Aaaaye...stopped by since we haven't eaten at an El Torito in a loooong time. Maybe it's the location, maybe the timing. It looked like they did some re-branding with an updated logo and colors. Restaurant appeared to have been remodeled too. The parking is tight but we found a spot. We caught HH and ordered the $4 Queso Dip and $6 Call Drinks, which was the highlight of my visit. We ordered the Carne asada and cheese enchilada dinner which was decent and the Chef's Special Albondigas soup. The soup could've (should've) been much better, especially if it is advertised as their Chef's Special!! My husband said it was bland and it didn't look anything like the menu photo that I posted. The service was very slow, first, the waiter initially forgot to bring us the spicier salsa but he eventually remembered, (yay) second, we asked 3 separate wait staff for a to-go container for the queso dip which doesn't "fit" well in a regular styrofoam box but never got it. We waited but eventually left after pouring it into a box and hoping for the best. Overall, I can't say that I will be back anytime soon since there are so many other places to eat but give it a try and maybe you'll have a different experience. read more

Ehhh.. this place is just ok. Went for dinner last night, yes it was Dec 25th, yes they were busy, yes there was a long ass wait...so we sat in bar with open seating. Took 15 mins to get the waiter to take our order, our food arrived 45 mins later. The food was ok. My son's food was not that hot and the fajitas looked like a child portion when he ordered the $26 portion. The waiter was not friendly and did not really seem to give us much attention. The Sherman Oaks location is much better. Don't waste your time at this location. read more

This place is a f*king gross. I've be going to el torito since this location opened. The food back in the day was much better, and tasted a whole lot better too. My lady and I went there last night (even though we keep saying we're never going back) the mall was too busy and there weren't really any other options. I ordered the birria tacos. And boy what a mistake that was. They came out, onions on top of the tacos (onions go inside not on top). The tortillas were too soggy to pick up so I had to use a fork, the plate was almost a pool for sauce, and then they put this type of plant on the plate? I looked at my girlfriend and said where did they get the plant? From outside? I couldn't even manage to finish my last taco, I left hungry, and the rice was complete ass. Now she got flautas, with quesadillas and chicken. The chicken was absolutely disgusting, drenched in sauce, she took one bite and didn't even finish it. This is a sorry ass excuse of a Mexican food place. And for 57 dollars? Totally diabolical. Table next to us also complained about their food being too cold, disgusting. We love Mexican food, and honestly I'll even take the time say, if you like Mexican food go to Las Rocas in castaic, 50x better food, margaritas and everything else, and worth the drive. I live and was raised in Northridge, and I will make the trek regardless of how far it is just to eat their food. ( we used to go almost twice a week) This is the last time we're going to El torito, we're done with it. And I wouldn't be surprised if it closed down or went bankrupt in the next 10-15 years. F*cking gross. If there was an option to give this place -100 stars, well that's exactly what I would rate it is. read more

Visited the Northridge location for Sunday brunch, by far is the best brunch I had. Everything from omelettes station, to the tacos station was always fresh. The girls in the front as I walked in they greeted me with a please smile and great attitude. They let me know the food options and a few items in the brunch variety. They walked me to my table and I was helped by Sherrie she was delightful to talk to had a great personality very helpful brought some pancakes and refill my mimosas. Came for a quick bite to eat. Honestly, we were in a little bit of hurry. We came at a relatively busy time and I thought we were going to have to wait awhile but they sat us within 5 minutes and our server was there right away. They took our order and our food was out in about 15 minutes. Diana, our server, came to check on us multiple times even though she was busy and had other tables to attend to. Overall, we were very happy with our service. We love El Torito but this was our first time at this location. food was dry, undercooked and more. The chicken tenders were slimy inside and rockhard. I got chicken tacos and they gave me beans but they were watered down. You will see in the picture. My family member got a bean and cheese burrito. There was rice and beans inside and the cheese ones on top of the burrito. Horrible service definitely not recommended. Came into el Torito this evening and my servers name is Maria. Had a wet burrito de asada. She was really attentive, had such good service as well as the food quality. She had my drink and chips/sauce always ready before I could even ask she already had it. Overall good experience. I'd definitely go back!!! read more

By far the worst food I have ever had!!! Everything came out dry, overcooked, and tasteless. Absolutely terrible! It took a long time to get our food, although the place had only a few tables. Our plates probably sat under the hot light for a while, which is what made them dry. I'm very confused by this food, it had NO TASTE. read more

We came for lunch today - I love the food but the service is horrible! Our waiter was Roberto, for a server, he is not a polished person - very rough, not polite and terrible service all together. Happy Hour Review Menu is limited but very Mexican. Sopes, street corn, mini tacos and plenty of drinks to pick from. The taco bar seems to be very popular today. 3 Large tacos with two sides as a happy hour entree. Bar has plenty of seats and offer tall or average tables, booths, large group areas and outside seating. I really liked the service, prompt, friendly and didn't forget us. Chips and salsa are very good. Not spicy not even a little a bit. read more

