Dining While Black This post has been a longtime coming. I feel compelled to write it before the next important holiday arrives. I want to preface this with I understand holidays are a crazy time for restaurants. Reservations get cancelled, delayed, even missed. I have a background in working in restaurants, I truly get it and am willing to be graceful when the named incidents happen me. Thant being said, attached you will see the reservation confirmation I received from this restaurant. I was sure to make my reservation super early as I was fully aware of what can happen. However, how is it possible for the same incident (backed up, delayed, accidentally cancelled) happen to every single Black potential patron with a reservation? When the Black potential patron approaches the host(ess) to inquire about the delay or to confirm the reservation, they are met with reproach and annoyance and then in the same breath direct a non Black family to walk directly in and find seating. Yes, they could've have a reservation but the issue arises when they are asked they admit to not having a reservation. THIS is what makes a customer pause, evaluate, and decide to leave the establishment because you're telling me you don't want my money and I don't beg anyone to take my money. This happening in Mother's Day was truly disappointing, disgusting, RACIST. I truly warn people, especially Black people to NOT support ANY El Torito since they are practicing racism. Diversity score 1-5: 0. Clearly, from what I explained it shouldn't be a shock to receive this score. Environment: No idea. Unless it's intentionally not meant for us. In that case, keep doing what you're doing. Go again score 1-5: 0 NOPE. Food/Service: 0 NEVER AGAIN. There is no culture or inclusivity w/o Black People!

Ive come here for happy hour a few times now and both times were a similar experience - average. The happy hour deals are too good to pass up, drinks and food are included and have a good amount of options on both. Drinks are made pretty strong too so you're definitely getting a good deal! I had the blackberry margarita and it was delicious! The cleanliness of the restaurant was a 3/5, some tables were empty but still had drinks left, menus weren't very clean, could use a sweep overall but didn't take away from the experience. The food was also a 3/5. I ordered chicken street tacos from the happy hour menu, and they came with purple cabbage on them which wasn't my favorite and just a heads up. The meat was okay, a tiny bit dry but was flavourful. Also got a queso dip which I wouldn't get again, and my friend got the Birria Tacos which she said were a bit on the salty side and not as juicy as hoped but still pretty good. Service is iffy, we were seated pretty quickly but it took maybe 7-10 minutes for someone to finally take our order. We weren't checked on as often as I would have liked, but it was a pretty busy evening tables wise, and I wasn't sure how many servers were on the floor so it could have been short staffed a bit. Note: make sure to ask for separate checks at the beginning, our server noted that to us when we asked at the end of our meal. But still separated them for us Will probably come back again for the drinks during happy hour, we'll see about the food.

Delicious food, efficient and quick service and ample parking. Period. This El Torito doesn't play. Everyone is super friendly. We were seated quickly amd within seconds, our chips and salsa appeared. I don't know what they do to those chips and salsa but they are always good. I try not to ruin my appetite with them but they are borderline addicting. I got the steak nachos and a bowl of Tortilla soup amd sweet cakes. The nachos were large and I couldnt even finish half. Our food came out super easy and it was good. My soup was perfectly seasoned with nice,moost chunks of chicken. The corn sweet cakes are as i remembered. Very good. My companion also ordered the fried ice cream which I tried. It was different, lol. I will come back to this locazion because of the wonderful experience.

El Torito is a chain, I don't know if there are any outside of California. This one is in Hawthorne near a huge mall. It is excellent. Always make a reservation, especially on the weekends or you will be waiting. Parking is easy. They have a full bar, a lot of comfortable seating and they even have Sunday Brunch. We were there, this time for dinner. As always it was great. It is a tad pricey for what you get which is traditional Mexican food. They always have specials, this time they had 35$ per person special called Dine LA. We did not get it, but it is a good deal. The service is excellent. All the staff dresses in Mexican style clothes and it is very cute. They are all super nice and you will be well cared for. We had the table side guacamole and you get a lot. My grandson loves it. For dessert we had their flan which was very good. Our mains were salads and really great combination plates. You will love this place.

Don't be fooled by the steak and chicken being spread out. It was only 4 slices of each! Those was the sizzling fajita combo!

