The restaurant looks like a lot of other small Mexican food places. The interior is not large but has plenty of tables and a fun Mexican feel. Service was prompt and Heather, our wait person, was friendly and attentive. The beer is cold and always goes well with Mexican food. We started with the chips and salsa. Chips are good but the salsa was bland. There was no heat or kick to it. I love nachos. I have eaten ones I love in Denver and keep trying to find ones I like as much in the DFW Metroplex. When I saw a Yelp picture of the loaded nachos at El Tequilas, I had to try them. The order I received looked just like the picture and I was excited. However, the flavor profile was odd. There is some pepper type flavor or seasoning, I think it was in the meat, that I didn't care for. Was not what I was expecting and I didn't get the "Mexican" flavors that I like. There was no kick or any flavor to get excited about. My husband ordered mini burritos. He said they tasted fine, nothing extraordinary. I must admit the plates are all really pretty to look at. After reading good reviews on the Next Door blog we decided to give it a try. Tex-Mex is one of our favorite cuisines & I have to admit I'm sort of a Tex-Mex snob. First of all, the outside appearance of the place has somewhat of a dive-vibe but once you get inside it transforms into a bright, colorful south of the border decor. The frozen margaritas were delicious & the chips were light, crispy & served with a good salsa. But don't expect them to remain crispy if you take them home for leftovers. We ordered their chile con queso with beef & guacamole and it, also, was quite flavorful. Two of us had variations of beef fajitas & they were so tender you could cut the meat with a fork. And the flavor was out of this world! Their guacamole was standard, but their tortillas were authentic & had a good flavor. We've been several times over the past eight months and, to be honest, we order the same thing every time--because it hits every time: street tacos, rice and beans, chips and salsa. Simple, satisfying, no notes (well... almost). The charro beans are where it's at--definitely recommend subbing those in. The chips, on the other hand, could use some love. They have that store-bought taste, and fresh chips would seriously level up the whole experience. The bar area should be considered too-- maybe about 10 seats. TVs, good energy, and the perfect spot to catch a game with a margarita in hand. It's casual, flavorful Tex-Mex that always delivers. Hard to eat when a group of women can't be quiet. There were a few tables around us and we kept looking at each other because it was over the top rude. We spoke to the waitress and all she did was shrug her shoulders . Also hard to get between tables. How do handicap patrons get it and around. Food was great. The cheese enchiladas were fantastic. The tortilla was perfectly cooked to the correct texture and the cheese was perfectly melted and stretchy. Chips are thin, crisp and warm. Fajitas were tender and a touch but heavy on the salt but very good. Drinks were excellent as well. Not overly syrupy. This place is a great local spot. The furnishings, music and TVs make for a great environment of entertainment. Can't go wrong here for local place. read more

Firstly, our waitress, Alyssa was amazing. She was nice and very attentive. They are offering new menu items since we were here last some of the the times are: pork shanks, Piña al Tequilas, asada de puerco, and they brought back Diablo shrimp! New appetizers as well. We tried the stuffed taters and I was not impressed they looked pretty but the inside ingredients were all mush and not what I was hoping for with the stuffing description it was more like large croquettes. The piño al tequilas was showy and fun. They light it on fire and it is served in half a pineapple as you would expect. I am a fan of this dish and was excited to see it on the menu. The flavor of the piña al tequilas was only okay. Not the best I have had but not bad. The strangest thing tonight was the salsa. They are using a different recipe both their regular salsa and salsa Verde have a lot of black pepper in them. So if you are a black pepper fan, you will love it. read more

Saw a recommendation on Next Door and husband and I were looking to find a new favorite Mexican food restaurant. We moved from Granbury and Garcia's in Tolar was our favorite but a little far now since we live in Benbrook. They had just opened for lunch so 2nd couple people. Greeted and seated, perused the menu but we alway get the taco plate when trying a New Mexican place. Brought salsa and chips. Good flavor and warm. We had the lunch taco plate, 2 gr beef tacos, rice, beans, we ask for charro. Portion was good for a lunch plate. For my tastes it was ok. Rice was dry and not very seasoned, beans were very good but a little spicy to me. Taco shell tasted old as not very crunchy but the meat was seasoned well. Lettuce and tomato was not on taco but on the plate as a side. Both had sweet tea which was really sweet. Ambiance was average for a local place. I came from Houston and decided to try one of the local establishments and I have to say I don't think I will be returning. The queso was clearly what the called queso sauce and watery, the guacamole was packed it bug prices of peppers and the fajita meat was spicy. We ended up sending the queso back we couldn't eat it. There's never anyone eating in this place when I come in and I had one really good meal on a Sunday and every other time it's just been average. I like my food to come to my table hot that means hot beans and hot rice and I don't want my beans to be running off my plate. Not my favorite place. I think that most restaurants have too much to choose from on the menu what they need to do is make the menu smaller and make it really really good and then people will come and you'll have repeat business read more

Happened to come by this place while looking for a lunch spot in the area. Walked into a cozy dining area with country music blasting. It took a while to be seated because they were quite busy and seemingly understaffed. We were taken to a booth and then chips and salsa delivered shortly. The salsa had a smoky flavor which I love. I ordered the liquid marijuana from the bar which was refreshing and tasty. I saw beef guiso on the menu and had to order it because it's one of my fave dishes. The food took a while to come out but we weren't in a rush. When it came out I was bummed to find that I was given beef enchiladas instead. Our server was apologetic and offered to change it but at that point, I was hungry and had to get going. The enchiladas and rice were fine, but the sautéed veggies were delicious. The food here is phenomenal. I especially like the ribs. The service however is sometimes hit and miss. I've had excellent service with very attentive servers and other times where the service felt slow or inattentive. Overall, the food makes it worth coming back, especially the ribs, which are some of the best I've had. If they could improve consistency in service, this place would be near perfect.
