don't know what all the hype is about! The ladies helping out seemed a bit overwhelmed, because it took them quite awhile for them to bring us the bill and the other patrons behind us had to get up and stand in front of cashier in order to get their bill. This is a great spot if you like authentic Mexican food, if I had anything to complain about it would be that parking is limited, but you can park on the street. The service is outstanding Martin and the rest of the staff really took care of us and made us feel like we were the only customers they had (which was not the case) and the food... well let's just say my taste buds are on top of the world.