Came for the Sunday Brunch Experience. Pablo was our server and he was fantastic. They had traditional Mexican breakfast options as well as American. The lunch offered tacos, enchiladas, beans rice, and desserts. There were agua fresas and other handmade drink options the price matched the offerings and the server was excellent! read more

Visited this location on a Monday for lunch. The service seemed better at other tables but our server was not good. The food was just ok. The drinks were good . The restaurant is clean. TVs around to wanna sports and movies on TNT. No split checks for two which was odd for is couples. I will not be returning. read more

We came here to celebrate a family birthday and did the brunch buffet -- and honestly, I was super impressed! The brunch is about $40 per person (kids around $13) and totally worth it. They had all the classics: El Torito cheese enchiladas, bacon, sausage, an omelette station, tacos, fresh fruit -- pretty much everything you'd want for a perfect brunch spread, plus mimosas! The service was great, too. The staff was friendly, and the food stations were constantly refreshed, so everything stayed hot and fresh. We had a big group (about 30 people), and they were able to seat us all together with no issues. We brought our own cake, and the team was more than happy to help us celebrate -- they even joined in singing Happy Birthday, which made it feel extra special. All in all, it was a great experience. The food was tasty, the vibe was welcoming, and I'll definitely be back in the future, even just for a casual weekend brunch. Highly recommend! read more

It's been a while since I've been to this location. I have to say I wasn't disappointed on my return back. From walking in I was greeted nicely the lovely hostesses. The ambiance is still had the vintage feel. Once I sat down we were given the chips and salas that we demolished. I ordered the fajitas, it was delicious. The chicken & the steak were well prepared and the shrimp was nice and juicy not dry. The corn cake and the guacamole were fresh. The highlight of the night was our server Julian. You could tell he was all by himself taking care of all the tables. He was so kind, accommodating and very tentative to our requests. He went above and beyond. I was very satisfied with the level service. Had a wonderful time night celebrating my mom's 53rd birthday. They made her margaritas and piñata colada very strong. Overall we had a great time. We were so hungry we forgot to take pictures of the food. read more

The food here is great. It's been awhile since I've been to a restaurant and everything was tasty. I got the carnitas plate, chile Colorado style and the citrus cantarito drink (highly recommend). My husband got the fajitas trio and the el dueno margarita. Aside from the food, the customer service was excellent. Alexandra was really welcoming, attentive, and friendly. Sunday Brunch is great for R&R it's affordable and the environment is relaxed. Not crowded at all is a plus. The Margarita special and unlimited mimosas makes for a great end to the week. We had a wonderful experience! Our waitress, Ubaldina, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. She checked on us throughout the meal, made sure we had everything we needed, and provided outstanding service with a genuine smile. A special shoutout to Esteban at the bar--he made the best margarita I've had at this restaurant! It was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. Yes, I was here today, September 30, 2026 for this Sunday brunch. We've been here a couple of times. The food is generally very good. On this last visit the service was questionable. There doesn't seem to be any urgency on the part of the waitstaff. When they showed up they were polite and accommodating . I'll go back, when I'm in the area, but just expect less. read more

My husband and I hadn't been here in ages, but my father-in-law invited us to brunch today, and we're so glad he did! Everything was amazing from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent, and the whole experience reminded us why this place is so great. A special shout-out to Eduardo, who took wonderful care of us. This afternoon, my brother and I decided to visit El Torito in Hawthorne to try out their margaritas. We sat at the bar and the bartender, Naila took excellent care of us. Naila wasted no time at all making us some of the best, most flavorful blackberry margaritas that we have ever had. As we enjoyed our drinks, I noticed that Naila was always sweet, polite, friendly and attentive to the guests as well as the other servers who she was busy making drinks for. Naila demonstrated her knowledge and expertise of the various types of tequila in her bar. We wound up enjoying shots of Tres Generations Anejo with our margaritas. Naila, though very busy, was always polite, friendly and attentive to the staff and her customers. She made us feel comfortable and welcome and that really impressed us. Naila also told us about other El Torito specials and invited us to come back to enjoy those events also. Our experience t this restaurant was so enjoyable that we are definitely looking forward to returning very soon with family and friends. read more

