    Taco Pastor and charro beans
    Cire S.

Very clean and roomy, service was pleasant and polite. Waiters have someone behind them either learning or teaching but the orders were correct. We had a group of 10 so it was an automatic 18% added to the tip. Chips, salsa and queso were brought to the table. I asked for some hot salsa and it was green. Tasted like tomatillo and Serrano peppers with no seasoning. $4.50 for salsa, $21.60 for 3 pastor tacos charro beans and sweet tea. Discount for paying with cash 3%.

Some of the servers are a little clueless or too new to run their own tables. The server whose nickname is "T" is the best server in the whole joint meaning that it'll be hard to get her. We ordered the mango ceviche and Guac which were delicious as always.

The margaritas (mine were on the rocks) made to perfection. Finally a place that has "Hot" salsa. Great taste, great amount of heat. Only miss with all of this are the chips. My personal preference is for a thinner chip. Some like the thicker ones and try this place regardless of my chip preferences. I ordered the Steak Fajitas with Corn tortillas. Great portion size. The sides were portioned to complete the meal. I did ask for sour cream since the menu did not say it came with it. Well it did and the waitress did not let me know that and so I got charged for an extra sour cream. Not a big fan of refried beans, however that was what they had. They tasted good and I believe if you are a refried beans type, they would be considered great! The restaurant itself is modern meets industrial vibe. Cozy but not tiny. The staff could be a little more attentive or at least more personable. All in all, I would eat here anytime I am visiting the area and wanting Mexican.

All I can say is WOW! This may be the best restaurant in Ennis. My husband ordered the steak…read moresandwich, and the moment he took the first bite, his eyes lit up. I had the carbonara, and honestly, it was almost too pretty to eat. The service was a little slow, but it actually gave us time to soak in the atmosphere and admire how beautiful the restaurant is inside. The vibe? Absolutely check. The cocktails were not our favorite, but that definitely won't stop us from coming back to try other drinks on the menu. What makes this place even more special is that it's a true mom-and-pop restaurant sourcing food locally. You really can't beat that. Supporting local while getting an amazing meal is always a win.

Pink and honest in the middle, warm and willing, bread holding it all together like a good road holding a long drive. Nothing flashy, nothing trying too hard just flavor that knew where it came from and didn't apologize. The arugula salad came sharp and clean, green with intent, that bitter edge that wakes you up a little and reminds you you're still alive. It wasn't there to impress you. It was there to balance things out, like a deep breath between sentences. I drank Earl Grey tea, steam rising slow, bergamot drifting up like memory, like train smoke somewhere far off. It felt right. The kind of tea you drink when you're not rushing anywhere, when the world can spin without you for a moment and that's okay. Fern in the Wild isn't trying to reinvent eating. It's doing something better. It's paying attention. To ingredients. To pace. To the quiet pleasure of a meal done right. I left feeling fed in more ways than one--like I'd stopped long enough to hear myself think. That's rare. That's worth something. I'll be back.