My girlfriend and I ate here this evening. We waited an extremely long time for them to take our order. I asked for water with lemon and the bartender literally brought me lemons with his bare hands! We came here at about 5pm on a Saturday at the last minute with about 21 people and I have to say our waitress, Sherie, not only gave us great and fast service but made the experience an amazing one! El Torito I am very conflicted about this review for a few reasons. So let me start with the appearance. It has been a while since I walked through the doors of this El Torito. It looks amazing, most definitely an upgrade. As for their food, here is where some of my conflict enters in. My food was good, it had a great flavor. I ordered the macho combo and luckily for me our waiter messed up on my order. I asked for black beans but it came out with pinto beans. Since our server Evaristo was elusive (aka, not attentive), I decided just to eat them rather than complain and wait. I know you're wondering why I said luckily my order was wrong. My wife ordered the Sizzling Chicken Enchiladas. Her dinner came with a side of pinto beans de la olla, which she replaced with black beans. I tasted her enchiladas and her black beans (which were not de la olla). I am not sure that any salt came near those beans or her enchiladas. There was a consistency to the lack of flavor within the layers of her food. The chicken inside wasn't seasoned, the sauce didn't have a definitive flavor, and those were the blandest black beans I have ever tasted. Essentially, her entree was very disappointing. My wife took the time to join the rewards program for the free table side guacamole. It took a while once we ordered it for it to arrive. The table side guacamole is meant to be a show, a production. However the result was anything but. Our server was distracted and we became convinced that's how we ended up with guacamole without the flavor of lime or salt. My mother-in-law ordered a strawberry lemonade. Our waiter brought her a regular lemonade before she reminded him that it was supposed to be strawberry. He brought her the correct one immediately. All in all, I think our server needs to work more closely with the support staff so that when and if he is busy, his service doesn't suffer. read more

After almost 20 years to day day, just felt like coming here for old times 80s sakes with family. Hard to believe still open. The decor, action and generally hip area has shifted to the right side where the bar is (surprise). In a nutshell, it will be another 20 years before I come back. Got seated in about 25 minutes on a Friday night; the left side looks depressing and ghost-like, with an abandoned kitchen where they used to cook and serve food. We were seated behind the big black bulls ass in a booth that was filthy from rice bits and grease sandwiched in between the couches, yuck. Standard chips and salsa came, chips nothing to write home about and oversalted. The salsa, fantastico. Ordered a big sampler platter for son, he enjoyed and couldnt finish. Tried few things was ok, but mostly del taco vibes. Me and wife split the sizzling combo, which has shrimp chicken and a steak taco (ice cold). Shrimp was good and not farmed, but smothered in waaay too much onions (as usual) and barely and chicken on dish. Small portion and meh besides the shrimp. didnt expect the flavors portions and quality of 80s (where the F is there these days anything close) but regretted calorie-bombing for chips and tortillas to get full. The food was over all fine, but the options were horrible. For some reason, on the kids menu, once you pick a entree you can choose a side, that's not the bad part, the bad part was how the rice and beans were not one single option. You could either pick rice or beans and a bunch of other options. Also, for the combo, you could not pick carnitas as your meat for the tacos. Horrible and would never come back. read more

I had written this place off but I've come a few times and it's changed my mind. I got some enchiladas which were good, nothing to write home about but still good. I've gotten the vampiro tacos in the past which were delicious. The drinks were great- I got one of the drinks you're only allowed one of (which made total sense after I finished it). Also everyone who works there is so sweet. Catalina was the best, made us laugh the entire time. Gave my name and number, wasn't told a wait time. After 15 min they gave the next person a 30 min wait time, they left. 3 hostesses but only 2 waiters? Whats going on here? There's plenty of people to give out long waits but no one to wait on the customers? Bump those wages up and hire some extra staff for Sundays, 3 parties walked out at the same time we did and the place is half full. Sunday at noon ok I get it..., going to wait ... but 3:30pm??? This location is somewhere between a 3 and a 4 star but, because our waiter was so attentive, the entire place gets a 4 from me. Depending on when you go and how busy it is, food timing, quality, temperature and taste will vary. We had a larger party (12) so our server was busy. We also had a couple of birthday celebrations in our group and he said to them beautifully. But, on the food side, it took a while. Luckily, we could see how busy the place was and ordered a few appetizers. Good thing because two large nacho plates were almost completely gone before our entrees started to arrive. Seems like they might be short staffed in the kitchen and in the server area as the folks in the dining area were working their butts off. Our food quality was mixed, some good, some okay, some, well, not as good. But, if you want authentic Mexican food, most go to their local, small Mom & Pop restaurant. If you want a big place with full drink options, El Torito fits the bill for many. When we were there, the parking lot was under construction so parking was tight. Had family in from Arkansas. Our party size was 13 including two young kids and an infant. Sherie was our waitress and I can't say enough good things about her. She was incredibly attentive to everyone's needs, making sure everybody's food was good and the way they wanted it. She made fresh guacamole for the table in front of us and stayed on top of everything with a smile always on her face. She even suggested and brought a different style enchilada for someone in our group in an effort to make his meal perfect. We always come to el torito (Northridge) and the past few times we have been very happy with their food, drinks and service. But I want to talk about tonight's visit..... I came in with my husband and 3 kids (1,4,6) my sister in law and great grandma. My baby was playing with my keys and when it was time to leave WE COULNT FIND THEM. We searched every where and the first amazing act of kindness came from our waiter Denise she offered to let me borrow her car to go get spares from my home I said thank you but we would have my father go get keys and drop them off for us. When walking out I told the 2 men in the counter if they could take my number down just in case they find them. I told them we search every where and I had a feeling they went on a plate when they were picked up. The general manager Joseph started pulling up his sleeves and said "I'll go check the trash". Sometimes people say things to say them, but when they act on what they say, they show their true character and when I saw him walking out with my keys I totally felt like he acted out of his heart and the *real want *to try to help. I appreciate their hearts and how both Denise and Joseph when out of their way to be human and kind to me and my family. Happy holidays and I wish them the best ....