I am a regular me and my office order at least 1 time a week I place a to go order on Thursday when I arrived as the lady went over the order and show me the sauce I told her that hot wing sauce do not go with nothing I order she said that's what they told her I explain is a jalapeno jelly that should be with the flaunts she went to back and said you're right the I ask if she put the chips and salsa she said ok I will go get them then I get to the office and as I was giving everyone there food the two people who order tortia soup was like for $5.00 not $3.99 no more they said we can get three spoon scoops they ask me how they went up on the price and made the soup smaller and no avocado or cheese in container just cilantro and chips so now the people not happy. so I called asked to speak to a manager no one was there so the chef talk to me we agree he would replace the soups or give a discount I told him I might come the next day because now they didn't want so following day I called gave my name and number I was told everyone would know and it would be posted at front so Lupe look couldn't find it so she put me on the phone with chef Richard I explain to him I wanted to come pick up order but Lupe could not find my name at the front he said it was there now after being on hold and going back and forth my break is over so Chef said the GM will call me Sunday to go over the situation I ask if the can just credit my bill because no one wants to go back to that el toritas no time soon so Sunday 7/22/18 no Gm has called me ...When they have new people training seems like a manager will be there to make sure everything is going ok not just have new people putting orders together I will post the soup it is so small maybe a scoop of ice cream for a kid can go in it and the lady that answer the phone before lupe said she heard and it was packed incorrectly I explain how tiny it was so I want my refund read more

My husband and I took our twin nephew and niece out for their 22nd birthday dinner at El Torito 3/12... We had a great experience there a week prior and wanted to share a special moment with them. Our server Chris was excellent--very attentive, quick with the food and drinks, and gave us space to bond and talk. The food was delicious, and the margaritas were great. Unfortunately, the experience took an uncomfortable turn when the manager, approached our table after we had already been dining about an 1hr and decided to card only my niece. She said it was brought to her attention that our table had not been carded, but if that was the case, it was unclear why she singled out only my niece. Prior to this my niece mentioned they went to school together and knew each other, which now made the interaction even more uncomfortable--you could really feel the tension at the table. The manager also told us the server was in trouble, which felt unprofessional, and we didn't understand... especially since our server was doing a great job and still serving us.... This really changed the vibe. Meanwhile, there was a visibly intoxicated woman at the bar being loud and disruptive in what is supposed to be a family restaurant--something that, in my opinion, should have been the manager's focus. The way the situation was handled created noticeable tension at our table and felt less like a routine policy check and more like a personal interaction directed at my niece. Justin was an excellent server and truly made our experience outstanding from start to finish. He was attentive, friendly, professional, and always made sure we had everything we needed without having to ask. He constantly checked in on us, kept our drinks refilled, and made us feel comfortable and welcomed the entire time. His positive attitude and excellent customer service really stood out and made the dining experience even better. Naila, the host, was also amazing and made us feel welcomed as soon as we walked in. She was kind, professional, and created such a warm and friendly first impression of the restaurant. Adolfo, the food server, was just as wonderful. He brought out the food quickly, made sure everything was correct, and was very attentive and courteous throughout the meal. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS under any circumstance. I have never been disgusted by a restaurant in my life. I'm upset and this place needs to be shut down! I recommend that no one comes eat here. I came to eat yesterday and I asked why they where so short staffed, my server admitted to me that the MAJORITY of their employees are infested with COVID-19 ! That they have forced sick people to still come to work and a lot of their employees have tested positive for Covid. How are they ok with this. We as customers are being exposed to COVID-19 by these selfish companies. People are dying and if I get sick I promise I will not let this slide. I came in with my 80 year old grandmother how is this ok !? No one should be eating at this restaurant and if upper management is ok with that these employees and customers should be suing for this exposure! You people are disgusting and a disgrace to our community ! I will be contacting the health department and I'd like to have a word with HR. I'm beyond disappointed. This Hawthorne El Torito is AWFUL! We had a very bad experience in a special Sunday brunch on March 27, 2022 that we were waiting for 1h outside in a windy day and 30 mn inside waiting for a waiter to bring us the menu. They separated our group in 2 tables in South corner and North corner with NO menu and NO service. We were so hungry that my friends had to bring their kids to grab the food. We had to eat with FINGERS , waitresses and waiters walking around with their bottles of Champagne serving several tables except us. We were so mad that we had to complaint some young waitresses came to tell us that they don't have any more champagne however I saw they served several tables 6 times Champagne and some tables they put the bottle of Champagne that I should record it after 45 mn a nice waitress came over to give us some plastic forks and knives and Champagne too late. However the total bill for 3 Children and 4 Adults was $204.00 for A TERRIBLE SERVICE AND FOOD that we are not coming back anymore. We eat out day/night every day in the Restaurants and NO MORE EL TORITO. read more

I don't care what any of the negative comments say about this place. I was there Monday night with a friend and the lady at the front was AMAZING. I had arrived early n the hostess greeted me with a smile once I walked in. Ended up talking for a while since my friend was late n every person that came in that door was greeted the same way. Even when customers were leaving they would acknowledge her great service. Unfortunately I forgot to get her name. I just remember that she was wearing all black n a red scarf around her neck. But her service I will definitely remember. When my friend finally arrived she showed us our seats n her n the other workers were constantly asking if everything was good n if we needed anything. PERFECT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Food was great n exactly what I ordered. Thanks for the great service. Will definitely be coming back. Even if I go alone. Edwardo is the BEST! Amazing service and incredible food. I recently dined at El Torito in Hawthorne and had an absolutely fantastic experience, largely thanks to our server, Edwardo. This man deserves a raise! He was attentive, friendly, and made sure our table had everything we needed without being overbearing. He had great recommendations and a wonderful attitude that really made the meal special. Now, for the food--we went all out and tried a bunch of things. We started with the birria tacos, which were perfectly crispy on the outside, dripping with cheese, and the consommé for dipping was rich and flavorful. The street tacos were classic and fresh, just the way they should be. For the mains, we got both the chicken fajitas and the chicken and shrimp fajitas. They arrived at the table sizzling and smelling incredible. The portions were huge, the chicken was tender, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. On Thursday my family went here for dinner . Our server Carlos G. came and introduced himself and took our drink orders . He returned with our drinks and placed to go cup tops on my little sister and my little cousin cups . What he didn't know was they both have autism . He was extremely kind bringing us things we requested to make sure they're comfortable. (My sister prefer a spoon over a fork ) he brought us or bill and asked how everything was , we thanked him and explain that our babies have autism and thanked him for being kind , patient and understanding. He shared he could relate due to his own family member having autism and that they deserve to be treated with respect like anyone else . It was a pleasure having him as our server , as well as him being understanding. We've been to several places where we were treated unkind due to them having meltdowns . The food is usually solid the queso fundido and carne asada are favorites, and the drinks, especially the margaritas, tend to hit the mark. The atmosphere is festive and family-friendly, and I've had a few visits where the staff was attentive and welcoming, particularly servers like Julian and Eduardo who really went above and beyond. That said, the inconsistency in service makes it hard to fully recommend. I've also had visits where the host stand was unattended, we waited way too long to be seated, and certain staff seemed overwhelmed or indifferent. There have been issues with order accuracy and problems redeeming loyalty points, which is frustrating for regulars. Managing a table that size is no small feat, but Ubaidina handled it with incredible grace and organization -- not a single order went wrong! What truly set her apart was her warm, personable attitude. She had smiles and patience for everyone, from the little kids to the grandparents, making each person feel genuinely welcomed. When we came into the restaurant we were greeted by a professional young lady who let us choose where we wanted to sit ( since she saw we would be studying). We were then greeted by our server Jose Duarte immediately. He was very attentive and even though we chose to sit in the back he never forgot about us. You can tell the people here work very hard to give you a great experience. She made sure our drinks stayed full, checked on us regularly without being intrusive, and had a great attitude the entire time. The food was delicious, but Alexandra's outstanding customer service really made the visit memorable. I came in on a Tuesday evening and they had a dj which I didn't know and it was a great vibe and we had great happy hour drinks that weren't too sweet . We had a great waitress her name was Alex is what she introduced herself as was very polite and was very efficient for how busy she was. They were very busy but everything came out on great timing . They also had a little station of tacos that had other stuff on there too and I had two steak tacos and was able to garnish lots of things to it . I visited this El Torito location on Sunday Dec 10 2023 with my partner the place has since been remodeled very nice color the ambiance was perfect had good music playing we were sat right away within seconds we were greeted by our waiter Brayan which was very professional polite and very attentive. We have been too many restaurants before and I can say Brayan's Service was phenomenal we had never received such great service before! This place is really lucky to have such a nice humble person working here now anytime we come back to this location we will be asking for Brayan's service everytime thank you for making us feel at home!
